    does it plug directly into the EG4 battery if you don't want to use the PV independent option and buy the extra panels with it ?

      It doesn't plug directly into the 48V batteries, but it can be run off an inverter powered by the batteries. This is how we use it when the sun isn't shining.

    I got the 9k mini split, not powered by panels directly, but it has a SEER2 rating of 29, which seems impossible. Hope to get it hooked up in the next month or two.

    I have seen many videos of DIY mini splits installation but no one mentions if a city permit is required or something about the construction codes and I think they should do it either for the installation of a mini split ac or the solar panels.Sorry its just my opinion

    I BEEN RUNNING MINE SINCE MARCH 2024. I IT WAS A EASY INSTALL ME AND MY 10 YR OLD SON DID THE JOB WITH NO PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT GOT THE SOLAR PANELS YET. I'M PLANNING ON THAT BY JUNE OR JULY. GREAT VIDEO. ONE PROBLEM I HAVE WITH THE SYSTEM IS THAT THE FAN INDOOR FAN RUNS ALL THE TIME. IT DOES NOT CYCLE COMPLETELY OFF. IT RUNS AT LOW CFM'S AT 45WATTS. THATS PRETTY LOW BUT THATS ALWAYS PULLING POWER AND A WEAR ON THE FAN MOTOR.

    Why are you even using AK power?
    Solar is DK Power, Batteries are DK Power, & All Your Applianses Are DK Power………. Your Airkonditioner, Your Fone, Your Komputer, Your Kamera You Are Filming This With…….. Your TV ALL run on DK Power so WHY on Earth should you have AK Power……. Absolutely No Sense.
    Even Transmitting Power Long Distanse is More Effisient in HVDK than it is in AK Power……..

    Can chat or Rexas Homestad point me towards a video that explains if 10,000 kWs is enough to work remote? I'd like to move remote in the next 3 years, but I will need to continue to work from home, Starlink+Wifi+ basic PC, 5 days a week. I know I can charge the batteries with a generator. I'm just trying to figure out if I should go bigger since I'd like to have a freezer for storage and a tiny fridge. I can do darn near everything, I just never learned electrical and now I'm swamped with so much information. Like in this video you have THREE EG4 6000XP I was looking into thinking I need 1 (600-700 sq ft home I plan to build)... this video just destroyed my brain lol. Thank you.

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  4 місяці тому

      Lol, sorry for the confusion. We have a four-bedroom home with at least four deep freezers and lots of children running in and out, and we host people all the time with an outbuilding, and I work from home. We use a ton of electricity. Probably way more than we need! The best thing to do is look up how much electricity you use. I would convert everything to watts. It’s just easier to work that way.
      A good example is that a fridge typically takes about 800 W. A standard window unit for a space the size you’re talking about runs around 1000 W continuously. If I remember correctly, the Router is 50 to 100, and Starlink is 150. 10,000 W system would do fine for what you’re. Just remember that things like water heaters, traditional ovens, and air conditioners take a lot of energy. The first two are around 5000 W each. We wanted to build our system so that we could run the water heater well pump, have all the air conditioners going, and cook dinner at the same time without having to think about it. Just make sure that your system can scale if you ever want to do so. Best of luck, and let me know if you have any questions!

    @EK--ry3lr 4 місяці тому

    I might be wrong but I don't think SEER ratings are linear, so even if your window unit was 10 SEER it won't actually be twice as efficient. But still really cool. See what I did there? Cool 😎

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  4 місяці тому +1

      You're probably right but the reason I say twice as efficient is due to the amount of watts my current (WU) unit uses to put out 16K BTU vs the mini-splits (MS) 24K BTU. The WU pulls over 4500w and the MS has a max of 3500w.
      If my math is correct, we're looking at the following efficiency in how many BTUs we get per watt.
      The Window Unit: 3.55 BTU / Watt
      The Mini Split: 6.85 BTU / Watt
      This is almost twice as much cooling power per energy unit in.
      I'm just a web developer so please check my math 😎

    Regardless of the inout power type, you guys are gonna love having a mini split! We have nothing but mini splits. Very efficient, very quiet. You can crank them up and theyll freeze you out (window unit style) or have them set on the thermostat like a central setup. Theyre not the greatest in winter and not the worst. A word of advice: i wouldnt put the outside unit on a north facing wall (the temp sensor will make the unit think the outside coil is frozen during higher winds and lower temps resulting in frequent defrost cycles even in temps as high as 45 degrees, ask me how i know!)

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  4 місяці тому

      Hey hjkh, thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, this one is going on the north wall. Hopefully it won’t be too big of a deal with this unit. I’m pretty excited about it either way!

      @@EastTexasHomestead something i had considered was a small "wall", wood fence maybe. That was a few feet in front of the outside coil to act as a wind break but still allow enough flow to account for our lovely texas summers. Either way, im glad to see yall getting an upgrade! If you dont mind me asking, how much does this unit cost? I could see it being a wonderful asset to a shed house

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  4 місяці тому

      I may have to rig something like that up. Thanks for the suggestion. EG4 has several options and sizes. The smallest 9K BYU is $1299 and at the top end is the 24K BTU the we have. It is $1899 right now before the current discount and $50 bucks off for using my discount code. They’re not inexpensive but considering our ac never turns off, it should pay for itself quick.

    Church on Saturday? Second time I've heard this.

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  Місяць тому

      Like everyone else, I grew up with Church on Sunday and being told it was the Lord’s Day. But after reading the entire Bible from front to back many times, there is no indication that the 4th of the 10 Commandments was ever changed or done away with. If we, as Christians, believe the 10 commandments are important, and we do, then why don’t we keep the 4th (remember the Sabbath and keep it set apart)? It appears that several hundred years after Christ rose from the dead, the church wanted nothing to do with the Jews and the Sabbath was “to Jewish” so they officially declared Sunday The Lord’s Day and banned people from resting on the day the God said to. Church on Sunday is a tradition of man.

    • @kewlztertc5386
      @kewlztertc5386 Місяць тому

      @EastTexasHomestead one more question.
      How do you know that Saturday is Saturday?
      5k years ago there were no calendars.
      You can tell the seasons from the stars, perhaps even the month, but how do you discern the day?
      Holy men walked from land to land, where people spoke different languages and had very different names for days. All that walking makes a person tired. Oversleep, and you think it's Tuesday when it's actually Friday.
      Maybe the actual day isn't so important, so long as it's the seventh (after 6 in row)?

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  Місяць тому

      Great question. For as long as history goes back, the day we know as Saturday has been the 7th day. The calendar has changed but no one Chan show that the 7 day cycle has changed. If one person gets confused and then rejoins the the rest of society that isn’t confused, they can be at straight

      @EastTexasHomestead society? Post flood, Mount Siani, golden calf society of about a hundred of Noah's descendants?
      It's possible, six Days of debauchery, and drinking, then mental clarity of the day of the week.
      But there must have been a way that's been lost to time.

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  Місяць тому +1

      @@kewlztertc5386 No doubt. It's possible that we've lost the 7th day as a collective people. However, for those who are counting, Saturday is the 7th and the Church would say so. Then, they would say that the "Christian Sabbath" is on the 1st day (Sunday). I don't claim to know 100% that what we call the 7th day is the original, but it's all we have to go on, and if the facts change, I'll change with them. But to say that I'm going to practice a half-hearted sabbath on Sunday because that's what the Pope said, despite scripture, and pretend that it was changed to Sunday is just flat out wrong.

    QUESTION: Can the mini split run strictly off of solar, when sun is available. And when sun is not sufficient it will just shit off. Then when sun is back up, can it automatically start back up, with the last know settings.
    Such that, it could be used on a small barn (completely off grid), and as sun comes up each day, it will create air cond, or heat, until the sun goes down. Then the next day when sun is available it will automatically start heating or cooling at same settings, without any user intervention?

      Inverter mini splits are ideal HVAC for solar systems as they ramp up power slowly and don’t have the high lock rotor amps that traditional central air con units deal with. The question to answer is, does the direct DC/PV input generate enough savings to justify the additional $4-600 in cost vs a typical 2 ton mini-split?? I don’t know, but it’d be cool if you can test it and find out! ☀️⚡️🔋🏠
