Recently, I saw this quote from Francine Jay, "Minimalism is asking yourself why before making a purchase." Since I'm not a minimalist, I changed it up a bit - being furgal is asking yourself why before you buy. That's going to be my matra for 2025. Thanks for all of the great content. Happy New Year!
I remember a lady telling me that her parents decided to pay for the formula for their twins. She was so grateful! I bet it was much better than a load of toys or clothes that would overwhelm them.🌞
The main thing I splurge on is food. But I eat emotionally. If I'm stressed, I eat a snack. If I'm sad, I'll grab some chocolate. If I'm angry or depressed, I'll binge eat a bit. So in 2025, I'm trying to develop a better relationship with food, and not use it to "self medicate" so much. I "treat" myself with unhealthy snacks way too much, instead of working on the issues that trigger this kind of eating. Fast food, snacks, etc, all add up every month, as far as wasting money. I'm pretty good with my finances in general, but I gotta stop wasting money on food items that add no true nutritional value to my health. I've been a sugar addict all my life, and sugar feeds all kinds of cancers, especially in women.
No junk drawer in the kitchen, dedicated a drawer in the office desk, works much better and got an extra kitchen drawer which was needed in our small space
💚Look into reusable silicone bags to replace your zipper bags. They are awesome, I bought mine last year at Aldi and they have held up so well. I have washed them by hand and in the dishwasher with zero issues. I do not use them to store meat though. Great video!
I live about an hour or so from an Amish supermarket. There are parking spots for the horse and buggies! My mother and I take a trip once a year and get herbs and spices in containers that they have purchased in large amounts. The prices are so cheap! The other thing they have that they split up in small amounts are dry goods. Sometimes you need a specialty product but don’t want to buy a large amount. It’s also a discount store so we pick up things that have been reduced because of a packaging change. But only things we use. The area is the closest Target so I tend to stop in there to pick up some things I need. (Do you know how much money I save living that far from a Target?) And then we eat at a restaurant that is local to that area. It’s a nice outing with my mom and we actually save a lot of money.
Thanks for your list. Out of your list, the only thing that we've bought in years is plastic bags. I buy 100 1litre bags for 1.50€ and I split meat/fish from the supermarket. I buy a bag pack a year. I've used the same single leather handbag/purse for over 20 years. Thanks for another great video.
I only buy zip freezer bags. I can reuse some of them and they last much longer. Also, freeze breads, meats, and vegetables and take out only the potion we need. No waste .
Trends - (I'm a minimalist - I wear the same simple outfit every day) how are people even finding out about these "trends"? And why bother wearing something because someone else is wearing it?
Three chicken breasts cut in half make six meals add two potatoes three carrots bunch celery onion add three half chickens water chicken powder makes seven meals the other two half chicken breasts make two chicken sandwiches and two pasta chicken dinners
Love this video! I've been thinking about the new year and what I can stop/start. This year for Christmas I spent so much less--i thought of each person's loves and found cute baskets at thrift stores and personal items for each. Then I made bottom cushions for dead basket and then looked for good sales if I needed to add anything else. I used dollar store ribbons and made some candy and done--everyone loved them! Another thing I'm starting is meal planning. No more takeout unless the cook is sick or it's a celebratory lunch with a loved one! Purses....all of mine are gorgeous Vera Bradley and I've not paid over $6 for each! And all clothes come from thrift stores! No more k cups! My friend gifted me one of those hot water brewers that fit on your cup--the best cup of coffee ever! And grounds go in the compost. We're in our 70s--thinking about funeral pre pay plans....hmmm.....
This video popped up in my feed. I have the same thoughts with candles and souvenirs. We took a vacation in the mountains where I was able to capture amazing pictures. Enjoyed the video!
Instead of Life insurance put the money you would pay in premiums in savings. Use that to look at prepaying for what you want and have it documented (no changeing by relatives). I only by clothes as needed and never dry clean and having items that work for any event.
I love your videos so much. Thank you. I will use almost all the clues mentioned here. Some are for USA people but most are universal for all of us. Thank you and good year for you and your family. Hugs from Poland
Hi Sara, thank you for this video. Regular Fan of your channel here. It had some wonderful tips and you looked so pretty in your holiday set up there. Hope you and your family had a nice Xmas, if you celebrate it.
You definitely want to consider the person and how close you are before doing a Happy Birthday by text. I don’t mind a text myself (I live in a very different time zone than most of my family, so a phone call isn’t always possible), but a Happy Birthday over Facebook is actively annoying to me. Part of it is that I only use Facebook out of necessity, but it also feels performative, like they only said something because other people would see it. A text feels much more personal because it’s just for me, but some people are thrilled to see dozens of people post Happy Birthday messages on social media instead. 🤷♀️
@@lindadenneypu6315 that's why we're "pausing" Netflix. I feel like since we want to keep the Disney and the other one is included w a different service, Netflix is the best one to dump. Especially bc I'm not thrilled w the kids content on Netflix.
I enjoy your videos! Baggallini has a great travel bag.rfid technology and some zippers have locks on them. The strap is one that can't be cut. When you do a search for one add anti theft to your search. They have them on ebay preowned. 😊😊😊
I never buy clothes that you have to iron , let alone dry clean . I try to make anything and everything from scratch as possible , I have made bees wax wraps , haven’t owned plastic wrap for at least 4-5 years , same as paper towel .
I haven't used plastic wrap in years, either. I want to try the beeswax wraps...how long do they last? I use paper towels because I have animals and...paper towels are sometimes better, lol. But I have a huge pile of cleaning rags. Our thrift store gives away bags of clothes that they can't sell. I grab a few and use those, plus I get enough extras to play with my crafts, lol
So where’s your list for those of us who already don’t do any of these? My only exception is with my grandchildren. But even there, I am a thrift store shopper. Several of their holiday gifts are brand new or nearly new thrifted items.
Im so sick of my kids wanting this cereal and that cereal when they still havent finshed whats in the cupboard in the first place and they asked for them
When my kids were young they only got to pick cereals that were on sale, and then the rule was only two boxes open at a time. They had to finish one before another one got opened. Good luck mom.
No life insurance? Some would say this is reckless. At least have a burial policy so your family is not left to foot the bill. This happens all too often, especially for those who aren't earning money from UA-cam.
I do have a burial plan which is very basic. Otherwise than that I agree oops I can't find a bank that will not be charge fee free. So I include it like a bill being disabled it right across the street and it's easier for me to bank. ❤ This video.
Use a credit union. We haven't paid bank fees in 25 years. In the US, credit unions are all around, and joining is not as hard as you may think. Worth calling ones around you, if there are any.

Sugar feeds parasites and fungus/mold as well (which are both related to cancer.) Kudzu helps tremendously with withdrawl/die-off symptoms.
I just use the same purse for everything. If I find a purse I like (I'm picky), I buy two so I have a replacement when the first wears out.
I do this, too! At 46, I know what I like and what I’ll use.
I don't have a junk drawer because I have no junk. It's an all-purpose drawer and use everything in it.
I have an all-purpose drawer too, but I have to admit that things get put in there that I end up using very infrequently and forget they’re there.
Thank you for this comment!! I'm going to start calling our drawer that!
No junk drawer in the kitchen, dedicated a drawer in the office desk, works much better and got an extra kitchen drawer which was needed in our small space
Black t shirt and black slacks- all I need
I have other clothes but when going somewhere - work , dinner etc it’s perfect- hoodies and sweats at home

I agree with you on life insurance... once the house is paid off and the kids are grown, I would rather put that monthly payment into a savings plan.
Good tips, Thank You! I bought some slacks for work, that’s it. I paired down my closet. It was liberating!

Can you tell what brand of coffee cup hot water brewer? I can’t find anything like what you’re describing.
@jenbear8652 it's one that Starbucks used to sell. I've seen ads for Ball brands too. I'll try to add a picture.
This is the one I have for travel: amzn.to/3BPdeeV
Thank you for the good tips on saving money.

You can easily convert your strap to be unable to cut - just open up the seam of the strap, insert a chain, resew the seam. done.
Hopefully will be no spend January and low spend 2925
I agree with all your ideas! I am planning to do the same😊
Thanks for sharing!

Quick text for birthdays? Leaves me cold. Drop me a note, letter. Only cost you a stamp.

Ick. I don't even remember to check my mail. And it's not like I can see it anyway.
My Hubby said I could Pause netflix!! We are paying so much for Disney+
I live 2 blocks from the library and we have prime which includes tv service!
I am trying to not buy anything in January
Is there any way u could cut them back or get rid of some and have one basic package u would save a lot of money

Great video! Lots of really good suggestions. Thank you!! 😁👍🏼

I have one purse.
12:19 I redeemed a free movie ticket from an app, and did the same thing (but "splurged" on a coffee to go and a snack from a mini market).
💯% AGREE👍🏻😃 I already do and don't even miss doing🤔😊 Thanks for sharing 🤗 Happy New Years 🎉

I used to struggle with uncontrolled spending, especially buying things I didn't need just because they were "trendy" or "looked nice".
Wow! Thanks
No more hot mess mode in 2025 for me anymore
Greeting cards will be very few

Make your own list ❤️ figure out what you don’t need to buy for this year that you normally do
The world doesn't rotate around you.

You need to tell them No.

If you build a savings it won't really be a problem.

I don't have bank fees at US Bank. But it could be due to my veteran status.
No souvenir cutting back simplifying everything
No wonder people are broke. If you don't stop and think of the money you are wasting on everything mentioned here.
In 2025 will not be buying candles
Sara ❤❤❤😮😮😮😊😊😊
Need to legalise my will
I make cards so this would make me sad.
🩷💚🩷💚🩷💚
I'm getting rid of wifi. It's a HUGE bill, and I don't need it,
Watch me.
