The History of Europe [2600 BC - 2020 AD] Every year

- The history of Europe covers the peoples inhabiting Europe from prehistory to the present. The period known as classical antiquity began with the emergence of the city-states of ancient Greece. Later, the Roman Empire came to dominate the entire Mediterranean basin. The fall of the Roman Empire in AD 476 traditionally marks the start of the Middle Ages. Beginning in the 14th century a Renaissance of knowledge challenged traditional doctrines in science and theology. Simultaneously, the Protestant Reformation set up Protestant churches primarily in Germany, Scandinavia and England. After 1800, the Industrial Revolution brought prosperity to Britain and Western Europe. The main powers set up colonies in most of the Americas and Africa, and parts of Asia. In the 20th century, World War I and World War II resulted in massive numbers of deaths.

@@samuelspears6509 True, what he said is true depending on how far the destiny of every folk in Europe depended on Rome. However, years after years unt development started to rise among the folks in Europe that gave them the ability to upgrade their own civilizations on their own was a clear *clarified* sign that they are done with being a part of an Empire. That's the development he talked about.
Crete lasted 1100 years

How quickly it goes from german unification, to WW1, to WW2, then the collapse of the soviet union really shows just how quickly things are occurring in recent times. These 4 events are monumental cornerstones of what we consider "history", and they take up less than 5% of the video
History is much longer and much more storied than a lot of people realize. We have so many records of modern history (the last ~500 years) and so few from any time before that, that all those periods seem much shorter than they actually were, comparatively. It's a tragedy because the period from around the end of the bronze age to the beginning of the muslim conquests (~800BC-600AD) has not just a complete upheaval of the world several times over, but the foundations and developments of basically every school of thought and religion that we still have with us today. But that era is also 1400 years long, and we hardly know anything about it compared to the imperialist/modern era, which is 1/3 the length of time. Nevermind those 4 events, which all happened in the last 150 years.

I’m from the US. I really love Europe because of its big history, and languages. I have never been to Europe, but I would love to go.

Please do it's amazing over here
You'll be welcome.
Dear Steven,
Europe is nice and I hope for you that you can visit one day this beautiful and diverse continent. I love to be European/German and enjoy this diversity.
But don't forget the precious history and nature of your home. It's not only the time of the USA since 1776 or the Pilgrims of 1620, it's also the history of the Indians and also the history to be the torch of freedom. It was the USA that was the first modern democracy and your declaration of independence - although so many of the young generation don't honor it anymore - is a masterpiece of the enlightenment. This is, why I love your country so much although I feel bad because I don't agree with so many of your current foreign policy and lately I don't like this developments of the woke movement which in my view is a betray and huge danger of the enlightenment. Nevertheless, the USA was the first state in the world where individual but equal rights were introduced and this contribution to humans’ history is remarkable and can't be overestimated! The approach that everybody should be treated same (equal rights) is an astonishing revolution to organize a state. And, what the woke misunderstand, this does not mean to get equal outcome as so many of them believe. Your own individual pursuit of happiness determines the outcome and this by definition - as we humans are different - must lead to different outcome. Thus, equal outcome can only be achieved by unequal rights/opportunities and this is, why I believe this ideology is dangerous and would lead into tyranny and bring us back to the dark old time.
Although I praise the American declaration of independence and democracy, it took time to translate this ideal in real equal rights and the current woke criticize this - fair enough. But it was the USA/the West that made it and overcame step by step exisiting burdens and no other nation achieved this before. Instead of celebrating that the US society was able to overcome the gap between ideal and reality they want to overcome the so called structural racism, patriarchy and white supremacist which in my view hardly exist anymore. This does not mean we are perfect now, but it seems we were on a good path and hopefully the woke can't create their new aristocratic system where so called deprived people should get privileged access to power - this would be a huge step back. I grew up in such an society where children of academics were punished with limited access to universities. But the only feature that enables should be competence. Of course, the USA is not perfect in creating equal opportunities and there is still huge room for improvement but we should work on to overcome this by creating equal chances instead of creating a discriminating system where people get privileged access just due to their sex, sexual orientation, race or what else. Thus, we have especially to keep an eye on the woke movement that they don't poisoning the society with such a totalitarian equal outcome virus. But I have trust that this will not happen - you/we have created a better system we ever saw in 10,000 years of civilization and it would be a pity if this doesn’t survive.
Wasn't it an amazing ping pong of the mainly European philosophers that created the intellectual basis of an enlightened democracy and the American "Makers", that translated it into the first modern society and re-influenced Europe to follow the Americas successful experiment? Thus, USA and Europe can be proud of that what our common fathers and mothers have achieved, and we should conserve this and - where necessary - improve this.
P.S.: Sorry - I might exaggerate with the statement above but I see on the one hand too often arrogant Americans (we are the best) but also on the other hand so many like you, that look wistfully to Europe and believe they don't have an interesting history. This is in my view not true - The US-history is so incredible and I think USA and Europe have similar roots that connects Europe’s history strongly with the US-history - but you have also in addition the rich history of natives and indeed the incredible success history to be the first modern democracy. Instead of questioning this and even try to overcome the good what the USA achieved as the woke wants, be proud to your history without the feeling of superiority/inferiority.
Best
Michael

Love and German raids doesn't match at all! By the way, absolutely negative is that Poland and Lithuania are not shown as a unified state since the Union of Krewo in 1385. Also unfortunately, as almost always, the wrong name for the Polish Empire with Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth is used here.Using the term Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth is totally wrong. Because this Polish state was a Polish Empire and the use of Lithuania in the name of the state is nonsensical, as it suggests a kind of equality that did not exist! Besides that the term Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth based on a mistranslation and is therefore wrong. This term is wrong because the term Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth is a modern invention in connection with Poland. A nonsensical invention by historians that does not correspond to reality. Moreover, the term is being used incorrectly because the Polish term Rzeczpospolita has been mistranslated as Commonwealth. So the term Commonwealth is used because of an incorrect translation. For that reason alone, one should not use this term. But the term should also not be used because the use of Lithuania in the name suggests a kind of equality that did not exist! The term Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealt was not used at all in earlier times. It would be appropriate to speak of Rzeczpospolita is the traditional and official name of the Polish Empire as a whole, including all duchies and and all ruled territories. The name of the state Rzeczpospolita is a combination of rzecz "thing, matter" and pospolita "common", a calque of the Latin res publica (res "thing" + publica "public, common"), so the republic, incorrectly translated as Commonwealth in English. By the way, in Poland, the word Rzeczpospolita is used exclusively in relation to the Republic of Poland, while other republic is referred to in Polish as "republika". Used in international treaties and diplomacy, the state has been called the most serene ( most high) Rzeczpospolita Poland (Polish: Najjaśniejsza Rzeczpospolita Polska, Latin: Serenissima Res Publica Poloniae or also Rzeczpospolita of the Polish Kingdom or Rzeczpospolita of Poland. I love the bias in the ending. Doesn't include Kosovo even though it's recognized by 117 countries. Meanwhile, you're including Donetsk and Luhansk, which... hasn't been recognized by a single nation
The reason to mark a territory as a separated state is the fact of ermed forces and independent laws acting on this territory. It absolutely does not matter how many other states have approved the proclaimed independance. It should be relied on who controls the land and only on it. So LDNR and Kosovo should both be marked.
I understand motives of the author not to exclude Kosovo from Serbia but he should be a proffessional.
The creator of this video is Serbian.
Red Komunyaka I know. I didn't say that Donetsk and Luhansk shouldn't be included. I was only trying to prove what I was saying. If you don't wanna include a specific state, then why not include any of them to prevent bias?

Moravia didn't just cease to exist and become part of bohemia in the tenth century, it was still somewhat independent, being in a union with bohemia since the late tenth century and sometimes being under the ruke of a differnent ruler (for example in the second half of 15th century, bohemia was ruled by Vladislav Jagellon but Moravia and Silesia were ruled by hungarian king Mathias)

@@GreatPolishWingedHussars all empires that ever have been are a cooperation of smaller duchies or territories. The Holy Roman Empire was no different. England, was a commonwealth or "co-op" between many local lords all vying for regional power, the same was with the Ayubids, the Persians, the Chinese emperor kingdoms.
To claim that an empire is ever anything more than the willingness of its citizens to continue under the current leadership and laws is and always was inherently incorrect.
There are only 2 reasons wars are fought on a local level, the first, which is the most common in history, is over oppressive laws and leadership oftentimes levying taxes on goods or even confiscation causing mass starvation in the name of a foreign attempt at conquest. The second is over rights to land, status, and title, still very common but less common that foreign intervention as most titular conflicts were snuffed out before conflicts arose by the ruling power at the time in each respective government.
As for your translation about the Polish - Lithuanian Commonwealth, I'm unsure how you can claim it is translated incorrectly. You yourself translated it into the very words or prefixes within the title you claimed was incorrect so perhaps site where the true name came from to source its genesis instead of arguing over the translation.

By definition, an empire is usually a very large in terms of area multi-ethnic state with a strong central power and with political and military dominion of one ethnic group. The Holy Roman Realm wasn't all that, because it wasn't even a state and certainly not an empire. That was just a patchwork of territories consisting of hundreds of smaller sub-units of principalities, bailiwicks, margraviates, lordships, free cities, baronies, duchies and even simple counties and bishoprics and other territories. A complex of territories without a generally recognized central authority! That were all German small states. This all German small states were actually permanently at war with each other, so that a unified could not arise! 1000 years they killed each other. Ridiculous to call something like that an empire!
This is awesome. I can't imagine how much work went into this what amazes me is that until in the late 1800s there were tons of little Nations or countries. But after that the country's seem to get a lot bigger. Why was this?
they went from small states controlled by decentralised emperors to proper nation-states led by ideologies which required centralised states

Very nice way to understand Europe. Is there a way to have a chess to a better resolution video? some one the names are to small to be read, at least from my location.

I think you just proved that all our nations are hybrids of this (the now), that (the past), and the other (stuff we'd rather not admit)!!! BTW Excellent video, one of the best of it's kind.
Good video!!!
This is really good. One thing that's bothering me as a Finn is the shape of Finland 😂

FUCK TURKEY!!! Greece has 3000 years history (unlike turkish, that has only 1000 years), and Anatolia is greek land!

You occupied greek lands and assimilate greek population in Anatolia which now is about 50% of Turkish population!!!!
The Greeks actually did assimilations too to the natives.

Glad to see you added the Spanish kingdoms disappear after the French kings took over Spain. Even after the Spanish unification in the 15th century, the small kingdoms that made up Spain kept existing until the 1700s
and in a strange way it makes you respect Portugal even more. i'm curious if any of the separatists movements in Spain have reverence for the Portuguese. ?
Showing Kosovo as an independent state is more rational than Transnistria
What's the name of the music at the Beginning? Thx in advance
Portuguese borders hasn't changed since 1250.

I guess Portugal was just left alone
someone forgot the Portugal empire
They technically changed on the 19th century with the lossing of Olivença

The Holy Roman Empire started started in 800 with the crowing of Charlemagne.

Greats! The music is perfectly suited with the events and periods. I would divide the European history map into 4 periods:
1- The time of ancient civilizations and tribes (before 200 BC)
2-Roman conquest and Pax Romana (200 BC- 400 AD)
3- Fall of Rome, new order arose from Church, Chivalry, Feudal landlords (400 - 1600)
4- Advent of Nation-States, Realism following the 30 years war, modernism ( From 1600)
Now we gotta wait 2000 years for a sequel
The Roman Empire lasted a lot of time! Like, nothing changes in the map is just Rome

great work, especially taking into account constant wars and changes of boarders and kingdoms. We'll need to work on the rest of Europe thou, the blank space looks weird. Surely there were tribes, kingdoms etc in there.
Not so many kingdoms, but there were tribes and they were marked

I love how the eastern Roman Empire still calls itself that for like 5 years before realising they don’t have to Rome anymore
They called themselves roman until their end in 1400s. As they had practically transferred all roman laws and edicts to the new city. Byzantine was never a thing until modern historians began to call them this to keep it simple
@@gjergjcamaj5770 No, it was German historians who started calling them that to distance the empire from Rome so that the HRE would look more official in comparison
