I cannot believe I vidded this.
I can count on one hand the number of films edits on my channel. I rarely vid films, partly because I'm not as inspired by them as I am by tv shows, and partly because I find them harder to work with for some reason. (?)
But whoops, here we are.
I'm pretty unsure about this video. As I said, I'm a bit rusty with vidding films and I think it shows.
Nevertheless, I gave it a try because why the hell not.
As much as I love very shipp-y (is that an adjective) videos that focus exclusively on shared moments, dialogues ect, I appreciate it even more when a ship video manages to include some degree of character study. Something that shows who person x is, individually, & not just the way they combine with person y
So that's what I tried to do here.
Incorporating a bit of Charles' and Erik's widely different worldviews and values, as influenced by their opposite upbringings & life experiences. All of which, of course, play a great part in how they interact, how they come together over the years only to clash and part ways (sigh).
verse 1 is more from Erik's pov, verse 2 is mainly Charles',
but lmao it's so difficult to adapt the lyrics to one perspective alone, I tried my best.

Okay, I know some people hate having videos/texts/poetry ect. explained to them, and I'm all about open interpretation myself (where's THE FUN, otherwise), but I do love to explain/explore the creative process behind something. I cannot shut the hell up
The reason I included Erik's family (mainly the kid) is because that portion of his life - a quiet secluded peaceful life - was somehow Charles' ⁓ dream for him. When he told Erik there was more to him than just pain, that was exactly what he meant. That's Erik "trying"
... and then, of course, losing everything. Again
(and damn if that scene in the woods in Apocalypse didn't match the beach scene in FC. Honestly. Erik's loved ones taken down by stray bullets/arrows. why is this cruelty necessary, smh)
So on one hand, you've got Erik raging and closing himself off. And on the other hand, Charles reaching out to him times and again in a way that only his telepathy and the empathy that comes with it can allow.
It's a pretty painful combination, Charles being the person who gets Erik the most and yet never in the position to side with Erik's views or support his choices. It's that thin line between understanding someone's motives, and agreeing with their methods.
& that's why Erik doesn't stay. The gap between them is too great.
Charles might use everything in his power trying to get to Erik (everything BUT forcing Erik to stay against his will, not when Erik has spent so much of his life being held against his will) but ultimately Charles' efforts are 'not enough' as the song goes.
But then again, when memories of the good old times with your pal flood your brain, make you cry and stop you from committing mass murder on a global scale, well ... That must count for something.
I couldn't stop crying after 2:23. It's so big and overwhelming wave of emotions.
All feelings are rising slowly throughout the video and then ... *bam*.
I love all the parallels you showed us, it's explains a lot of things, which someone does not noticed until now. I'm sure, that even a person, who never watched xmen will see it and ... understand everything.
This video like no other video i know. It brings something new in a perception.

the bit of conversation when charles says 'you've just forgotten' to remind erik he wasn't always alone, that charles was there for him way back when uGH and erik going 'no, i remember' meaning that he /does/ know that, but he also cannot let go all the bad things that he had to go through. he means he's scarred for life, and there's no going back from that. not matter how much he might want to

This video could not have been more perfectly timed for me, I just finished rewatching the trilogy and got overwhelmed with feels for these two and their relationship (and crying over twitter about them as well). Their connection is so deep and the new trilogy did such a BRILLIANT job of showing their friendship but especially did a great job of showing Erik's story and that's exactly what you've done in this video. You've shown that no matter what Erik does and how far down a path of destruction he may be, Charles is always the one who believes in him and believes he can do the right thing and brings him back to a sense of reality. The end segment of this video was particularly brilliant, showing all the agony of Erik and all the guilt that he carries for his family and for what happened to Charles as well and how Charles knows about that guilt that he carries and still tries to bring him down the 'right' path.
I'm just so emotional over them and to see a (as always wonderful) video from you for them literally the same day is too much so thank you for this!

I was just chilling, watching Apocalypse for the first time at home, & suddenly i found myself drowing in emotions I hadn't asked for. So i went back to FC and rewatched the whole thing. Amazing.
"Just because someone stumbles and loses their path, doesn't mean they're lost forever." If that isnt Charles in a nutshell I dont know what is. I so wanted to include this quote, damn it.
And Erik knows. Deep down he knows /that/ is fundamentally what Charles believes, and that it applies to him, and that he's got a chance if ever wants to take it. The bit in Apocalypse when he starts remembering BROKE ME. What even. I wasnt prepared, GOD.

WIRWENxx I literally just watched apocalypse today and that montage KILLED ME?! Like the thing that stayed Erik's hand was A FREAKING MONTAGE INSIDE HIS OWN HEAD OF HIM AND CHARLES WHAT EVEN?!? Also, Erik doesn't stop when others are being threatened but as soon as Apocalypse approaches Charles, he's like "Erm, NOPE DONT YOU DARE!" which you also showed as well at the end. IM JUST SO COMPROMISED AND IM SO HAPPY YOU MADE THIS HONESTLY! That's what I call a happy coincidence!

Beautiful vid, beautiful cover of this song. Captures perfectly the intensity and heartbreak that is this pairing and their history. Hurts so good! I honestly did not remember McKellen!Magneto doing that two-finger telepath move (always thought it was invented by McAvoy) and it connects their incarnations so well, especially that it's Erik doing a gesture so reminiscent of Charles. I literally gasped at that part! And for some reason I will always love Erik stopping Apocalypse by forming a metal X basically in Charles' name
