Robert Stack and Pete Duel had such wonderful voices, actors don't seem to have that anymore.

The Name of the Game, one of my favorite series as a child, was way ahead of its time. This episode predated cable tv news and reality tv by 30 years.

Used to be on late night via reruns. Another great show from the 60's & fore runner to the NBC McCloud, Colombo, McMillan & Wife & Banacek rotation in the 70's.

I was 14 when this show was on. I didn't understand it, it was very intellectual, but I knew it was quality material. Robert Stack. Gene Barry. Those are the kinds of men I wanted to be.

Loved watching these two bros together. What a waste Peter didn’t get much needed help- maybe we would still have him. That was back before we really understood and any type of mental condition was looked down on and swept under the rug. The Duel brothers were talented and never got the chance to take it to the highest level. Peters suicide messed up Geoffrey to where he just didn’t care that much. At least he went back to school and has a pretty good life.
Who knows what could have been. So sad.

I was really young when this show was out but it made a big impression on me. I remember watching this episode as a child and it was very traumatizing what happened to Jim Hutton's character and now getting to see it again is a real special treat. The writing on the show was incredible and this particular story really touched on an important ecology topic of the time which was deforestation. There's just something special about this episode that I keep coming back to I'm not sure why..... the chemistry between Robert Stack and Susan Saint James was special, she wasn't just another pretty bimbo waiting to be victimized there was a lot of depth to her character and she was a unique actress. She definitely knew how to assert herself and was pretty tough when she had to be. Robert and Susan made a really cool team working together, wish there would have been a lot more of this to explore. That last scene between them at the end felt like it was the beginning of something special and just kind of sticks with you... thanks for a great post! R.I.P. Robert Stack

I just finished watching Chisholm, with John Wayne and Geoffrey Duel. I always thought it was Pete Duel in that movie. Those two look so much alike. Alias Smith and Jones was my favorite show when I was in the 7th grade. I don't remember this show. Mrs McMillan from McMillan and wife looks so young!

You are around the same age as me, I was 8 when Alias Smith and Jones came out, so, you're a tad older. But yeah, I was a fan of both Duel brothers, but I didn't realize Geoffrey was as short as he was. They only list Peter as being 5'10, but when I saw him on Alias Smith and Jones he was taller than Ben Murphy, so I thought he was 6'2 or at least 6 feet. But if he was just 5'10 than that would make brother Geoffrey like 5'7 or 5'8 at most. Take care!

I only ever saw the first series of The Name of the Game but loved it - thought the stars’ characters were SO sophisticated! I joined the merchant navy (mercantile marine) in 1970 so missed series 2 and 3 (don’t even know if they were shown in the UK). Anyway, thanks for making Savage Eye available - never seen it before.

this is such a wonderful clear copy, something I thought i'd never see as all the copies i've seen before have been unwatchable, so this is brilliant!!! I remember taking a day off work and "pulling a sickie" as they say, just to watch this episode on tv, so I phoned in to say I was feeling ill!! it was shown in the uk around 1972, after pete sadly died. in those days we never had a video recorder, so I took that day off work and to this day of course don't regret it!! this is so very special to see pete and geoff working together in this episode. this has always been one of my favourites. Thank you so so much for posting this- what a rare treat for us fans!!

+jan busell It's actually clearer yet on the copy I have, but the render for it to UA-cam was too large a file. :( Maybe someday I can find a decoder to make it a smaller file size and be able to share that, too. I'm so glad you and other fans enjoy it; like you said, it's bittersweet, but priceless.

Pete Duel had the most ingenious ideas that made him seem like such an enthusiasic kid that one would want to be around, that have I ever had seen, on Alias Smith & Jones, which had the best movie star westerners that I had ever seen on a tv show. He seemed so happy & was the greatest actor. The women had to love his hair. Its hard to believe that he seemed so happy. Around the same tine Chico, on Chico & the Man died.

There's an episode of this program with Steven Spielberg directing an episode called "LA 2017", where the smog has cause LA to live underground. It's there where Gene Barry is accosted above ground and brought to the underground hierarchy, and detained for a time. He's being surveilled in his accommodations there, as a female romances him. The scene shifts back and forth between the individuals staffing the video monitors, and Barry and the girl. It's then in the surveillance room that the two observers exchange the following; " there was a report in Cleveland of a 'surface' negro", while the other replies that reports said that the 'burn' in 96 had eliminated them" Interpret what you want on this exchange in the movie, but I'm sure some virtue signaler or sensitive black discovered this, and ran with it (to the NAACP and like), especially when they discovered that Spielberg directed the particular episode. This is probably why that particular episode, is no longer available on You Tube. like it used to be. (that's how I came upon it)
