The original Art Deco type signs & buildings were amazing! This park had rows of shade trees and even a huge building enclosed carousel. No place around like this today!
I remember riding that yellow roller coaster one last time on one of the last days they were open. While on it I remember thinking to myself: this cant be it is it? I was in disbelief when it actually did close. Still am til this day. The entertainment world sucks today. All Hollywood and big bank ran bullshit.
Miss this place a lot. It closed not long after my 15th birthday back in '89. Spend my entire childhood there & practically went every weekend with my dad, brother, and sometimes with friends. Hell, if i ever won the mega lottery, id open another place just like it.
Wow ! Great before and after video of that historic park . I wonder how many condos there have a picture of the Lake Shore Legend ( Comet ) in there rooms .
I loved this place. We would take the ferry from Buffalo and the second we got off the boat I booked to Super Duper Mountain lol. Going backwards on the comet, the taffy, the loganberry….it was the best.
In the 1960's my parents would drive us here from North Tonawanda. The Comet stands out as a grear memory. I traveled back to the area around 2000 and stopped out in front of a home. A woman came out and said Crystal Beach Park had closed down but I could go in town and buy a postcard of remembrance. I headed back to the border back into the USA.
Steve! How the hell did you get such great footage. OMG. So many memories. I grew up in Port Colborne. I will always remember the excitement as we turned onto the road leading in. My parents would hand us a wad of tickets and send me and my sibs on our way while they ate and drank at the picnic tables. Such great days.
Too bad crystal beach couldn't relive this era and recreate another world class amusement park. I bet you ppl would flock back just to relive there childhood memories and also as a way to bring back entertainment to this town
It's so sad that they couldn't figure out a way to keep it open. Must be the big banks & corporations that ran it outta there just to build profitable housing, condos, etc. I haven't been there in years though. I'm just guessing that's what's there now.
@@deepstate1015 Too old , too many wood structures , too many more modern amusement parks to compete with and too far off the beaten path to attract Toronto money .
@@Jay-vr9ir Too old? There’s hundreds of current amusement parks out there just as old. The closest amusement park to compete with is Darien Lake and Darien Lake might be the one of the most mismanaged parks in the the country. The Golden Horseshoe of Southern Ontario along with Buffalo could have absolutely supported a small-mid sized park like Crystal Beach.
It didn't , the biggest mistake Crystal Beach made to save money , was to take out too many rides .They charged a general admission which is fine , but to take at out the rides and replace the rides with games , felt like a rip off.@@eaanyills
I had old pictures with a camera 📸📸 i took when iy was closed and one of them was an old log water car let i wanted to take it but we didn't have a truvk snd we ere too F****ked up Plus i didn't in want to to go to jail in Canada 👀👀👀😜😜😜

Steve, another great video. Brings back so many happy memories but also makes me sad because that was the official end of my childhood.
