I used welding to get into computer aided design, right now working under an engineer basically drafting, I love welding but it’s on its way out and the layoffs come out of nowhere. They will never completely get rid of fabricators stuff always breaks and need to be repaired or refabbed but its on its way out.

Sorry but this is Medium fab work.
I worked in one of the biggest fab shops In Detroit.
Some of the bases that I had to preweld was around 20 tons and had to flip them over without pulling the bridge crane out of the ceiling.
20 ton bases. What type of project were you guys building?
i worked as a fabricator for 40 years and just retired , god i hated this job but it paid the bills
now i,m walking my dogs and chilling

Only saw two safety infractions , two men operating grinders without guards on . Injury's could add considerable cost to production . The shop is very impressive other wise.
Blackdogcamper every shop I’ve ever worked in...the guys take the guards off the minute they open the box. If your wearing your PPG, there won’t be a problem.
@@timvandenbrink4461 that's been my experience as well. The minute the new Metabo comes out of the box the guard goes in the garbage

Crane he said was 30 ton capacity but clearly showed 10 ton, and no hard hats
Couldn't even be bothered to take his hands out of his pockets 🙄
You can tell he doesn't spend much time in the shop, more in the office type of guy
