I absolutely agree with you. I don’t think it was a writing mistake, but as you said, I think it’s part of his character and they’ll probably address this flaw of his in the future. Who knows, maybe this nonchalance of his will cause some conflicts between him and Liko, and this will be when Roy realises that maybe he needs to be less selfish

I think Roy has shown lack of empathy ever since we saw him in some small parts. Jumping to conclusions about wanting to become partners with fuecoco. As far as to sneak into the brave asagi. And as for the grandpa. He himself said that Roy only thought about his dream until he met fuecoco. I think the empathy part will grow. Maybe we will see him being utterly crushed one day by a loss or someone getting angry at him or both. could be powerful to see him deal with that.
I agree with the problem of Roy being nieve to Brasseus's feelings, but I would not worry about it moving forward bc in past episodes Roy showed a lot of empathy and emotional understanding like in the previous episode where he was the one who realized that spriggatito was jealous of Liko's dog pokemon
I am okay with Roy not feeling empathetic to Brassius artist block because unlike Nemona he doesn't have any personal connection with him and unlike Liko has no personal experience with this type of behavior so of course Roy can't empathize him on that level.
I mean even if I don't know a person at all, I would at least feel a little bit sad if I would see them being unhappy. But just like many comments mentioned: maybe this is a result of Roy only caring about his own desires in the past and now thanks to both the Brassius incident and Fuecocos dream, he will learn to actually care about others as well.
I hope we keep this format of doing unofficial gym battles because I feel gym battles are too heavily tied to league. Why can't we do gym battles for fun
That would be kinda cool but if I remember correctly, you kinda have to do gym battles so that you can enter the whole champion ranking system of paldea.
Others have stated it as well, but I'm pretty sure Roy's lack of empathy here is intentional. Yeah, it does make him a bit insufferable, especially during that moment, but it emphasizes a major flaw with him. Roy has only ever cared about his own goals and dreams, the first time he ever gave a care about someone else's dreams was when he met Fuecoco and his desire to be like Charizard. One step in the right direction, but Roy is still tunnel visioned and lacks empathy, which I think can make for a nice character arc for him, especially since now it's not just about him and his goals anymore. It's about Fuecoco. It's about Liko. It's about everyone else in the Rising Volt Tacklers. He's not in this journey by himself, so he can't afford to keep this lack of empathy forever. It's a flaw that if handled right, could be a spectacular character arc.
As expected, Pokemon Horizion is slowly transitioning Roy into a battle centric trainer, with having Nemona goad him into competing in gym challenges, and with brassius taking an interest in Roy's resolve to battle Rayquza. Since Liko doesn't show a competitive passion for pokemon battles, it likely she will be sidelined in pokemon battle competition, as thatwill be mostly Roy's strong suit. Since, Pokemon was originally tailored toward male audiences of age 10, its expected that Roy would have to stand out more as a charismatic character by having him catch strong pokemon and constantly partake in strong challenges, like battling legendary pokemon and talented trainers.
I guess Roy is starting to show he can only win battles against wild pokemon than against trainers as he's now 0 for 2 in real official battles. (I mean at Roy's start with his "gym leader battle," it was showing he's even more clueless in battles than Ash was at his start) * - And You've gotta give props to Nemona for being Champion-ranked while her Partner~Ace is still only as Pawmo
He was never going to be able to win with a fuecoco the just knows ember and tackle anyway. Nemona is known to restart a lot so who knows if Pawmo is her ace.

And for what we already know, Nemona's constant pokemon members on her team have always been Pawmot, Lycanroc, Goodra, Dudunsparce, & Orthworm (Plus Pawmot is always with Nemona in her room in the overworld). The Pokemon Website says she also seems to own a Lechonk & Smoliv, but we never seem them and it's only stated in text. And we also know from the opening scene of the games has her training with a Combat Tauros. Due to all Paldean Starters have been taken in Horizons, maybe Paldean Tauros will fill Nemona's last team spot. Plus having it could somewhat help stabilize her as half of Nemona's pokemon team all share a weakness to Fighting types; so going toe-to-toe with VS Fighting Fighters isn't a bad idea
I think in the games nemona actually has way stronger pokemkn, but then uses weaker one to give the new trainers some chance and also that she can experience the thrill of a close competition... Because Nemo just LOVES battling that much that she would purposefully handicap herself

Brassius is pretty popular, tho probably more for the female fans. (He's delightfully weird.) And Nemona does show up in the preview for next episode, hopefully she gets more screentime.

I would feel sorry for the gym leaders. Battle junkies are the most insane people ever, with them trying everything possible to be at huge disadvantages so that it becomes more exciting of a battle

Regarding what you said about Roy, I interpreted what happened with Brassius differently, which is also my big issue with the episode. When Roy said, how awesome Rayquaza is, I thought that he was complementing the Rayquaza sculpture Brassius made. But it really felt like the episode wanted to say "don't worry, if someone has an artist slump (or whatever it was called) just tell them how great their art is, and soon all will be better!" Which is _not_ how that works, _at all_ . But after they had Roy say that Rayquaza was his first step into his Journey I thought, "hm, interesting. So are they implying that Brassius will Not lose hope with Rayquaza, because all His faliours are just his first step into something great?" But No, they dropped that, and after the Gym battle basically forgot about that whole plot. How I think they could still do is, since Roy was so disregarding towards Brassius, that they'll reflect that in next weeks episode, where He has to learn to better listen to Olithena, or something. So far it seemed Like the episode will focus more on Liko though, but it still could happen. Other than that, I still enjoyed the Episode.
What is Terastal like in the anime compared to the games also what's it like compared to Mega Evolution, Z moves and Gigantamax? It's sad that Ash isn't around to try this out but it would be awesome if Liko and Roy were doing this
I absolutely loved this episode, especially since it gave us the anime debut of Nemona. Plus, I really enjoyed the battle between Roy and Brassius. Roy's Fuecoco learning Stomping Tantrum was a great sign of their development, and it was so beautiful seeing the Terastral Phenomenon in the anime for the first time. I'm giving this episode a 10/10.
I wonder how the gyms and the regional league is going to fit into this anime? Whether or not the protagonists really are going to take on the league, and who it would be doing so?
You guys complaining about Roy when he acts like Ash used to in early season 1. Only cares about Pokémon as a game or the like even when something more serious is going on. I.E when Ash literally said "We would've won if Pikachu tried hard enough!" after Pikachu got bodied by Surge's Raichu. Ash was completely ignorant to the emotions of another being, that being Pikachu until Misty and Brock told him in simple terms. Just like Roy, Ash also knew nothing about type matchups early on and just sought to brute force everything. Remember him using Pikachu and Pidgeotto against Brock amd refusing Misty's help? What I want to know is, how can you guys and Ranger not like Roy when he's just like Ash used to be at that stage. Oh, I and I know Ranger has to like Ash, he's the channel mascot.
I just realized liko and Roy are ash's personality split in to two liko is ash's smart side the side that know battle strategies the side that empathizes for other people's struggles and the side that will help chier people up as best as he can and Roy is he's enthusiastic side the side that's Hard headed Tha side of ash that was funny but that's just my opinion

I really don't like Roy in this series and I don't think I ever will. He's a complete novice when it comes to Pokémon battles, he can't tell the difference in Pokémon types. I was laughing at his battle against Brassius. One thing that really pissed me off is that Roy thinks that slump is a Pokémon, I mean how dumb can that kid really be excatly? It was really nice to see Nemona, but serious, doesn't she know about personal space?
This episode's ratio of Nemo-battling to not-Nemo-Battling scenes was way off for my taste, hope she turns up a lot more often and we get at least some proper battles ... because yeah, of course Roy can't beat a Gym Leader. The one thing that annoyed me was that the series keeps throwing around the "Champion"-Title, reminds me how Journeys desecrated it T.T But that's not her fault. Also the series continues with these half-baked throughlines ... like, the battle was for Roy to show if he's worthy to search for Rayquaza ... and then he lost hardcore, but apparently that doesn't matter? And again, what's the plan if he finds it?! Also, the Terra-whatever-mechanic has some potential to be interesting, and definitely is better than Gigantamax... but it looks SO freaking stupid. And in this battle it felt like "Hey, this is a thing now!", but it was totally unneccessary, it just changed the elemental disadvantage against one attack into one against another attack ... maybe it powered up the grass-attack, but another stone throw would have been way more effective. Could they really not come up with a better situation? Or, you know, just don't do it? That being said, there were some neat moments, most of all Nemo, but the battle had some neat animations, and I liked Liko using her knowledge of her Partner's behaviour to find more Himawari ... but overall the quality of the series is still a very mixed bag.
Don't like how Liko and Roy have similar characteristics compared to Goh and Chloe. What I worry the most is that Liko might become sidelined whilst Roy takes most screen time. Roy at this point seems like he is going to be a Ash/Goh 2.0. Also I really think this series is over hyped by others.
@@raiaanahmed8804 If they do a better version of those 2 I'm on board, but yeah, so far Roy's story ist just as nonsensical as Gou's, combined with the most generic traits of Ash. And Liko's story really needs to get into gears soon. Would be a sad waste if she'd be the next forever aimless Pokegirl. I thought something would happen in Paldea, but so far it's more Roy's story again ... The series is definitely not great so far, and constantly teeters on the edge of being less than mediocre.
@@luard8047 A weird recurring pattern with pokegirls being wasted like with Mallow and Chloe. Liko better not fall to this pattern. So far the series has some noticeable issues with : both main characters winning against the Explorers such as Fuecoco beating Rhydon with Ember; weird drop in animation quality; character development so far is quite wonky. Pretty mediocre introduction to be honest.
I really do hope so, too. So far from what we have seen from Nemo, I really like her a lot and like I said in my review: hopefully this unusually short amount of screen time means that she will be more focused on in later episodes and maybe they will dedicate an entire arc towards her, the school, the whole champion ranking system etc. (and yeah I do agree in terms of Jn just ruining the overall aura of all the champions we had before even though ash as a "champion" never really had a champion aura to begin with and even after winning alola he still felt the same.) Yeah that was kinda weird since it was a test of strength and seeing how Roy had no chance at all, it's kinda weird how Brassius just helps him further reaching Rayquaza even though he really isn't ready yet. The most basic thing I can come up with is that he will train his pokemon to their max potential and then will try to face rayquaza so that he can catch it with the ancient pokeball. But that sounds.... Well..... Kinda generic which is my overall issue with him. But at least there seems to be a pretty interesting character arc with Roy only concentrating on his own goal and showing no empathy towards the interests of the people surrounding him. Hopefully he will start to develop and actually care more about the people in his environment. So that's so far the only thing that keeps me interest in the guy, because his Goa is still so... Meh. It's kinda funny that you had that reaction in regards of Tera, because most fans of the games reacted the same way: the concept is cool, but the design is just horrific xD And it was mentioned that it actually powers up his grass type move (in this case Trailblaze) and I interpreted him using Tera just as a sign of aknowledging that Roy seems to have an innate talent as a trainer and that's why he used that move out of respect. Haha agreed maybe that's why I was able to talk so much about Nemo besides her screen time being 5 min. at max! Right from the get go she seems to be a super interesting, likeable and charismatic character. I also loved Liko in this episode and she did have some nice moments. I do hope that we will get some more significant moments of her on terms of story very soon.

Yes they are and I actually have an amv in the works right now. Problem is that I have to arrange some things with few of my fave artists first before I can actually do the amv though so it will probably take a while sorry 😅

I really don't like Roy in this series and I don't think I ever will. He's a complete novice when it comes to Pokémon battles, he can't tell the difference in Pokémon types. I was laughing at his battle against Brassius. One thing that really pissed me off is that Roy thinks that slump is a Pokémon, I mean how dumb can that kid really be excatly? It was really nice to see Nemona, but serious, doesn't she know about personal space?

This episode's ratio of Nemo-battling to not-Nemo-Battling scenes was way off for my taste, hope she turns up a lot more often and we get at least some proper battles ... because yeah, of course Roy can't beat a Gym Leader.
The one thing that annoyed me was that the series keeps throwing around the "Champion"-Title, reminds me how Journeys desecrated it T.T But that's not her fault.
Also the series continues with these half-baked throughlines ... like, the battle was for Roy to show if he's worthy to search for Rayquaza ... and then he lost hardcore, but apparently that doesn't matter?
And again, what's the plan if he finds it?!
Also, the Terra-whatever-mechanic has some potential to be interesting, and definitely is better than Gigantamax... but it looks SO freaking stupid.
And in this battle it felt like "Hey, this is a thing now!", but it was totally unneccessary, it just changed the elemental disadvantage against one attack into one against another attack ... maybe it powered up the grass-attack, but another stone throw would have been way more effective.
Could they really not come up with a better situation? Or, you know, just don't do it?
That being said, there were some neat moments, most of all Nemo, but the battle had some neat animations, and I liked Liko using her knowledge of her Partner's behaviour to find more Himawari ... but overall the quality of the series is still a very mixed bag.
Don't like how Liko and Roy have similar characteristics compared to Goh and Chloe. What I worry the most is that Liko might become sidelined whilst Roy takes most screen time. Roy at this point seems like he is going to be a Ash/Goh 2.0. Also I really think this series is over hyped by others.

If they do a better version of those 2 I'm on board, but yeah, so far Roy's story ist just as nonsensical as Gou's, combined with the most generic traits of Ash.
And Liko's story really needs to get into gears soon. Would be a sad waste if she'd be the next forever aimless Pokegirl. I thought something would happen in Paldea, but so far it's more Roy's story again ...
The series is definitely not great so far, and constantly teeters on the edge of being less than mediocre.
@@luard8047 A weird recurring pattern with pokegirls being wasted like with Mallow and Chloe. Liko better not fall to this pattern. So far the series has some noticeable issues with : both main characters winning against the Explorers such as Fuecoco beating Rhydon with Ember; weird drop in animation quality; character development so far is quite wonky. Pretty mediocre introduction to be honest.
I really do hope so, too. So far from what we have seen from Nemo, I really like her a lot and like I said in my review: hopefully this unusually short amount of screen time means that she will be more focused on in later episodes and maybe they will dedicate an entire arc towards her, the school, the whole champion ranking system etc. (and yeah I do agree in terms of Jn just ruining the overall aura of all the champions we had before even though ash as a "champion" never really had a champion aura to begin with and even after winning alola he still felt the same.)
Yeah that was kinda weird since it was a test of strength and seeing how Roy had no chance at all, it's kinda weird how Brassius just helps him further reaching Rayquaza even though he really isn't ready yet. The most basic thing I can come up with is that he will train his pokemon to their max potential and then will try to face rayquaza so that he can catch it with the ancient pokeball. But that sounds.... Well..... Kinda generic which is my overall issue with him.
But at least there seems to be a pretty interesting character arc with Roy only concentrating on his own goal and showing no empathy towards the interests of the people surrounding him. Hopefully he will start to develop and actually care more about the people in his environment. So that's so far the only thing that keeps me interest in the guy, because his Goa is still so... Meh.
It's kinda funny that you had that reaction in regards of Tera, because most fans of the games reacted the same way: the concept is cool, but the design is just horrific xD
And it was mentioned that it actually powers up his grass type move (in this case Trailblaze) and I interpreted him using Tera just as a sign of aknowledging that Roy seems to have an innate talent as a trainer and that's why he used that move out of respect.
Haha agreed maybe that's why I was able to talk so much about Nemo besides her screen time being 5 min. at max! Right from the get go she seems to be a super interesting, likeable and charismatic character. I also loved Liko in this episode and she did have some nice moments. I do hope that we will get some more significant moments of her on terms of story very soon.
