In a nutshell, Indonesia is a country with the largest muslim population in the world, the largest buddhist temple in the world, was colonized by a christian nation, and having a hindu-majority Island as the most famous tourist destination.

the reason bali is still hindu is because, when majapahit kindom (hindu kingdom) fall, they were pushed back to bali island, despite bali itself is territory conquered by majapahit

I think it's too difficult to make a summary of Indonesian history in 12 minutes because it contains details that have an impact on the present 😂😂. Either way the information you get is mostly correct, considering that this is just a 12 minute outline summary will suffice 😀. I can see we have a lot of trouble pronouncing something like a person's name or a place. Nice 👍🏻

Not at all. This video describe Japan's liberation of Indonesia from 350 years of Dutch occupation as if it is an invasion by an evil power. Don't distort history! How happy natives were in1942! After 350 years of failures of independence, having been crashed and killed by Dutch as if they were worms!

I'm just gonna point out some major stuff you missed.
    1. The revolution was about 4 years long (1945-1949) with the Indonesians winning diplomatically.
    2. The aftermath of the revolution lead to the formation of the United States of Indonesia (Republik Indonesia Serikat), later converting to a Republic (1950), but remained authoritarian until BJ Habibie became president over the Republic.
    3. There was the annexation of Portuguese Timor (1975) and West Papua (1963), Timor Leste achieved independence in 2002 and several attempts and rebellions in West Papua occurred, unknown by popular Indonesian media.
Sorry if I missed any, you can post them in the replies.

But according to what my teachers say, 3.5 years colonized from Japan was way more torturing compare than 350 years colonized by Dutch. Japan was very cruel to the natives back then. Many of them are tortured & ordered to work really hard without any food until they starve to death.

They conquered the archipelago in a long strugling way, mainly because indonesia is consist of many kingdoms back then. Some of the wilayah even untouched by their colonization. And some only colonized for a little time. Its true some of the wilayah are colonized for 350 years, but some only for little period of time.

there are lots of mistakes in this discussion and I will correct some of them.
the first is about the Hindu Buddhist Dharma that you mentioned brought by the Indians, that is wrong because the Indians do not have a maritime culture as well as the Chinese and it is very different from the people in Indonesia they are of Austronesian descent and geographically the Indonesians are the only culture which supports maritime culture to develop because Indonesia is an archipelago. does it really make no sense to say that Hindu-Buddhist spreaders to Indonesia were Indians who did not have a maritime culture and you compare them with Austronesian people?
and the second mistake is that Majapahit is not Hindu Dharma, it is wrong. Majapahit is not Shivaism, after all, ancient Indonesians who worshiped Shiva, namely the Sanjaya dynasty in the 7th century and they did not know what Hinduism meant, they worshiped Shiva and mixed local religions. Majapahit is Shinkism between Buddha and Shiva and the local teachings and philosophies are very different from Shivaism, it makes no sense to be called Hindu.

Why modern Indonesian speak Bahasa Indonesia and not Dutch ? why they keep being Muslim instead of Christianized like many African Nations that formerly a British, France, Belgium, or German colonies ?
Because Dutch didn't really care about indigenous people, indigenous people can practice their local language, practice their own religion, Dutch only care about spices and cheap labor, while other european colonizer also bring christian missionaries and teach indigenous people their language, that's why so many african and south american nations speaks french, spanish, or english as their lingua franca.

@@asmrninja77 I agree with you. In addition, the Dutch East Indies were very large with islands separated by oceans so that the Dutch only thought about the business of getting money to build the Netherland in Europe, unless there were local kings or local leaders who rebelled, the KNIL army intervened to eradicate them.

As i know, dutch brought christianity to the indigenous, but not in the obvious island like all Java because Muslim in Java was very strong back then, so dutch rather to brought christianity to some little area/islands like Batak tribe, Maluku, North sulawesi which is Manado and Papua(because Muslim wasn't in there), etc. Cmiiw hehee

I think the greatest crime in is to reduce and generalize Indonesia to just being some other Islamic country, with Islam being the only thing worth noting when talking about Indonesia. Here in Malaysia most Non-Malays will associate Indonesians to being a carbon copy of Malays in Malaysia; after travelling Indonesia extensively I can assure you that nothing else is further from the truth. Indonesians are open minded, progressive and tolerant, and most importantly they are proud of their heritage whatever it may be. More power to Indonesia.

This is a one-sided history. You overplayed the negativity of the Dutch and didn’t touch the negativity of the Muslim invaders. And, you didn’t mention how the Dutch saved Bali and were the catalyst for the Hindu renaissance there.

I would love to see a great details about Srivijaya and Mataram having same dynasty, how Mataram would fall into chaos and moved their capital East, fractured by family feud, overthrown by a young man cucking local leader, created a kingdom that would rather pissed off Yuan Mongols, and series of events that gave rise to Majapahit.
    Anyway, great video
