    I think Iko Uwais is definitely talented and a fresh new talent to martial art films. Reviews of his new one 'The Raid' point to the fact that it's voted to be the heaviest action flicks of recent times.

    Silat's really good, especially the weapons applications, but from what I've seen it does take a while to learn the basic movements and apply the techniques. Unfortunately, I'm a little too old to start it. I need a martial art that I can execute from a normal standing position and some of those sweeps that look like break-dancing are beyond me now.

  • @omzyr
    @omzyr 13 років тому

    A lot of people (wrongly) judging Silat is not deadly enough after watching Merantau. They apparently don't realize that it's because of Iko's character and the story itself. Yuda (Iko) is a caring and simple boy, not a killing machine. So making him killing people every time he throw punches will pretty much ruin the story .
    Iko's newest film; "THE RAID" however, is the proper (and better) gallery of Silat takedowns. Trailers available now on UA-cam... Watch It.

    Raw Silat is first and foremost a combat art. It was using as a way none other than to kill & it's honed through thousand of years of Indonesia's bloody history. The only rule in Silat is; kill the opponent before they kill U.
    Later, they take everything deadly from Silat to create new form called "Silat Sport" for it to be able to compete in Olympic games.
    I'm not saying Silat is the deadliest or the best MA, but if you ask if it's deadly?.. then the answer is yes.. A BIG YES!!!

  • @MrFrancisco1987
    @MrFrancisco1987 12 років тому

    @fakirakos alex definitely is right but silat has in comparison to other martial arts, especially western ones, much more techniques for killing. in some variations of silat ( for example melayu) they even learn the usage of kris drunk in poison, you can say that silat is made for killing and not for fighting. the main kicks target either the throat (side kick) or the soda plexus(front kick).

    @dhtjlghks Of course he is slow. The martial arts is West Sumatran style while Iko's style is Jakartanese, so the style he shown this was not his expertise. That's why I want to see THE RAID because in that movie, he became the coreographer himself, using the move he was really expert.

    I don't think he meant you have to have a small stature, he meant you needed strength, speed and co-ordination, so a big guy can learn it just as well. Hell, Sammo Hung is a pretty big guy but he's still a very skilled martial artist.

      Bener bgt, di India, thai, bahkan holywood mreka andelin cara kagum penonton pake tendangan muter atau lompat, bedanya silat dengan yg lain disini blok nya sangat variatif itulah kenapa pertarungan nya tampak menarik bhkan tanpa harus pake tendangan atau tonjokan keren, itu udah kren dari cara berkelahinya sdiri, krn jadi terlihat real dan intens serta variasi gerakan serangan dan blok yg lebih kreatif

    Actually, silat is deadly, but because Yuda or Iko were paying attention there, he didn't kill Retger and Luke's men (sorry if it's a typo). It's a different story, in the films The Raid 1 - 2, it looks like pencak silat is deadly
    Jadi silit itu mematikan ygy

    @thepinkcarousel 12 років тому

    Obviously you know so little about silat. Each martial art styles are unique and great on their own respect. Yayan Ruhian and Iko Uwais are both two of the best silat athletes in Indonesia, and they've been doing it for 20-30 years. The world just didn't know about them yet until they played in a movie.
    If you want to see if someone is really good in martial art or not. See how they perform it in real live, not only in movies. Look up for silat demo/competition on You Tube, you'll be surprised.

I don't wanna talk about the historical past because past is past, but if Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais would made appearance in one movie, I would rather have them as partner as those two guys are my heroes from two different discipline. Those two are World's pride, not only each respective country's pride.
