TimmytheToonLover There was an episode in KND called REPORT, where Number 5's segment was based on that...! You don't think that any of the developer were on that short?
I love The Offbeats so much and they’re on a list one of my top 10 favorite KaBlam! shorts along with some other KaBlam! shorts like Prometheus and Bob, Action League Now!, Life With Loopy, Sniz & Fondue and all the Henry & June segments.
Before SpongeBob's "Your Shoe's Untied," we had the Off-Beats do it! Looks great in HD too, compared to the 1990s Rugrats "Tommy Troubles" VHS that was recorded in EP/SLP, resulting in a noticeably low quality.
I remember having that tape! Along with Chuckie the Brave, Tales From the Crib, The Santa Experience, Dr. Tommy Pickles, A Rugrats Vacation, Discover America, The Rugrats Movie, and Rugrats in Paris.
The closed-captioning would mistakingly say it as "They never stay, never stay small," as if Mo Willems was trying to imitate a vinyl record skipping, due to the "retro" feel of these shorts. The captioning also would always get Grubby Groo's last name wrong, spelling it as "Grew," "Gru," even "Dude!"
Gosh this brings me back! I mostly forgot about this! It wasn't really a series, it was just.....a little segment between commercials. I remember the one who always ended up yelling something. Didn't remember any of the names though. But I remember bits and pieces!
Also, that girl in the beginning said "The Misfits" which is what The Off-Beats were originally named. Wonder if the original opening is available somewhere.
The Off-Beats were great. That'll be the next generation of the brand new Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse anime on Nickelodeon in 2020, A'ight, my friends?
I would watch these shorts on Rugrats tapes. Maybe they were a bumper in between shows on TV? Anyway, it's great seeing them on UA-cam in better quality!
Yes, Betty Anne was supposed to be a beatnik, same with Grubby Groo. Though at times, Betty Anne kind of reminds me of a modern-day hipster, with her horn-rimmed eyeglasses, and how she just untied her shoes for the heck of it.
Not this short, but later Off-Beats shorts. These were on Nickelodeon's SNICK block in early '96, then they were later shown on the first (new) Paramount Rugrats VHS Release, "Tommy Troubles".
Tommy was not there for The Populars' bullshit. 😂😂😂
BeaMode1990 😂
I love, he yell so loud, even himself gets affected by it.
1:19 😂😂😂😂😂
LAY OFF MY SHOES!!!
but...THIS IS SPARTAAAAAA!!
Haha! Good one, Tommy!
"I don't wear shoes. I'm a dog."
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
@@readysetactioncommentaries, I remember this cartoon. They used to play this on Nickelodeon multiple times back in the day.
That’s goes for my dog Lyric
Tina: Tommy, your shoe's untied.
Tommy: Let me say...LAY OFF MY SHOES!!!
Billy: This joke isn't working out at all.
Tina: GRRRRRR!
Billy: (literally gets thrown outta the popular kids) AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! (crash)
@@retroflashbackdude Tina: Lets find Rapunzel she'll fall for it.
Memory unlocked! I forgot this existed!
Oh man I LOVED this back when I was in 3rd grade. I remember they were shown a lot around 1997/98. I haven't seen a lot of these shorts since then!!!
I still think The Populars look like The Delightful Children from Down the Lane. Minus the simultaneous speaking, that is.
I was hoping someone else thought this.
TimmytheToonLover There was an episode in KND called REPORT, where Number 5's segment was based on that...!
You don't think that any of the developer were on that short?
Fernie Fernandez Mo Willems.
They really do don't they!
Fernie Fernandez
Is that what that was?
Awesome memories! Tommy didn't put up wth the Popular kids bullshit at all! Go Tommy!! lol
SunflowerCutieDollz Yay Tommy!
0:57 classic trolling
I don't wear shoe.
I'm a dog. 😂😂😂

Yup!!!
The low quality added to the charm!
I never realized that this was inspired by the beatniks/50's jazz era as a little kid.
Groo was
I wanna see some Action League Now episodes or something like that next after this.
Nickelodeon, back when it was dope.
I was totally randomly thinking about this the other day!!
You and me both
Max A. Mixed with the animation of sheep in the big city
Right
Lol i always liked tommy he shouts when he has a response 😂.
I didn't even remember this existed! Whoaaa!
Johanna Caba It was on Rugrats video Tommy Troubles
I remember having that tape! Along with Chuckie the Brave, Tales From the Crib, The Santa Experience, Dr. Tommy Pickles, A Rugrats Vacation, Discover America, The Rugrats Movie, and Rugrats in Paris.
Wickedfan219 Actually I do have those videos myself
Same man. It's been so long that when I came across it my mind was blown.
Never realized the intro says they nervous, they nebbish, they small. Spent an entire childhood trying to figure that out.
Thought he said "They never stay, never stay small." But you may be right.
I caught "nebbish" as a kid, but I had no idea what it meant. I still didn't, until about 20 seconds ago when I looked it up on Urban Dictionary.

I thought he said that too! After nearly 20 years I now know!
It's like Nickelodeon's version of the Peanuts Gang
And it's also ironic, given how in the late 90s they were airing both "The Off-Beats" AND the real Peanuts cartoons!
Someone's GOT to Teach those Populars' to STOP being Bad Kids!😠
Gosh this brings me back! I mostly forgot about this! It wasn't really a series, it was just.....a little segment between commercials. I remember the one who always ended up yelling something. Didn't remember any of the names though. But I remember bits and pieces!
0:37- Run away!
My god so many things I've forgotten about all these shorts!! So great to see them all again!!
Loved how the Off Beats handled them
if only kids today were more clever to fend off their bullies as these kids.
spyro115 Agreed
What?
Ikr
Same creator as Sheep in the Big City! I thought the animation looked familiar.
Mo Willems. He also created Suzie Kabloozie and Feff the cat
Oh my gosh I remember this??? I didn't even remember that I remembered this o_o
Tommy straight savage the popular, dang😎👏😵
The Populars pissed me off
Ikr!!!
Me too
Lmao I totally forgot about how they used to always dropkick that one kid.
1:20 never mess with Tommy’s shoes
*L A Y O F F M Y S H O E S*
Rotten Raspberry Haha!
I loved the jazz music in the background
I like how the background looks like stamps designed to look like pennies.
I remember watching this on my rugrats tape
Wasn’t this on KaBlam? Cuz the only thing I remember is tommy the kid that yelled. Tommy’s yelling used to scare me
Yes.
They don't make shows like this anymore. Sad but true.
Also, that girl in the beginning said "The Misfits" which is what The Off-Beats were originally named. Wonder if the original opening is available somewhere.
I was thinking the same thing myself, hmmm it's kind of a Mandela Effect in a way.
1:29 every time they do that it cracks me up. Hahaha😂😂😂
1:18 Tommy Yelling & 1:29 Billy Getting Thrown Out
Goodness, I forgot all about this.
Aw memories. Thanks for the great quality of these.
WARNING: BACK OFFA TOMMY! HE WEARIN THE J'S TODAY!
The art style is done by the same guy who made the Suzy Kabloozy shorts from Sesame Street!
Yep. Mo Willems also created the Cartoon Network show "Sheep in the Big City." I love his art style.
wait, THIS ACTUALLY EXISTED? i thought i dreamt it up one day
Childhood memories
Not very nice teasing rapunzel The Populars are bullies but I love this song
I always assumed the intro was saying “they never stay, never stay small.” Turns out he’s saying “They nervous, they nebbish, they small.”
Gabriel Schleifer I thought it was they notice they never stay small
Are those the same people who made the Susie Kabloozie segments for Sesame Street?
Yes. Mo Willems, who also made Sheep in the Big City and Codename: Kids Next Door.
@@YuukiTakemoto1996 Technically, Warburton created KND but Willems had a major role in the art direction
some of The Offbeats shorts were also from the show KaBlam!.
The whole show was on KaBlam
They nervous
They nebbish
They small
Growing up 90s I loved it when this came on
I haven't seen or thought of this in 20 years until this came across my feed.
I... remember this... But no recollection of when I saw it. Damn, time flies.
You know when you haven't seen something for years and then when you see it all the memories just come back right away. .
I feel like I've seen this animator on Sesame Street..
Please post a full episode of The Off Beats Valentines Special next year for Valentine's Day
1:19😂😂😂😂😂
"Your shoes are untied."
Me:
"I DON'T WEAR SHOES. I'M A FLORIDIAN."
Peanuts + Sheep in the big city = The Offbeats
But how'd they get so popular if they're so damn mean to everybody??😩
The Off-Beats were great.
That'll be the next generation of the brand new Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse anime on Nickelodeon in 2020, A'ight, my friends?
Damn, Dilbert was a nerd back then too
One nick show I never remember. I can't believe I forgot this one.
That was some MAJOR SCREAM HE HAS!! AND I LIKE IT!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
(sticks tongue at the Populars)
Oh my god! I remember this!!!!
This was my shit. Plus didn't it come on before a Nickelodeon movie? Like a Pixar short?
I would watch these shorts on Rugrats tapes. Maybe they were a bumper in between shows on TV? Anyway, it's great seeing them on UA-cam in better quality!
Am I the only one who gets a beatnik vibe from Betty-Ann?
Yes, Betty Anne was supposed to be a beatnik, same with Grubby Groo. Though at times, Betty Anne kind of reminds me of a modern-day hipster, with her horn-rimmed eyeglasses, and how she just untied her shoes for the heck of it.
Fucken Nostalgic🙃
From the 90s to 2018😎
LAY OFF MY SHOES
1:19 LAY OFF MY SHOES
"We tell the misfits..."
You mean the band?
i forgot that i remembered this 😆 what a trip down memory lane
more More MORE 🤣😂🤣😂
I'm a little disappointed that this isnt on DVD or VHS
That's what UA-cam is for!
Apparently, some shorts was featured on some Rugrats videos.
Tommy's screaming never gets old. They need to air these shorts on Nick Pluto TV (yes, I've got Roku).
Wasn't this a part of Kablam?
Not this short, but later Off-Beats shorts. These were on Nickelodeon's SNICK block in early '96, then they were later shown on the first (new) Paramount Rugrats VHS Release, "Tommy Troubles".
1:19 LAY OFF MY SHOES!!!!
1:29 when is he going learn to keep his comments to himself
This, was my childhood!
Wasn't this on a Rugrats vhs tape? Or maybe it was the Hey Arnold movie?
@1:32 Looooaaaaaah!!!
XD LOL
Boy got thrown far
her: hey your shoes are untied
me: but i wear flip flops, so they never had laces.
Tina: GRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Why do I remember this and at the same time don’t remember this?...
Poor Billy. Every time Billy speaks, Tina gets mad and they toss him outta the group, most likely into a trashcan, due to the sound effects we hear.
Oh mane I remember this show.. I loved this show
oh wow what a throwback
I remember this
I remember seeing this when I was about 10. Good times.
I have not seen this in so long
Heh, at 2:03 it sounds like Rapunzel is referring to the Popular kids as "Poplars!"
The origin story of Millia Rage.
That basically was Vine Whip.
The pauses the happen after an out burst.
the girl with the bow reminds me of helga from hey Arnold
Tommy has fire! 🔥
Oh, memories!
Nobody fall for your shoes on untied prank, but Rapunzel. But by the time they come back to do it again, she got them back
Oh god I remember this show. XD
