Cheers for this bud I'd got rough running,un even idle and laboured acceleration.I own a 2003 Mondeo Ghia Estate 2.0ltr petrol auto. I have my own diagnostic tester and got a no:4 cylinder misfire and coil pack issue.Got quoted nearly £200 SOD THAT!,removed code fault, ordered coil pack,ht leads, spark plugs for £80 and an hour of my time. Thanks great video.Tony
retrorestore Well chuffed mate its rear wheel bearings discs and pads next.I notice you have video for this too your a star bud.Mondeo Duratech are underated engines regular oil and filter changes and service items at right mileage things will run forever. You have saved me some cash already.Cheers and iv subscribed.Tony
It is exactly what you said "this could be your problem". But i already buy all things to be sure. 4 plugs platinum 35$, cables 30$, coil 25$. Damn! Expensive. Thanks man. It is usefull video. 👍
thank you 😊 garage wanted to charge me £90 I bought the part for £15 and did the job myself within 5 min thanks to your video. you saved me a lot of money
My Mondeo mk3 petrol zetec engine was running rough only on acceleration. I checked all ignition leads and cylinder 2 wasn't sparking, I replaced the ignition coil pack and it drives like new again. Great video pal 👍
Great video. I had the same issue with mine and I bought an ignition coil and plug leads for £42.99 from ebay and it cured my issue, it only took me about 10 or 15 minutes to do and it was easy.
Thanks mate. I ran into same issue on my Mondeo 2004 and after watching your video, I did replace the ignition coil and it solved the issue. Good explanation with the spring in order to detach the connector from the coil housing.
+David O'Hara Yes, the ignition coil slight misfire doesn't always show up on a diagnostic. It's worth changing as it's a cheap item and easy to change. Cheers Martin
Brilliant video thanks i my mondeo was doing the same thing i changed the spark plugs no change also my whole right side of lights was not working changed the coil and lights work and no judders thanks again saved so much coil pack only cost 30 from euro car parts 👌
The misfires on cold engine is exactly what I'm having. I replaced the ignition leads, but that doesn't seem to have helped at all. Checked the spark plugs and they seem fine so going to try the coil next. Hopefuly that fixes the issue. Thanks for the video, really helpful! :)
We had the MK3 2.0LX Duratec. Ours was very good except it always didn't first time which is an old ford trait lol. I once learned that the Duratec is actually a Mazda L-series engines used in Mazda 6's but badged Duractec by ford. The engines in Mondeo's are bulletproof.
Good video but be aware there are two different MK3 coil packs. one is for 2000-2005 and the other 2005-2007. THEY HAVE DIFFERENT POSITIONS FOR THE HT LEADS. This video is for the earlier coil pack
haha, this happened to mine for a few months before i got annoyed with the juddering a sputtering, it was intermittent but eventually got worse on a regular basis so i got the plugs, dizzy leads, oil and air filter and oil change, only to find out from talk ford it was more likely the coil pack, i got it changed and 3 weeks later it packed in again but it had a years warranty on it, changed it over again and its as good as new with no problems. great vid, if only id have found out sooner, i could have saved loads of hassle and money. now i have to fix the cig lighter/charger coz my 1 yr old son ripped out the charger and it all came apart, the fuse landed in the port and sparks flew out, then it stopped working, hes also broke my hazard switch too, hes a monster. if you know any of the last two problems and can advise, id be very grateful. thanks. Dylan. :)
+retrorestore thanks for the speedy replies, I'm going to try the fuse for the cig lighter, as I say my nearly 2 yrs old son ripped out the charger and it broke the tip of the charger, the entire unit ripped out too, the fuse fell out of the charger and into the actual charge point which caused sparks to fly out, no other charger works in it so it's only going to be the fuse in the glove box or the cig lighter point itself. Have you got any idea on how to take out the hazard switch, I'm hoping I dint have to take of the centre console, again my son broke it, thanks in advance. he's also been banned from the front of my car lol :)

loved your video,I changed my ignition coil thanks to you help, but I now have I think a vacuum leak,my revs are at 2300 rpm and there is a hissing noise can you do a video on Mondeo mk 3duratec
Hi Martin, cracking job once again.Just had the same symptoms and changed the coil pack today will update you on how it goes . Mate thanks so much as your video was great. This was my first DIY on the car. Just a quick question mate? The new coil pack does not click when i place the leads on it where as the old one used to click and you have to pull the leads a bit hard to get it off but the new coil doesnt click and the leads are easy to pull? AJ
Thanks for this post retrorestore. I have a rough-running 1.8 Petrol and by OBD tells me that I have a cylinder 1 misfire, changing the coil pack will be cheaper than getting a garage to look for the fault. As I have 110,000 miles on the car I will also change the leads, this is just in case the old leads are the reason that the coil pack has developed a fault. Not absolutely necessary but a set of leads is only £3 more than another coil pack, and the warranty on the coil pack is void on a high mileage vehicle with original leads, which in my mind indicates that the new leads will help the car last for another 110,000 miles!
I am relieved that it was a simple job, rather than changing sensors and that sort of thing. Your video was a great help. I bet the 6 people who gave you the dislikes are all garage owners who don't like to see their opportunity to rip people off being taken away from them. Keep up the good work.
Hi matey hope you and the family are doing great. I ordered a coil pack with new leads and plugs. It's a revision 2 one made by Delphi and depending on the number of the old coil pack there are three different ways for the leads to be attached. I think the instructions go off the firing order of the pistons but i don't have a clue what they are so i was wondering if you knew the firing order is. Peace
Nice work Martin. You sound a lot better. I think the ignition system is a wasted spark . With the module on the back of the coil pack. A lot cheaper to replace ,than, Individual coil packs . Cheers Pete PS did you have the onion sandwich.
Peter Froud I think the trip to the seaside cleared the cobwebs out Pete,,These coil packs are cheap and it's done the job. Will be picking some onions tomorrow. Cheers Martin
Just a quick question mate? The new coil pack does not click when i place the leads on it where as the old one used to click and you have to pull the leads a bit hard to get it off but the new coil doesnt click and the leads are easy to pull? Car starts and i can see idle is a lot better and i havent taken it for a spin as I have to drive home 30 miles in an hour.So was wondering if the leads would come off? AJ

+Michael Booker Hi Michael The Zetec engine is a petrol engine and will have a coil pack. Diesel engines don't have ignition systems so don't have coil packs Cheers Martin
nice vid having a misfire issue with my 2.0l, changed the plugs and leads which seems to have solved 85% of the problem so yeh next is the coil which i feel much more confident about after watching this. thanks ;-) Am Surprised you never changed the leads tho considering how long the plugs seem to have been in there??
nice video mate,,, a taxi driver hit me recently ,,, after the event I tried to turn the engine on but it didn´t work and the guiding ligths were chasing ,, I thought it was the battery so somebody passed me charge,,, and it worked,,, when I turned off the car and started it again the problem continued ,,, its not the battery cause I have lights,,, it simply don't start and the lights continue chasing its kind of an alarm... how could I possibly reset it ,,, thks in advance,,
I remember changing the pack on my old mk1 v6 mondy, that was a boit of a pain as there wasn't much room. Prior to fitting the symptoms of failure were juddering when any attempt was made to accelerate quickly. Under light load it was OK ish. Then the fuel pump failed afterwards....expensive year that was as the cat also needed replacing....😂
Have a low milage ford fiesta 21,345 on clock when pulling away feels like rubber band attached to rear of car, also while driving losing power for a second then power comes back also revs keep dancing while sitting in nutural. could this be the coil pack ? no error code.. cheers
Maybe that is what is happening with my 2002 Ford Taurus. 60,455 kms and sometimes runs rough in wet weather. Not all the time, sunny days is fine, but sometimes on a damp or rainy day at idle at a stop light a little burp and rough idle, then Okay again. Might be water in the gas tank.

Hard to say, you need to have the fault codes read bud.
Yes the cod are 0302
Check with the Mondeo forum bud. They have all the info as I've sold this Mondeo now.

Do you think changing the coil pack might make a difference? It’s a 2005 model with 76k on the clock. Cheers mate!!!
Hard to say bud, Could be a fuel delivery issue like a lift pump or filter. I would change the fuel filter first.
Amazing how the coil pack was cheaper than the spark plugs
