Well, there was a bit of a format war, in the New York NY FM radio market at the time, which had some stations tweaking their playlists and formats for better ratings. 97.1 WQHT-FM "Hot 97" took advantage of the aural chaos on the dial, reaffirming listeners that they were rock solid (no pun intended), and not going anywhere.
