Personally, I've got very little interest in VR gloves. Maybe it's one of those things where I don't know what I'm missing until I've used it, but I'm skeptical about the cost/practicality to benefit ratio. Especially when there are other factors I think are more important first (fov and resolution for example).
Don't get me wrong, I'm interested in VR gloves like I am self driving cars. I can't wait to see it become the norm, and I love the first hints of it today. Nevertheless, they're both far from being practical.
@@JoshsBookishVoyage tbh i dont think the main idea behind vr has ever been to be practical, its always just been to have fun and haptic gloves would enhance that for most people
I just want some company to release a full set of haptics, like imagine being so immersed in skyrim vr where you can feel the cold metal of your sword or every raindrop hit you
@@clartbur I meant practical for the average user to have access to them. Like, I could get a Tesla and have self driving. Except that's about as attainable for me as a yacht or a private plane (I'm exaggerating but hopefully you get my point)
it looks like they got lucids gloves and just made them cleaner looking kinda overpriced imo tho also you could print out a custom tundra tracker connector for them
the reason they dont have the restrictions or string on the pinky is because the pinky is the weakest finger and its the easiest to be hurt. correct me if im wrong please im just guessing lol
Hahahah, that was exactly what this made me think of. Funny thing, the Power Glove actually was an attempt at making a cheaper version of the Dataglove for the consumer market, it originated from VR technology in the first place.
Still a long way from a good haptic feedback glove but I understand what you are saying about it adding to the experience. Realistically it might take another ten years or even longer? If something comes along sooner great.
There already is a set of gloves that's above and beyond this, with even tactile simulation that you can feel the actual textures and temperature, thrillseeker talked about it on his channel. _Far_ out of the price range of the consumer market XD but the technology already exists.
There is a lot of focus on pushing the boundaries of vr. There is one area that I feel no one talks about... the need for additional add-on prescription lens. My wish is that all the companies agree on a standard interface which allows prescription lens add-on to fit on all headsets and all generations. I am fed up of spending extra money on prescription lenses every time I change my headset.
@@noelvalenzarro I can't wear my glasses. I have in the past scratched the lens on my headset. There needs to be a better solution than trying to squeeze my glasses into a small space.
Could probably achieve teleport control at the least with gesture triggers, that'd be the most practical way. Honestly _would_ be super immersive in that use to move around with your hands freed, not needing to hold controllers or thumbsticks the whole time. Actuslly you could probably even do smooth locomotion by just pointing your finger in the direction you wanna go, combined with head tracking.
I love AR idea pretty cool and VR glad there gloves for quest sheeesh the future is coming but VR is first bois no floating cars officially just yet so if your a fan a Back to the future well sorry for that but would be cool by 2030
I liked the idea of the haptic gloves up until I saw the controllers attached to the gloves that to me just looks ridiculous also I think a lot of people's controllers are going to probably wind up broken I wouldn't buy those even if they were 299 I'll wait for something better to come along and hopefully cheaper and works way better
Only reason controllers are attached is because the quest 2 can only track the position of its controllers and nothing else. This wouldn't be a problem with basestation tracking
I burst into laughter when I saw the price tag (4500 USD!) yeah I'm sorry but for what they're selling I would much rather make them myself with the open source kit and save myself 4000 USD, that price tag is obscene compared to the alternative with little more to offer.
I was wondering about that when I first heard about this, or maybe if in vr a big object phases through your hand. Unless the glove has some sort of safety features.
I can easily see that strings being replaced by tiny electromagnetic pieces controlled by a microcontroller. The software part of it gets even more interesting, but I will not give that up until I try it myself.
the thing is, Meta doesn't want to open the API for outside product, including everything in the market now, if you want your product working (katvr, bhaptic vest, cybershoes etc etc etc) the "code" of the software need to be in the game directly, every developer need to do it and test it, one by one... now KatVR said that the find the way to walk around this problem, we'll see, but probably the fact that you have a demo and something with Alyx (steam) is because they just can't do anything on standalone for the same reason regardless of the, out of this world, price tag on this gloves.... and about it, they honestly don't look so premium to make me think the price is worth it, they look very "toys", I already saw way better looking gloves around
These would be sick to drive a car, fly a plane, No Mans Sky would be amazing. Also I'm sure a pretty good game where you don't really walk around much is the Rick and Morty game, even though it's not the greatest, that's what came to mind.
My biggest struggle with VR No Man's Sky is trying to recenter my ship; if these gloves could somehow emulate the feeling of a joystick under tension allowing me to figure out where center is by feel alone that would be incredible!
If they can get these gloves below the cost of an Oculus Quest, because many of them right now either you need to build yourself or they cost more than even a Pimax headset.
Regarding the pinky I think most people's pinky are weak and any excess force on it would be very uncomfortable. Plus I think it's easier for the tendons in the hand to move the three fingers together pinky is just on its own.
Thank you "Mysti" While very pricey, it is a move (development) forward. I am looking more on this. Also, maybe in the future with temp feed-back. Please! thanxs -Roaddog007-

Excellent feedback and description of your experience with the gloves. Can imagine what you felt/experiences while using it!

These should 100% have tundra tracker support, the whole package would be tiny
One down side to this is at the moment is that you can't control a avatar for example. Would love to see glowes with joysticks and buttons.
