One thing to note about Dante's inferno was that it was an incredibly biased fanfiction, almost to the point of self insertion as many of the people listed in punishment in Hell was according to the author as people who by his eyes should be condemned and those who shouldn't have. It's impact on the world remains, but it's curious to see it with what flaws were there and realize that his interpretation is merely that mixed in with tinted glasses over who he praised and hailed and who he hated for one reason or another.
