That computer most likely had windows reinstalled. There were 2 operating system options when you boot it up which happens when you reinstall windows xp but keep the old installation on the drive instead of formatting it. Also there is no Dell OEM info in the system information window which would have been there if it was a default installation

Ah yes, the classic Dell "School Special"... much of my school career was spent on these along with the newer Dell Optiplex mini desktops that every school seemed to have. All ran Windows XP Professional.
I have a DELL similar to this and 2005 I have lots of games from back then that used to run on it including such classics as "Command and Conquer Tibirian Sun" "The Sims" "Halflife" but the most valuable thing to run on it was music software "Reason 4".

I remember these being at school, but mostly just a few. The rest were the style that sat under the monitor. I remember Dell used to send us mail catalogs all the time with these towers in them, but they never had the desktop style, I'm guessing those were for education only. I always liked the look of these although, kids always stole the round Dell emblem off of them.
@@JordanU This model is rather infamous for not having an AGP or PCI-E slot to the frustration of many a gamer who’s family had this PC, me not being one of them I just remember people on forums being so mad.
Man 20 bucks? I would have asked them to give me to bucks to take it lol! Those old Dimensions were really good machines. They really lasted for a long time, even when they were plagued with bad caps. I left one of these outside in the elements without a side cover for over a year and after replacing the stick of ram the damn thing booted right up! My problem with them is that at this point they really aren't all that useful to me. Sure they can do a lot of things just fine, but those things are not something I want to keep a dedicated computer for. They're just too big for how little power they have and I really don't have the room. The cases, however are very well built and would make for a pretty cool sleeper PC build! Those monitors are pretty good too! I am using one every day for my school at home/homework setup right now! My dad bought it new! Still kicking! Man I miss Windows XP!
Between all the videos I can make with it, and how much use I can get out of it, I'll more than get my $20 worth. I'm a very low-tech user for the most part, aside from video editing, this machine will handle my day-to-day operations just fine. I will have some more videos on this one coming up, particularly in the area of showing how it handles newer operating systems.
@@JordanU Ahh I tend to forget that people actually make money off youtube lol. If that was the case for me I'd definitely buy a lot more fans lol! Yea I can understand how these machines can be useful, but for me most of my usage is internet based which is hard for a P4 at this point, and they're just take up too much space for the amount they would get used.
Wow I've never seen a purple keyboard PS/2 to USB, only the green mouse ones. I imagine they're the same thing and the color code is only cosmetic, much like RCA cables. A mouse like that is probably a lot more comfortable for long use periods than a "standard" symmetrical one. I'd get one to test that theory but I have yet to find one that's not a grungy mess. McAfee, more like MakeAFreakshow. Looks like one of those horrible Holmes clip fans in that picture, not much of a loss. I have to wonder now if this computer was a survivor of that tragedy. Possibly a Lasko 2009 or something in that other picture. When I think of Windows XP, this is the first machine that comes to mind; a truly iconic piece. My favorite thing about this computer is that it's, as far as I know, the only desktop Dell ever made that had a truly complete matching package: tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers (although no printer). The small amount of memory and subpar graphics power would deter me from ever having a use for one (I'd need the Optiplex at minimum), but I still kind of want one just for that reason.
Most likely. I have my doubts about the comfort of that mouse. From my experience, a lot of these crazy ergonomic designs are a lot more of a gimmick than anything else. Unless you buy one that's recently manufactured, you'll probably never find one that's not a mess. That material seems to degrade with time. McAfee is awful. No certainty on the history of the machine. I tend to think it probably was used in the house I bought it at. The popularity and longevity of these machines truly has made them an icon. Certainly one of the first pieces of hardware that comes to mind when I think of Dell. While I think I have one of each of the peripherals that came with these computers, I don't have a complete matching set, which I really would like to find. Aside from video editing, I can do just about everything I use the computer for with one of these, providing the memory is expanded. I've never ran anything but Windows XP on these; since XP is starting to become difficult to use on the Internet, it is time to experiment with some newer operating systems on this hardware.

Ah, I used to have one of these, albeit one that I rescued from the trash of a nearby apartment complex. These machines...were not the best performing, let's just say that. You're right about that, Dell really gave them too little RAM for Windows XP. One of my favorite things to do is rejuvenate computers, new or old. It's kind of satisfying to see bloatware/crapware get uninstalled, you know?
With the addition of more memory, these performed just fine. My main machine was a 4600, used daily up until about a year or two ago. Even then the only reason I stopped using it was due to compatibility issues under XP, the hardware was still fully adequate for what I do.
Decent computer my school used to have those but they threw them out for some crappy chrome books. The memory and the celeron processor is holding it back if anyone wanted to upgrade it to windows 7 celeron processors are god awful
It looks like whoever had this computer before went places on the internet they probably should have not gone and then instead of reinstalling windows and fixing this nonsense, they just said screw this and tossed it.
@@GamesRoom109 It's poorly written, unstable, and unreasonably resource intensive. By far the absolute worst operating system they've ever come out with.
