This man has a point. If the goals are not clear, you are not going to be able to compare your work against the competition. If you can't compare yourself against the competition you won't be able to see where you need to improve. Plus there has to be a certain level of giving the people what they want. You can make the music that you like as a hobby but if it's not mainstream music people want to listen to or pay for, it's not making money and it will always be a hobby.

I personally get fulfillment from having my stuff perform well commercially because that means I left a positive impact on a lot of people. So based off what it sounds like your goals are, this video/lifestyle may not be for you, which there's nothing wrong with that at all.

It's almost like eq'ing for example if you turn up your low end (kick and 808) you'll have a less loud, muddier mix, but you still need it to hit, and then if you turn down your melody, you'll probably have less mid range. I'll do a video on "Why volume levels are all you need to make your beats sound good *pretty much*" or something like that
