Thanks for the fair Evaluation. You cannot ignore the fuel issue. The ram delivers greater than 10% more distance on the same fuel. With diesel around So Cal at 18:24 the high $4/gal to low $5/gal that’s the same as buying fuel for 50 cents less per gallon! Imagine saving $10/tank.

I have the '24 GMC 3500 and just towed my new 14k lb 5th wheel for a week...let's just say the engine exhaust work really freaking good when it kicks in! Like seriously good! GMC seems to let the transmission do it's work to slow you first before it lets the engine exhaust take over. It slowed me in the Arkansas Ozarks from 75 to 65 on a steep downhill in only a few seconds, but only after I had tapped the brakes to get it to kick in.
As for the turbo lag, I feel it too, but I've already learned to rev the engine a little before I need to gun it into traffic quickly. You test the 0 to 60 again, but with the revs higher when you launch!
I do miss the seats in my '20 Ram 1500 tho. Wife hates the GMC seats on long trips already. 😅

I tested the 24 GM and the dead pedal lag was really notable. I messaged different UA-camrs and your the only one who felt it also. It was really annoying in traffic. Some comments back were that this was normal but I've never felt it that bad when i drove the 1st Gen LP5. Its something in the GM tune.

@@neilenglot3039 I haven't noticed any lag in the 22 23s. In 24 they made changes to the turbo, and its controller as well as some injector and piston changes. The new electronic turbo controller is suppose to be much quicker so I expected no lag at all, but was disappointed when I dove it. I dont think its any of these changes that are causing the lag, I think it's the ECM programming that's trying to eliminate low RPM soot before the turbo spools up that would cause the DPF to regen more often.
I ordered a new 24 before driving one and am trading my 2018 Ram in but after driving one im not sure.

I have owned a 2016 3500 HO Cummins and now I own a 22 3500 Duramax. The Duramax greatly benefits from a little brake torquing before launch. There is no torque management like the Ram. I timed both in stock form with some brake torquing. At 6400 feet above sea level (where we live) the Duramax was a full second faster 0-60 7.7 seconds. Now, my Cummins was tuned. When I cranked up the Cummins to level 6 with some brake torquing it hit 60mph in 5.9 seconds with a whole heapin’ of black smoke.

Ok here is my 2 cents worth A 2500 is a 2500. Doesn’t matter what brand it is it’s a 2500 Back in the day guys understood what you could tow and haul with a 2500. There were no numbers from dealers. For me Cummins all the way In 20 years the 5th gens will still be wanted unlike the chevys. Every year of Dodge with a Cummins is still really sought after except maybe a 3d gen and some people even like them No comparison. Don’t get hung up on the numbers folks

Ive had all 3 brands over the years and since I dont really tow heavy or often, and don't want to deal wil the emissions BS, I will be ordering an LT 2500 Silverado with the 6.6 gas and the options I want from my local Chevy dealer. I am not a ram guy, but i agree when it is said that the oversquare cummins makes great low end torque, better than the other two. However i do not believe in the 68. Glad to see the latest rams have gotten away from the cp4.

I’ve owned a 2017 Laramie, and now a 2020 Limited Cummins and routinely pull a 10k car hauler. I do find all the hand wringing about tow rating to be a little silly as very few will tow more than about 12-13k. But the brands don’t have much else for bragging rights. It is disappointing that Ram is so slow in updating, but their interior from the 19 refresh was so far ahead of the rest as to not heed it. I am looking to upgrade and my towing needs are reduced a bit now so I am looking to move to a gas option but still an HD truck. I am looking at Ford to see if the interior upgrades are enough to get me to buy my first Ford in 40 years. We’ll see.

Jeez, guys, on GM trucks press and hold the Traction Control switch - HOLD it in until you see both Traction Control AND Stabillitrak turn off (you'll see yellow icons in the gauge display). Put the truck in Tow/Haul mode (this increases the line pressure on the clutches in the tranny and will help prevent slippage and limp-mode). Put the truck in 4WD HI, step on the brake with your left foot, press on the gas pedal and bring it up to about 1,500 rpm for a couple seconds. This will allow the turbo to spool, and then go to the floor with the gas pedal while at the same time coming off the brake - and HOLD ON. You aren't gonna believe what these trucks will feel like coming off the line with a 4WD boosted launch.

I think you gotta put the GMC in tow haul mode for a better take off. If I remember correctly, it basically skips 1st gear when not in tow/haul mode. You should do it again for the GMC.
Also, before watching the RAM, I’m still taking the 10speed tranny of the GM to be faster than the RAM’s 68RFE with the low-output Cummins

So both are nice trucks first of all. However I honestly don’t think Ram is a truly viable option in the 3/4 ton segment. There’s just too many compromises you have to make with them.
On the flip side with GM you actually don’t have to go to a 3500 unless you just want to, and that was before the max tow package on the 2500s.
I say it a lot but it’s just the true facts. Ram is way behind GM and Ford in this segment. Way behind.

Forget all those mpg numbers.. when you drive big rig and work on them for over 35 years we never ever tried to use mpg as an indicator. Diesel motors are based iron efficiency.. most guys like cat cummins Detroit all have numbers we look at and that is lbs of fuel burn per torque and hp... just like my 5.9 99 ram was getting 21 plus on highway.. my 2012 6.7 gets maybe 15 on highway.. but again you look at hp n tq between the 2 motors it will always require more fuel burn just because of increase in hp n tq... its really not about miles over speed like a gas... the prob is the big three just want to show off speed performance and how fast it can tow off the line... I'm mean really. I have a mack a freightliner and they range between 425hp to 500 on freightliner... believe it out not I dont care about 0 to 60. Every tractor will move 70k plus... and get itnto highway speed within a mile or so.. .its all about longhaul and minimal repairs for at least half a million miles....

And comes with the side running board, Ram don't come shit, interior way better than ram, had all the options, 5th wheel package power fold mirrors heated, front camera, well I'm only going to tow a 18,000 lb, rv Fifthwheel, so don't care about the com apart, power,, and the HIGH COUNTRY, msrp, 93, grand, dealers sell em for 75 grand, ram stuck at over a hundred Grand, lol, screw that,,

GM don’t have the Allison any more. The 10 speed transmission that GM has behind the Duramax is a Ford trans. Allison let them put their brand on it and I feel it was a huge mistake considering all the problems the 10 speeds have been having. Also if you want to put Horsepower comparisons, you should get the Ram 3500 H.O. With the 6 speed Aisin trans with over 1,000lbs torque Vs the Duramax.

The only reason RAM is using Cummins is because Stellantis cannot make good Diesel engines, the ecoboost died because emissions and it was pretty bad engine. I have a friend that had three engines of the ecoboost, that engines died afte 100k miles. While the GM or Ford last much more than Stellantis Diesel Engine.

@@chanceheimann919 I do know the Duramax is a turd. It accelerates like molasses and the overall truck is just garbage. I’ve owned 2 brand new ones and never will I buy GM garbage again. My 2021 and 2022 where both left inoperable at about 5k miles. Both frames had rust all over them not even 6 months old. Sold both of these trucks back to the dealer. Never again.
