And there are cases where the color schemes chosen for the anime had contribution from the author. An example of colors chosen for the manga that were wrong were shirahoshi and reiju having blond hair. And when it comes to for example, mihawk when Oda drew him as a kid, he did have yellow eyes in the colored version tho

The thing for me when it comes to these particular Straw Hat's tans is that given Robin is based of Russian ethnicity and Zoro is based of Japanese ethnicity, it makes sense for them to have lighter skin tones then what they were originally portrayed with, and is not whitewashing. But Usopp, he's based of African ethnicity, and thus he's often portrayed too light toned, and that is definitely whitewashing. That's why I don't like the grouping of those, and why it always confuses me people get so hung up on Robin mainly when Usopp should be the darker one.
The red eyes may be vital to the story though. Imu has the same eyes and based on the epithet "Hawk Eyes", we can assume he has good observation haki. The red eyes may be an effect of observation haki to the highest degree. Which is why when Shanks used his future sight his eyes turned red for a glimpse. I'm just sayin

This community has made me hate characters which I didn't hate before and made me love characters that they hate. I liked Zoro a lot. Then I got familiar with community and seeing all the meatriders I now have no affection for Zoro. I didn't like akainu much at first but seeing how everyone hated him, I liked him more and more. It's best to stay away from this community and enjoy one piece on your own.

I completely don't understand this controversy. Toei anime isn't canon. Live action isn't canon. Wit anime won't be canon. The only canon is manga and its colors. Mihawk has red eyes. Law has golden eyes (why, Toei? - it would look so badass). Robin has brown ones. Almost every character (Robin, Usopp and Zoro included) is lightskinned, as you can see in color spreads and covers, which are drawn by Oda himself.
Oda doesn't color the manga btw. Oda colors volume covers. And there were cases that after the volumes were officially released the manga changed colors of certain characters to match the color schemes of the volume covers

Many anime fans want robin to have a tan or darker skin, whereas most manga fans want paler skin. This will always cause an argument.
