  • 66708,775,773,774,778,779,776, and 777 unloaded. Manufactured by Electro-Motive Diesel and operated by GBRf. Their fleet of 66 now numbers 78 locos. 1st 66s were delivered in 1998 ( I was there ) I've also covered deliveries for EWS, Freightliner, Fastline and Colas and export of 58 all at Newport Docks..whom I thank for giving me access....end of an era.

    GM-EMD, Britain and America always help each other. The P-51 Mustang fighter plane happened because of Britain. You Brits are brilliant, you are still the best to this American.

      We haven't built any locos since the class 60s in 1989-93....but units are UK built

      No better sound than a new 66! And the only thing i dislike is that they’re not british built! Rail industry’s booming else where in the world over taking us in a lot of aspects (Which should never of been let happen) and we are reduced too buying other country’s loco’s can’t even build our own now, thanks Maggie! Amongst others.

      @@TheMichaelWilcock2016Railways the 755s we imported from Spain for the wherry lines don't even work - Abelio anglia is now short of trains thanks to them getting rid of the 'old' 156s, 170s etc. The funny thing is, these are being transported to TfW and are actually more modern than what we have now!

    Sad. Utterly sad. That the birth place of railroading and premier manufacturer of locomotives, now must imports them. Sad.

      We didn't invest in new factories in the 1980s....quite agreed it's sad. However the factory in the USA has closed !

    The other point I didn't mention Bob, was that 66779 as well as being green has a bell at either end. Finally place your bets on her name, to be unveiled at York; will it be Evening Star or Atlantic Star ?

    To Dunkirk N.Y...............did you know all these locos were built in Illinoi and the last of over 400 imported from USA and Canada since 1998........................Mike in Wales................thanks for watching

    This is going to York for an official naming in May. All the " big wigs " will be there from the railway companies etc
    You and me will have to catch the train !!

    Novice here, I don't understand why this is sad? Would I be right in thinking it's because these 66's in the video are the last ever to be produced?

    • @TheMichaelWilcock2016Railways
      @TheMichaelWilcock2016Railways  6 років тому +2

      The class 66 design and delivery evolved over an 18 year period. 1998-2008 built by GM at London Ontario then 2013-16 Muncie in Indiana. Over 400, most imported through Newport Docks were recorded by myself, as I retired in 1998! We now have enough freight locos ( some say too many ) and I believe the production line in the US has closed. Hope this helps

      Mike Wilcock that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. Appreciated.

      The production line in new London, Canada was closed but production was moved from Canada to the United States and is still capable of building locomotive's. The problem is there are so many high horsepower locomotive's in storage by several railroads now that no one is ordering new locomotive's. Why order a new locomotive at 4.5 million dollars apiece when you can pull a stored locomotive out of storage and have it in service in 30 days for the cost of an annual service on the locomotive, less than $60,000 dollars to get her back in service. Interesting though that both EMD and GE locomotive divisions are for sale.

      9Thanks for the useful information James. We have many of our class 66 in store now, less coal being used in the UK too.

    • @minusjos
      @minusjos 8 років тому

      +Robert Masterman The cover was left on 66779 because it is a special livery that will be unveiled along with a name in may.

    Never understood why they do not adopt the knuckle coupler

    • @oakridgecrossover3359
      @oakridgecrossover3359 4 роки тому

      The earlier versions have knuckle couplers however they removed them in later versions as chains are one of the main couplings now I believe
