I took possession on my dad's craftsman tool chest last year and two months ago some of the drawers locked up. I've been tugging on them for weeks. A minute after seeing your video and now they are open. The locking bottom door front was the trigger to move the locking bar. Thanks so much for taking the time to post your video.

Solved my problem! The swing door at the bottom just needed to be pushed back all the way, and it lifted the locking bar with the tabs. One drawer had been locked shut. So, with the swing door at the bottom pushed back all the way (with five slide drawers above), I pulled all five drawers out an inch or so, so that they were clear of the locking tabs. Then, I pulled the swing drawer forward a few inches, and heard the locking bar with the tabs fall to its "locked" position. Now I can open and close all the drawers without them locking each time. If any get locked again, I will remember to push the swing door all the way back to lift that locking bar again! Yay! Thank you!

Was wondering how these old boxes locked up since I noticed that the key lock were on the bottom of the box. Now I understand how the locking mechanism works. Many thanks👍
fantastic video bud, i was given one of these for free and everything opened fine, drug it across the floor of my garage (bc it too is missing its wheels) and the damn thing latched and wouldnt open.... was driving me crazy... thanks for the help!
I have a toolbox like that. The bottom section has a door that's hinged on the top. In order to unlock the drawers you have to lift open the door and slide it all the way in. That releases the locking mechanism. Mine has the opposite problem where it stays unlocked.
Ok... Hope it works out..... I didn't realize before I made the video... The drawers locked even though the lock and looked like a few other things were missing ......
I have a problem with my newer Craftsman tool box's bottom drawer, it is stuck as well. I got it over 5 years ago, and now the bottom drawer won't open.
I'm no expert on these tool box's... I would take out a few drawer's out of the top and see if something is stuck in the track... Or like what happened in my video.... Good luck
Hey Dan, I have my dad's old Craftsman toolbox with the same drawer glides I see in your video. I had to remove a drawer because a hammer in the drawer below was keeping me from fully closing the drawer I removed. How did you get those clips back on?

Three years later it still works, just opened up my old craftsman box top drawer sticky got it to work thank you

It's a locking mechanism for the bottom door. When the door is closed it locks the drawers.

How simple it was.
The 52 inch box has a reinforced bottom plate where the castors bolt into. So its like a double sheet looks good to go.

This also works with large Pro cabinet boxes, except the top lid unlocks the box when it is lifted. 🧐
