  • Replacing u-joints with basic tools: In this video I will show you how to replace u-joints, also called cardan joints, or spicer joints. The vehicle in the video is a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, but the process is very similar for any u-joint replacement.
    Here is the u-joints I used: www.amazon.com...

    One of the better u joint installation videos. I am a driveline technician and usually watch these videos for a good laugh. One thing to watch out for on those Spicer joints is there is a thrust washer in each cap. Make sure they stay in the cap. If one sticks to the trunion and you get 2 in one cap and none on the other side it will shake like a m-fer.

    Sincere thanks from a UK Cherokee XJ owner, thanks to your video I got both UJs changed on the driveshaft. Hard work, but your clear demonstration made it straight forward and achievable - I'd have had no chance on my own!! Thanks so much, videos like this and others give more information and experience than a thousand paper manuals!

    Thanks for sharing this. The other video I looked at, started with the driveshaft already out. I appreciate you starting from the beginning for someone, like me, that has never done this before. So, again, THANK YOU.

    Don’t hammer directly on your drive shaft. It may cause imbalance. Make sure it’s always supported and you hammer on the u joint

    I replace the U-joints on my 94 Dodge Dakota and the axle is set up the same way as that truck I was just wondering did you use the c clips after you put the bolts back on? Or does that bracket with the 3/8 bolts hold the cap with the bearings in there? With the Loctite

    What are the symptoms that identifies to change this item ? I’m curious due to my truck shaking from 40 to 70 mph on the highway and I can’t find out why it shakes . I’ve replaced my shocks/struts front and rear, also balanced and rotated my tires but I still have this horrible shake between those speeds , could my ujoints be the reason for this ?

    • @AdmiralOffRoad

      170,000 but I've had to change the U joints before. The increased driveshaft angle caused by lifting the vehicle shortens their lifespan.

    Have you replaced the u-joints on the front driveshaft?

    • @AdmiralOffRoad
      @AdmiralOffRoad  6 років тому

      I have not. I had to replace the rear because of a Pinion angle that I have now corrected. The pinion angle was a little off which caused the U joints to wear quickly. I temporarily removed the front drive shaft when I swapped the front axle and the U-joints were still in good shape
