Mark, thank you for a great video. Your knowledge of sawing lumber is mind-blowing!!!.Thanks for the video. Also I can't wait to see you back at the shop again this year. Best regards Alan from the 🇬🇧 Uk
I think you guys have been pretty fortunate, in terms of grade, with that load of cherry logs. I remember in the past when good cherry logs weren't that common. These have been surprising free of red rot, which has got to help.
Those really were nice straight logs. Sweet boards cut there. Good way to start the new Year. I'm excited as to what will be in store this year besides retirement!! Party time at the mill!!
Thank you I kinda feel like I'm running it the way you showed the video I have a small mini sawmill that is 8 ft with conveyor it is used for bird houses and doll house furniture

I don't know what is more satisfying, sawing a great cherry log or sawing a great black walnut log. Happy New Year to the entire sawing crew. Here's to continued success is 2025.
For Eddy, don't let them tell you that unloading isn't hard heavy work. I ran an edger in a production pine mill for a few months. Controlling the saws for each board with the hand controller, while moving any wood to set up the Indeed chain with the other is very hard. I salute you I was in my thirties not your age. Good work.
I know how you despise the pith, you fight with it a lot, even go as far as to box it. Coming to blows is never the answer. You go to great lengths to avoid it so, I hope you had a very merry pith-miss.
Not sure if others might find it somewhat boring, or if maybe there might already be a previous episode on the subject, but I’d be interested if you could maybe spend a minute or two someday to go over the actual blade. Like a mini tutorial on its design, maintenance, care, and control. I’m sure they cost more than $10, and you really don’t want to damage or compromise its performance through neglect or inadvertent errors.
One o’clock in the morning happy new year nice grain in them boards, just back in after a five minute job that took six hours having a brandy coffee well I’m on my third one watching you anyway have a nice day
This is how we reduced the motor noise to near zero db. We moved the motor about 40 feet away from the saw. We used a 40-foot, hollow metal drive shaft that ran from the motor to the saw. I will use your sawmill as an example to explain in more detail. Just for the sake of communications, the sawyer faces north at your sawmill. The motor is located 40 feet north. The drive shaft runs from the motor, under the carriage, and, about 4 feet below the saw, and, about 5 feet south of the saw. A drive pulley with belts is located on this drive shaft. Yes, we had to locate the drive shaft below the ground level with the sawmill in place. Yes, it would have been easier if we installed the drive shaft before setting up the sawmill. We also used a exhaust muffler and exhaust pipe system that is very quite so the db level from the motor exhaust is near zero. These mods have been worth it. It is much quieter in the sawmill building. It cleared up space where the motor was located. The sawyer has total visibility to the left.
😊😊 HI MARK the 1ST /2 red cherry 🍒 😊 logs look very good 👍 😊they should've been bigger than what they were U could've sawed alot more lumber out of them still some good 👍 😊 lumber OMG 1 2 2O25

I just stumbled upon your channel yesterday and enjoy watching the breakdown of the large logs. No criticism but I and maybe some other viewers would like to see how you finish up the large boards after you saw them off the large log.
welcome to our channel David , we run the wide boards thru the edger to square up the edges . I just built a bar for my son out of a live edge slab from spalted sycamore a few videos back.
Some one made a disparaging remark about ZZ , but I have noticed that he is always ready to pitch in , in any part of the operation of the sawmill ,even running the bus motor when Eddie is away
I've been watching you saw a lot of cherry logs but haven't seen any red rot. Things that make you go Hmm? You may think those 4" boards are crappy but that's just what I want for my sailboat project.

Mark, between you and Eddy a Hank camera (Hank cam). You both have show the great team work but you see Hank waiting for someone to use your chop saw. But you don’t really see him stacking the wood. Your second camera up in the air at the end of the building aimed down. Or where the “Ironing boards” are. Just an idea. How’s the sawdust pile. Haven’t seen an up date on how full is it? I love the look of cherry so if that’s what you’re cutting it’s ok by me. Any wood is great to watch.
thanks Peter , I have done many different camera angles in the past some people like them. It is harder to run multilabel cameras in the cold weather because the batteries run down very fast , I will have more coming up in the spring.
Would it help any if you painted the side of the #1 knee yellow, Mark? That would give Eddie a better reference than the taper if it's not vertical. Bill

In episode 459 he installs a new blade and lines it up, The second half of #513 he goes over sharpening the inserts :)

That first log looks like the cherry we have here in north central Missouri. Gets about 12” or so then red rots in the center till it falls over :(
Looks really nice at Cherrywood. Does you gotta do a really good job on cutting?
thanks Pat.
Hey Mark love yours and Ed's videos. Was wondering if you grease or lubricate that cable that operates the trolley? It gets quite the workout
thanks Craig , no I don't oil the cable because it will attract sawdust and dirt that will wear the cable out faster.
Mark can the lumber that comes off the mill be used right away or does it need to be dried?
Absolutely should dry it! Otherwise it will warp, twist, and crack as it dries. Especially around any knots which will hold it longer.
Have you ever cut some 2” pieces of the cheery for spindles ? H. N. Y. God Bless 🇨🇦✌️
we do saw some thick pieces for table tops and turning wood.
Don't spill any cocoa at the mill. You don't want chocolate-covered cherry. 🍒
