The people in the area and the owner of the property wanted it to be left to turn it into a tourist attraction and it still is but due to lack of visitors it had fallen to decay. Nothing really there anymore but the owner still maintains the property and you're still allowed to visit with permission.

My husband and I are actually living in our motor home here (until we can find some land to build on)
I can look to my left and see Jackson Lake and if I look to my right..... what's left of spectre...... there are 24 goats out here on the island. Fun place to visit. Very popular for photo shoots. Only 3 bucks to enter and it's very well kept! The owners are amazing! If you will go like the FB page "Jackson Lake Island" you can see the new baby goat pics! As well as anything else Spectre related.

+Joe Mamma I agree. Adam has included reference clips in the past but being on the road the way he is he may not have been able to do it for this particular video. Personally I don't know how he manages to edit all his regular videos because if I were touring the country in a van it would be really tough for me to take the time to sit for hours editing clips, locating reference video to insert at just the right place, and putting together all the content he does :)

+rockafiremmbb maybe the people who eventually bulldozed the buildings had someone keep it up so they could eventually do something with it. probably cheap to them to have a guy go out once a month or so.

Wow! I didn't know that was a real town specifically built for filming the movie, that's pretty crazy. Wonder how much that all cost. But it's also really weird to see an incomplete faux town that was never meant to be a real town just sitting to rot like an actual abandoned town. It's art imitating life I guess.

The security at Disney parks think they are tuff. They "tried" to ban my friend for paparazzi work when their own workers tip him off. Disney security use regular walkie Talkies. Get a police scanner an you can listen. All you have to do is get a signal jammer an their regular radios will not work. They call everything in vita cell phone so a jammer is a good investment.

  • @kimgriffith1166

I would like to suggest, Adam, that you go back to Jackson Lake Island now and refilm the sites of Big Fish. My family and I went there today and most of the buildings have been cleaned up and some have been repaired. The Styrofoam arch trees is still there along with the Welcome to Spectre sign. I took pictures of the line with Shoes on it. It has a few extra pairs on it but it frames the view down the street looking at the church very well. The General Store has never been rebuilt and the home of Jenny is gone all except for the pillons it sat on. My grandchildren enjoyed the visit and loved running under the Spanish Moss trees and along the banks of the Chute near Jenny's 'house'. Next time you want to film scenes from Big Fish, include a trip down Pike Road off Vaughn Road, Montgomery and you will find the long stretch of road they used to film the father and son open top car ride. Also, the cave of Karl the Giant is located at the public boat launch behind AES Industries, Tallassee, Al.

As cool as this would be to see in person, I'm always thinking,. "How does Hollywood, self proclaimed environmentalist, get to just leave so much shit around here and there" Some of it I get gets used long after, but in the case of Shindlers List, Popeye, Big Fish, and countless others. All that styrofoam! Holy shit. That never goes away

The Movie was shot in Wetumpka AL. The big white house the boys father lived in is a private resident still there today. The scene where the giant and boy are walking out of town is modern day downtown Wetumpka. The Spectra town is kept up the town of Millbrook just out side of Montgomery Al.They charge admission It cost $2.00 to visit the set.

In Lafayette Louisianan where I live, theres this coolie system in the neighborhood that leads to this group of tunnels that you can only go so far into and then they get too small. But its called The Tunnel of Hell. Its even got that painted up above the entrance and has been that way since was before I was born which was 1975. When you go inside there you see people tagging the place since the 60s and 70s and apparently Sharks were scary back then because it says beware of sharks.
