As this platform ages, this video will continue to grow in popularity.
You’re my favorite Subaru content creator :) I just bought a 21’ WRX Limited and your videos teach me so much about cars that I didn’t know. Thank you for all you do Smeedia and Happy Thanksgiving!
Congrats on thr car my friend and happy Thanksgiving 🔥💪
I've had 2 versions of the AP and it's always made me wonder why don't they call it a Divorce rather than Un-Marry 😂
A divorce seems more fitting than unmarried 😅
This deserves more likes!
Think of it as an annulment.
@@migbham1 annulment seems fitting..
@@BabyCharlotteschannel 😁
I wish these would work with Jdm sti cars in the uk, I wish there was some way as easy as this to measure knock and all the other good features you get!
Do people do USDM swaps over there to be able to use accessports? 🤔
If I Un-Marry my accessport will all my Tunes from my Tuner and the Tunes from cobb still be saved on the Accessport if I re-marry it to my car again in the future? I need the car running stock for my new motor.
Finally got my custom plate for my 07 Fozzy XT yesterday. Ordered back in May
Whats it say?!
@@Smeedia 07 Fozy I should have done 07FOZZY but I liked the way it looked with the space in between 07 and FOZY
Happy Thanksgiving T! Great video I've seen focus ST and about 4-5 wrx/sti's at dealerships with the AP mounted (and baking in the sun all day) for sale in the past. 🦃 Day!!!
Happy Thanksgiving my man! 🔥
You did color of the day!!!!! Happy thanksgiving Tanner!
Happy day after Thanksgiving Alec 🔥🙏
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Tanner!!
You as well my friend! Hopefully you had a good one!
Happy Thanksgiving 🍁 Tanner!!!
Happy Thanksgiving my friend!
What if u don’t have the car anymore?
Damn. I follow you regularly. Watching old videos is crazy. Blue is grey, the gti. Now blue is wide. I was coming here to see if I can un marry and not have it change my tune. Life changes and I think it’s time to trade in my car. Guess it’s going with the access port.
There's definitely no need to let it idle that long. Let the cold start do it's thing then drive normally for a few miles before ripping on it.
Can the dealer see if this was ever installed in the first place?
Good video especially for those who don't know or are just plain curious
Been asked a fee times for one so figured I'd knock it out while I was doing mine
@@Smeedia another good one would be on what to do if you bought a car that's been sold still married or tuned with rom raider or other means
is there a way to put the stock tune back on without unmarrying? I'd like to keep it married for monitoring purposes
i need to go down from a 93 tune to 91
It’s called a divorce pal 😂
💀🤣
What if I already sold the vehicle I used the access port with. I want to use it on my new car?
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving Alexander!
Mine says it can’t get the ECU into transfer mode
Wait what’s happening to the Golf R?
Changing to a new tuning software 💪
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
Happy Thanksgiving Charles 🔥
I miss the green test connectors. It's a love hate relationship.
Those green test connectors have a special place in my heart lol
This was precisely what I needed to know. Thank you for the how to. If I'm being honest, I'm filled with a mild sadness at the prospect of going to the garage and removing the ECU and DSG flashes on my 2019 Golf R, but the BMW I4 that just arrived has neither an engine nor a transmission to "flash."
Time will tell which I miss most; gasoline prices versus turbochargers and cylinders. 🥹
Keep me posted on it, makes me miss my old R 😭
@@Smeedia Nooooo!!! Please don't tell me that. I've got about 20 hours left with mine before it turns into a BMW I4.
Enjoy ot while you can 💔
The BMW sounds like ot should be fun though, instant torque!
I sold my Ford focus before doing all this, and now i have an E90 n54 im trying to use my accessport on, any suggestions on how to uninstall the ford and use it on my bmw?
If you did this vid in December, could’ve have titled it un-merry. Lost opportunity lol
Ohhhh big brain energy right there 😅🔥
My wrx 2015 took off the accesport unmarried its acting funny is it normal ??
Thank you !!! Good video
Can you do this with out the car that it was originally used with.
So since you just unmarried it say you had another car right there with you as soon as you unmarried it would it work on the other car or would you still have to send to Cobb for like a technical unmarry ?
It would work on the other car as long as the AP is made for that ECU
It never uploaded factory tune i was supposed to turn to the off position then press ok after the first loading process was done then turn to the on position and press ok again to uninstall 🤦🏽♂️
What do I do if it is married to another car that I don't have or own
what do i do if i bought a car that was married to a different access port, how do I undo it?
Can I leave my downpipe and cold intake on the car if I untune my WRX?
😎👍🏻👍🏻 Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving Tom 🔥💪
So if I uninstall my access port, the tune will be reverted as well?
I also have a similar question with my focus ST 2016 got a stage 1 91 OCT Tune
So just question is there a way to unmarry Accessport if car don’t start? Or have power? Tia
If I want a AP to just monitor things on my car will it void my warranty?
On older cars you could, newer cars not so much 😭
@@Smeedia so not a good idea for a 2021 sti
No sir 🙏
@@Smeedia do you know of any other way to monitor knock and AITs with out voiding the factory warranty
@@varady5801 if the car is stock. You don't need to worry about monitoring anything. I'd just not worry about it. If you don't have an AP you won't nerd out about the smallest stuff especially with a stock tune.
I know this video is old, but my car was totaled and unable to start I can’t U.N. marry it from that is there a way to still do it so I can add it to my Subaru?
Hmm... bigger things for the Golf incoming I'd assume based on your IG story?
😉😉😉
Can a accessport work on different platforms say I have a Subaru would a Volkswagen accessport work on a Subaru
Hey, I bought a car with a married accessport now i think i'm fucked what can I do? It's a 2015 GTI I'm trying to tune my car but I cant .
Thanks,
David
Was anyone’s start up and idle right after uninstalling the tune and going back to factory tune really rough like mine was?
can i unmarried the accessport if i don't have the car ?
see this is the thing, i spun my bearing friday evening, i’m trying to see if i can go to the dealer so they can cover it with warranty.
i’m stage 1+ , so cobb ap , cobb sf intake , and axle back! (2020 STi w/ 14k miles)
i’m tuned as well and i was told by a Subaru B tech to just unmarry it and to come in subaru so that they cover it with warranty but i would obviously want to put the accessport back on after.
Unfortunately thats not 100% true. Even if you marry than unmarried an Accessport on your car it changes the PID # and SOA can see that when they do their investigation 😖
Trying to unmarry my AP, engines currently out of the car, when I switch from acc to ON the AP turns off?
Totally random question but what do you do for a living man? You seem very successful and I was curious
Motor builds, UA-cam and a few other things 🙏🙏
Hey man, what if I’m replacing my old v2 with a v3 accessport? I want the tune that’s currently on the car from the last owner to stay until I can find time to have it re tuned.
I just bought a used unmarried AP with no flashes on it from an RS. Can I still run it on my ST as a diagnostic tool persay?
is it okay to just unplug the access port from a car its connected to?
If your not actively using it yes, you can keep it at home, in your glove box etc. You don't have to keep it open all the time
Just making sure if you unmarried the accesport it still keeps the tune on the car right ?
No, it will remove the tune and revert it back to stock 🙏
@@Smeedia What if you have a tune from another software but still need to un install the accessport will that mess with the tune from the new software I used?
Hey there Bud Thanks for the great content on this stuff. I recently had this happen to me except I was lucky enough to get the original access port to the car but I am extremely old school and I have no experience with the newer car's and am a owner of a bunch of the gen1 legacy ss turbo car's and the 2013 wrx 2.5Turbo has a massive amount of Cobb performance products on it and the old owner which owned the car for a few days wasn't a subaru guy or even a real car guy who unplugged the accessport and just walked away with it and sold it without it. It ran horrible of course but I limped it home and I started checking out the extra stuff on it and found a spot were the accessport had been. Now that I have the accessport back to this car is there a particular problem or way to correctly reinstall the accessport correctly and reload the correct program or is it just as simple as putting on the charger etc and just plugging it in to the obd port and it will straighten itself up? I have a regular obd2 scanner and it literally has a lot of cel codes for misfires to all kinds of different things and I cleared the codes for curiosity before knowing that the accessport was gone at the time. But since I have gotten it back I haven't had much time to explore this whole thing yet and I'm just collecting information on how to get it back in the car and hopefully it didn't damage anything or anything major? My email is dodgeman7403@yahoo.com if you are interested in getting ahold of me. Thanks for your time and consideration on this. Bill. PS it's a 2013 and is supposed to be just a regular wrx and maybe it's just a wrx. But isn't it supposed to be a 2.0ej and not a 2.5ej? I understand that everyone swaps in just about everything but it has a definite 2.5 and the intercooler is a STI model that has a screen snows water sprayer cooler and equal length headers with Cobb piping for the intake/up piping and the entire exhaust system and not the original Turbo. There is a lot of extra stuff on it as well but I am in Vermont and I purchased it in the middle of winter and it literally was so darn cold that I got bad frost bite and it got stuck in the back of the garage until now. Again thanks so much if you have the time for me for a bit of help on this entire mess and if I ever get the chance to return the favor I definitively will! Bill
Sounds like someone STi swapped it. Something relatively common with 2014 and older EJ models, they tend to be more strong. I would take it to a pro tuner in your area to make it run right
2013 factory widebody that the technician at Vermont sportscars got a hold of it and I have recently found a co worker who had information on the car before the original owner which passed away from covid Delta and the brother who ended up with it was just motivated by the dollar and it literally took me a while and I am older like I said before but I am a old engine V8 builder and I knew it sounded good at idle and I got a bore scope out and started with calling around with the Vin and it literally was just nowhere in the normal subaru places and I had never heard of a wizard before and the widebody and the other ground affects the carbon roof and the massively tall perrin wing and the metal large top mount intercooler and the sprayer then looking at the fully built forged valve relief pistons that made me want to know more about it and now found that it is a fully forged and balanced and stroked closed cell deck engine that is just awesome but it would have normally been a fully built wrc world car with the much newer body design and shell up to the 2019 style and its just fell through the cracks and it was just 1 of the special 550 cars to be built and sold by vt sportscars for the subaru team and to the registered team privateers and it literally is a one in a million and every single trial type of new part's must have been put on it for testing and then it ended up at his house and through the power of probate court its fully legal titled and the entire team at Cobb has been so nice and yes I only have the stage 2 and up otst tunes when we are at private events and track days but what a ride! I literally have no idea how to put a monetary value on this car cause it would never be able to get replaced and I am really serious about keeping it aways from a subaru dealership. But to give you a quick idea into the massively possibility that it's capable of doing. One tune is to use a 5gallon can after drained the system and the sunoco can is 121 octane and certain of 125 with the oxygenated fuel! It is very easy to overload the mich cups tires in 3rd and 4th gears. Thanks again for being there in the beginning and not just letting me make a BIG mistake with loading the incorrect tune and not really understanding the entire process and the needs of the system. But again I definitely knew that it was horribly weird for having square fuel rails and big fuelsystem with AN fittings in the beginning with it. Thanks again. Bill
@@billyputnam6892 awesome man, glad you got it figured out. seems you got pretty lucky with the fully forged block, that will last you. Subarus are definitely on the opposite end of the spectrum than big V8s when it comes to sound and power output, there's a sure fire love for both though in my heart hahah. Hope she runs like hell my friend.
If I buy a short block, how much should a shop charge me to install it on my car ? Like a fair price.
Depends on the shop but I've seen anywhere from $2500 to $4000
@@Smeedia $4k ??? Wow wtf
If I already have a tune on and I unmarry my access port will it get rid of my tune?
Yes it will, it will revert back to whatever map was on the cat before
Can I do this if I don’t have the car the access port is married to now🤣
Excellent video, quick question - ours was totalled and hauled away. I am trying to sell it on FB and I was asked if it was married - obviously it is, does it have any value to it still? Am I unable to divorce it? (stole that from @smeedia below) without the car here anymore. Thank you in advance. I did read through the comments looking to see if it was answered already, Hope I didint miss the answer.
What yr is your VW R and what protune ur using ?
2016 and was on a Cobb OTS before switching to I.E 🙏
Hey man is there anyway to get the tune off without the original cable the I bought a Jetta and it was tuned with cobb I’m stuck with that tune now
If I am replacing the ecu I need to unmarry my accessport before. Replace it then marry and reflash my tune on
Yes 🙏
I definitely appreciate this video!
I have a question…I have a 2017 mk7 GTI. I have come across used AP for sale. Some say they have uploaded tunes on it….will I be able to actually run those tunes if the AP is unmarried? Or would it be best to just buy everything new for peace of mind?
Personally I'd suggest buying everything new, most of the time the tunes are locked to the ecus vin 🙏
I belive my car was Open Source tuned before me getting my acces port, if i unmarry my Access port will it revert to my Open source tune or OEM factory tune?
It will revert back to the open source tune 🤙
A divorce process should never be allowed to happen, much less filmed. 🤣😂
🤣🤣🤣
You switching to EQT?
Not EQT 🤫
Hey Tanner, looking at the few mods my '05 OBXT came with: (AVCS turbo oil line, AEM CAI, Grimmspeed ebcs, aftermarket Intercooler and DP), I say my car was most likely tuned in the past. Thing is, the mechanic whom I bought it from, doesn't know anything about Cobb Access Port because I asked him. He simply maintained the car for two years, changed the fluids, brakes and tires, etc, until he sold it to me. So I really have no idea what tune my car has, neither I have any of the OEM parts to set it back to stock. Car has 210K miles, what can I do in regards to tuning/monitoring the motor? What if the motor already had a Cobb AP married to it? How do I go about that? Can I just buy a used/second hand Cobb AP and link it to my motor now to retune/monitor it? I'm just concerned I might do something wrong and.. well you know.. boom! God forbid.. I just want to eventually overhaul the motor (replacing all seals, gaskets, grommets, etc).. Not looking for any more speed, car's fast enough as it is for me.
When you first marry the AP to the car where is the original OEM map stored? When I look at maps on my AP like all the Cobb OTS and other maps I do not see the OEM map. Do they place the OEM map in a safe place to avoid you accidentally deleting it from the AP?
Correct. Stock ECU/DSG tunes are stored securely on the Accesport and the only way to access those is to unmarry the Accessport. It also creates a copy of the stock tunes on the PC when you connect Accessport via the Accessport program. (also stored away from your eyes, unless you want to mess with temp files of the program)
@Smeedia do you have a preference website you like to look for Subaru’s? Looking at picking up a used WRX between 2002 and 2007 for my son. Something we can build up together.
Facebook market place. Auto trader and Google. Very hit or miss right now but they pop up every now and then 🙏
I did this a while back, didnt update AP (not sure if that was the problem) an error popped up (fatal error) so right now my heart is racing im bout to pass out. i go update the AP then it states the factory tune is no longer saved and it basically gave me one. after all that, no more AP for me.
Sheeeesh stressful time 😳 happened to me when I walked away with my key while it was flashing
I just bought a vw gti with a stage 2 with a burble/crackle tune. But I don't want the pops. Is there a way to take that off
does unmarrying the cobb remove your tune also?
Yes 🙏
So to go back to the stock tune it just has to be unmarried
Hey bro, question!
What I do first to change the parts like exhaust and intake before to unmarried or first I unmarried my accesport and take off the parts?
Thanks for the information, you save my bacon. Two month before smog time, divorce completed.😬
Hi, I bought a cobb but its already married in another car how can I unmarry it?
You'll have to send it to Cobb for them to unmarry it, normally they charge around $400 or so
My WRX was totaled so I can’t plug into the ECU. Is there another way to unmarry?
You'll have to send it to cobb,, because it was in an accident they may do it for free 🙏
BTW hope your alright!
What if you get a fatal error
What do you mean by fatal? Like with the frowny face?
@@Smeedia I think the mount I was using with my access port was actually keeping my plug from being fully secure and it came loose while loading the factory settings! I unplugged, turn my car off and tried again without the mount to make sure the cord stayed secure and I’m good now!
@@Smeedia hopefully will buy another sti one day but gonna take all my positive equity and get a bike and pocket the rest for now
What if you bought a tuned car and you don't have the access port that was used
You can overwrite the tune with a new AP
@@Smeedia would you be able to get it from tuned to stock?
Just bought a 05 wrx with a Cobb accessport v2. Can I still use the ots tunes loaded on it or is it a paper wight now?
I just got a 2021 sti my friend has a 2013 focus st if i bought the cobb from him and he already unmarried the access port could i use it?
No, you'll need the AP that's specific to your ecm 🙏
How do you get it unmarried without having the car?
Send to cobb. They charge a lot to do it. U should find the info on their site
So if I buy a married accessport that's married to a 21 wrx and I have a 15 sti can I unmarry it without a 21 wrx ?
No, you'll have to send it to Cobb and have it unmarried. I belive it's about $450 to do so
They are charging 70% of retail price and you don’t have to send it it they’ll do it over email.
Con you use the cobb on a different car
Yesz they make them for alot of cars
Sorry to bring up an old video, but do you have any input on why car won't go into test mode? 04 sti, verified BOTH green connectors are connected.
I assume that's why my cobb ap keeps telling me verify ignition is on?
Make sure the wires haven't de pinned and are free of corrosion 🙏
@@Smeedia hey thanks for reply! Apparently I am an idiot and forgot that I pulled the ignition fuse so whenever I turn the key on the car will not go into test mode because it would not recognize that the key was even in the off position. Hopefully I start the car for the first time today
Happens, we've all done it 😅
Done with the car already?
Swapping to a diffrent tuning software 🔥
What if I got sold a married accessport , it’s unusable ?
Yes, only way to make it usable is to send it to Cobb and have them unmarry it

You may have to unmarry it depending on if they scan the ecm for smog 👀
Hey mate, been watching for awhile now and love you videos!Just have a quick question. I have to replace my ECU on my 09 wrx and I have found a 2011 wrx ecu that that is married to a Cobb AP. Would I have to divorce the AP or could I put the ecu and AP straight into my car?
Divorce the AP 🙏
So I got a stage 1 91 OCT tune on my focus ST does that automatically erase the tune and get set back to stock with this unmarry process ?
did you find out?
Does 27k for a 2019 Wrx 23k miles and a minor accident sound like a good deal? For selling not buying.
Is the title clean?
Few questions, does the ots tunes stay on the AP after you Unmarry it. And 2nd will it unlock the ecu so you can hook up ecuflash and romraider?
No and no
When you unmarried it, it puts the oem tune back on
And rom raider/ecu flash are their own softwares
@Smeedia I know they don't stay on the ecu I meant the Cobb itself. And I know ecuflash and rom raider are thier own thing. But when you use the Cobb it locks the ecu to where you can't use ecu flash.
I know this is a while from this video, but super need advice. Trading in my 2014 WRX modified with DP and intake on. Should I still Uninstall the AP? What can I do so I can sell the AP?
Uninstall the DP and Intake, install the stock parts then unmarry the AP
@@Smeedia ah well I failed to mention I do not have either of those things. Should I just take the L on the AP?
Can I unmarry an access port from someone else’s car on my car?
Unfortunately no, you'll need to unmarry it from the car it was married to
I sold my WRX and did not unmarry my access port for the purpose of using it for my new 2021 STI. I guess my unmarried accessport is now useless or is there any way i can unmarry it for a cost?
You can send it to Cobb, they charge about $500 to unmarry it 😭
@@Smeedia WHATTTTT!!!!!!! 500? Jezzz. But thanks for the reply sir.
What happens if you unmarry the Accessport and leave the aftermarket parts
Who’s in here about to part out?!
Tanner!!! Happy Thanksgiving!!! I have a quick question. My dealership says that If I ever get an access port install and whenever I go to the dealer for a warranty even if I unmarry it they have machines that can detect the ecu being reflash ans void any sort of warranty, have you ever heard of that?
They should be able to detect if there were any ECU changes but unless it is directly related to your claim you should be good. An AP tune will not void your warranty if your seat rails explode for example
That is correct, the AP will the PID Number and if need be they can go in and see if the car was flashed 🙏

Will this remove a Cobb ots tune? I am trying to do that.
this video just became even more relevant its insane
Lmao right? 😅😅😅
