      It's hard to survive with little to no light, so those animals have to have special adaptions to survive down there

      Not all that impressive actually. If you think about it, it's environment is almost identical to what it was thousands of years ago. The deep sea is rather mundane compared to what lives above when it comes to adaptation.

    All I can say is I am INTRUIGED by these beautiful creatures. I especially love how it's mouth sprouts up from it's jaw and is ready to chop down on it's prey! It really does look like a goblin when it's mouth springs up.

    How the Goblin Shark extends that jaw is AMAZING. Wow wow wow. The power of nature and evolution is incredible. I'm in awe. I also read that they are slow swimmers so they need a fast jaw strike to catch prey.

    That is one of the most horrifying things I've ever seen but there are a few other deep sea fish that make that thing look cute. But what an amazing perfect specimen of efficiency in doing its job which is just instantly killing and eating simultaneously. What an amazing creature great job with that footage wow

    The old imagery of this shark are full with the jaws extended. In reality, it only extend to eat/catch and not extended all the time. Oh what a great ruse.

      Except those who are fast enough to dodge it. Goblin sharks are extremely slow and sluggish swimmers, but they're effective predators nonetheless. Those slingshot jaws help it catch prey much faster than itself, which is entirely necessary in a place where no light exists. Speed both is and is not a factor. Swimming away from a predator or towards a prey animal is difficult to do, but fast jaws are there to catch faster prey. Getting out of the way of those jaws may be possible, but it is very difficult.

    I wonder, since they live in the deep sea I imagine they don’t rely much on vision. Does the shape of the nose somehow benefit their sense of smell? And do they have ampulla of lorenzini like other sharks?
