I only have two thumbs! So double thumbs up on the info…. I need to play with this to remember the protocols and such. I’m just starting WinLink, and my Yaesu FT3d. Most of my airtime is on HF using QRP radios afield. Thanks for the video!
Hey Don, keep in mind, the radio needs "APRS messaging" capabilities, I could have been more clear on that. Some of the DMR/grey-market radios claim to support aprs, but they don't support messaging packets.
@@KM6LYW thanks for that. I only have one APRS radio, the Anytone 878UVII+ from a local radio shop. Not sure on the messaging APRS, I won the Bridgecom University videos to set it all up, just have to sit down and go through it all. I have so far got my DMR-ID and Winlink ready to program.... so much to learn in this new hobby!🤔😆
@@DonzLockz Right, I almost mentioned "DMR" -- I don't know of a DMR radio that supports APRS messaging. Hopefully somebody corrects me here. Otherwise it's yaesu and kenwood. icom had a fight with bob bruninga iirc, so no aprs on icom.
I came here as a private pilot. Any help on thinking about using this in my own aircraft while I'm in flight. Clearly this would not be permanently installed in the aircraft since that would require logbook entries and a mechanic.
How were you getting the large symbols/call signs on the TFT display when you were in TNC mode (@2:27 for example)? My display lists one call per line with a super small symbol. Tnx
Great question, there's a secret option to "direwatch", my display driver, of "-o" which indicates to display one station at a time. edit each of the /home/pi/direwolf.*.conf files and add "-o" to the command line wherever you see direwatch.py. You'll then see the large icon, weather data, and position comments.
@@KM6LYW Hi Craig, I didn't see "direwatch.py" in the direwolf.*.conf files but did see it in the direwolf.*.sh files. Added the -o option there and it worked great! Tnx
www.wb7fhc.com/order-nexus-now.html (Fe-Pi board)... or see if you can find an Audio Injector Z. The chip-shortage supply chain crisis is very real. If you have a USB-based radio, an audio board is not required. digipi.org/
I have a question. I have an older Icom moble radio and an antenna at my QTH. I plan on buying a raspberry pi 4b, what other hardware do I need to make a receive only igate ( to include any software)? Any assistance would be appreciated.
Any idea why my pass code won't work? I even reset my Winlink password and verified it via their system but when I do the "L" command to list my messages, it sends me the number to use, I put in the correct characters followed by 3 random ones and it tells me "Invalid Login challenge response" not sure what's going on.
@KM6LYW Radio No, my Winlink password is 11 characters with caps and small letters numbers and a special character. It's set this way on all my Winlink devices VHF and HF.

Very interesting video utilising APRSdroid.
I watch your videos all the time and "Faithfully"...see what I did there😀
Awesome, I really need to play on my Anytone more.🍻👍

@@KM6LYW ak ok, thanks for that. That will have to be a future investment... when I know more on digital modes too. ;) thanks!

Where can I get a sound card for my pi zero so I can make a digipi?

Honestly, i'd get an rtl-sdr usb dongle. $20. Lookup direwollf rtl-sdr igate.

I can't explain that myself. your winlink password is six alphanumeric characters... all upper case? i think you're doing it right.
