oh they don't have it together, decisive battles have a little transition that plays for like 25 seconds that plays an arrangement of one of the character themes, ex. if you're playing cyrus's chapter and you get to a boss fight in his chapter it plays an arrangement of his theme 5hat transitions into the decisive battle theme
I feel like Dan really needs the context just how crazy the writing for those small character interludes is. Literally every part of it smoothly transitions into ALL of the various boss themes. It's so impressive.
The transitions are always amazing, and my favorite is easily the one in Octopath 2 that happens halfway through the final boss. Largely because of how much detail there is between the transition and the song itself It's insane how much detail is given just from the names alone, but also the songs themselves
1:53:16 I hear this kind of "breathing" / echoing percussion quite a lot in JRPGs (Octopath and Xenoblade have it) and I have quite no idea what it could be Is it some special instrument or just some kind of percussion with a lot of reverb added on? I would like to use something like that
It's just a hollow wood block thing I think? It kinda sounds like what they use for horse clopping sfx in orchestra or theater but with a big echo filter over it
Man we're two videos in and there have only been TWO of the combat themes so far. You're in for such a treat on the later ones. One thing you notice while playing the game, but not so easy to spot just listening to the OST like this: the "For ____" songs you'll hear later, themed to each of the 8 party members, are the same tempo as the boss music, and are programmed to cue smoothly into each other when the player ends the cutscene and starts the fight. Brilliant compositional technique that I haven't seen anywhere else. I edited a compilation of them all "portmanteau'd" together that I listen to sometimes on my own time, but I could upload it if you want to hear them how they were meant to play together and blend smoothly like they do in-game.
I am completely beyond words why somehow this man has not reacted to the FF16 soundtrack. He used to react to the best of the best and I was a regular viewer, but it's been a long time.

Like a snipped from 8bit music theory when he plays them with the example @@griever4519
IMO, it works better if there's a separate video about it, like he did with one ost from Undertale

I've been using Melancholy and Determination as my alarms for years already.
2:10:15 never seen Dan this excited! Hell yeah!
Wow you weren’t kidding lol, never seen his mouth open that wide before!
Fantastic! I’d love to see you react to Break: A Settlement in the Red Bluffs too. One of my favourite of the arrangements
Tension beating Decisive Battle 1 is totally fine
oh i can HEAR the sound effects even now
you looked for octopath traveler olberic decisive battle 2 aren't you?
Like you need to ask.
i was actually looking for saintsbridge :/ but now i am, yes
1:44:28 Atlus did the Persona Series. They’ve done other stuff too, but I think that’s all they’ve done that you’ve reacted to.
Oisin in the live chat making it difficult to appreciate the soundtrack.
He's the "hot take" guy after all 😅
The wait for Battle 2 (one of my favourite video game tracks ever) continues 🥲❤️🩹
And octopath traveler 2 just on a different level

Octopath, Xenoblade, 2010's Ys and Trails, and maybe there are others.
@@fen6300 Yeah Ys and Trails as well, a lot of JRPGs
just want to let you know there is a new risk of rain 2 dlc and the ost is banging hoping you would check it out

Primrose>>>>>>>>Ophilia>>>>Huge Abyss>>tressa
Tressa's story may not be as deep as theirs but it's just as fun
Unless we are doing girl rating, in which case tressa has too much daughter energy to not be best girl in a platonic way
Try God of War Ragnarok OST. That will really blow your mind.
not even close to Octopath Ttraveler ost.
@@LexRev lol! You haven’t listened to it then
