I am struggling to write the "Why Nyu" essay for Tandon. Other than writing about the community and Makerspace at Tandon, I don't know what else to write about. Can you give me some advice on what else I should include?
Thanks for creating this, there’s just so little info from the student perspective (and kinda in general) online about Tandon, especially about what the trajectory of the school is and how its changed even in the time you’ve been there. Im wondering how much are hands on experiences incorporated into courses? Thanks!
Haden Misra I honestly don’t think hands on experiences are incorporated into courses although I wish they were. I personally only learned theory (I’m a mechanical engineering major). But there are courses called VIPs (vertically integrated projects) that you can enroll in that does give you hands on experience! Definitely look into those
Thanks so much for making these videos! It's hard to find a lot of content on Tandon on UA-cam. I had a couple questions as a Californian who has never been to NY and has just gotten into Tandon: 1) Have you had any friends or classmates at Tandon who are from California/the West Coast? If so, have they liked their experience and found it worth it to move so far for this school? 2) I keep hearing that the workload/coursework at Tandon is very difficult and intense, but I feel like that can be subjective, so could you possibly tell me why everyone says that? Like maybe give me an example of a week's work for a student with your major? Thanks!!
Tomiko Foster Congratulations! 1) I do have friends from California, and their biggest complaint is the weather since they’re so used to warm sun all the time. So be prepared for cold and snowy winters! Other than that it varies person to person whether they think it’s worth it or not to move, NYC has a lot of opportunities and you never get bored, but NYC isn’t for everyone. 2) The workload is intense because we’re an engineering school. The topics we learn are extremely difficult, and I think that’s the same across all engineering schools. I wouldn’t know for sure if Tandon is harder or easier than other engineering schools specifically
A typical school week would include 2-3 classes per day at 1.5 hours each, 1-2 3 hour labs, and reports that need to be written with those labs. There’s also homework assignments and exams/quizzes sometimes
Thanks for making this video! I found out I got into Tandon yesterday, and I was wondering if there is a core set of classes freshmen have to take, and if there are any possibilities of such required classes being held on the manhattan campus?
ozioma Congrats!!!! Depending on your major, there usually are set core classes you need to take (general chemistry, expository writing, intro to your major class) as examples. I do believe these classes must be taken at Tandon
Awesome and helpful video. I got accepted to the school for masters in mechanical engineering( current senior at U of R). I am a Brooklyn native and I was just wondering If you have any insight on making connections with employers in the city. I know that engineering jobs in the city are not common, or perhaps I am wrong on this but that’s why I’m asking. Thanks for the help :)
Jordy Mendez there are a lot of options for civil engineers and computer science majors in the city in my opinion. Other majors will have a tougher time. I suggest applying to as many internships and jobs as early as possible, and attend any workshops or careers fairs that NYU holds
Hi, I just got off the waitlist for NYU Tandon and I'm now considering it (i have 72 hrs to confirm my admission). But I wanted to know the career prospects and the career fairs and its successes. Thanks, and great video btw!
Sasha Patil congrats!! There’s one career fair per semester, and many internships and jobs can be found there. I think it depends on your major as to how many NYC jobs you can find. i.e there are more opportunities for computer science than mechanical engineering
Hey nice video! So I recently got into NYU tandon and I had a few questions: 1. Are there NYU dorms in the campus? 2. How are the job prospects? Does the 'NYU nametag' help even though Tandon is still newer as compared to the other NYU schools? 3. What's the crowd like? And do you get any free time to explore the city? It would really help me if you could answer these questions for me. Thanks!
Sakshi Pandey Yes there are dorms right next to academic buildings, NYU doesn’t have a defined closed campus though. Having the NYU name definitely helps jobs prospects. Depending on how much time you dedicate to studying and classes, you should have plenty of time to explore the city
Jerry Zou I like othmer because it’s newer and literally a 30 second walk to campus. But there are people who love clark way more because they don’t want to be so close to campus
As a Tandon Student are you “allowed” to take classes at CAS and Stern also or are you confined to the Tandon curriculum and campus? THANK YOU SO MUCH and your videos are a gods send. Best and most real information about Tandon and NYU
Thank you! Yes, you are allowed to take classes at other NYU schools. I'm not sure if you can in your first year, but definitely as an upperclassman. As of right now I do believe they limit you to 4 non-Tandon classes, though. Not sure if this includes cross-school minors since those might take more classes. I'm not totally versed in the specifics, but in short yes you can haha
Do you feel like the environment is competitive or more chill aka how much do u feel like the school wants u to be successful? Also what kind of student support is available - tutoring or guidance? How is living like on campus or off campus? Is it really expensive?
Spam Musubi I never felt like students were in competition with each other. It’s definitely more of a supportive environment. There’s a tutoring center that focuses on freshmen/sophomore level classes. Living on campus or off campus will be expensive, unfortunately. NYC has one of the highest real estate prices. You can find cheaper off campus apartments compared to on campus housing, but they will be farther away. Or you need multiple roomates
Thanks for making this video. I just wanted to ask two questions. I have heard from my friends that computer science or computer engineering NYU Tandon school is pretty stressful? So basically, how many hours of studying you may spend outside of taking classes if as a full-time student? Please reply to me if you have a chance. Thank you!
steven Li i think engineering anywhere is going to be stressful, tbh. I always crammed (not recommended) but if u allocate your time properly u should have plenty of social life. I was able to do a lot of extracurriculars on the side
I was accepted here last night and I'm thinking of attending. Are there frequent career fairs for engineering students? Are there good internship opportunities? If you're aware, how good is the aerospace and mechanical engineering program?
Rahul Congrats!!! 1. Yes, Tandon hosts engineering specific career fairs. Once a semester, and sometimes companies will be invited by clubs for networking too. 2. NYU has its own CareerNet to help you find internship opportunities. Definitely apply to as many internships as possible and as soon as possible, though. NYC is a very competitive location for internships. 3. I’m actually a senior in Mechanical Engineering! Overall the department is what you would expect. Some outstanding professors, some not so great. I learned a lot but I wish I learned how to apply engineering vs. theory only
is there is oppourtunity of part time jobs for international students and also how many intership are available there for CS students can you please tell me the total cost of cs major students including rooms, boards, tuition fees and others Please reply
I just got accepted to this school! I would like to know how the food is, what entertainment is close to the school, and how connected you feel with the main NYU campus in Manhattan? Also, how much time does it take to manhattan via train
JuanPodructions Congratulations!! 1. NYU actually just changed their food provider for the coming years so it may change, but I like it. There’s many dining halls to choose from all over NYU so if you don’t like Jasper Kane, you can try somewhere else. Outside food around Tandon is abundant, but can be expensive. 2. Entertainment: movie theaters, Barclays center, shopping, and lots of sightseeing. I like the DUMBO area specifically
JuanPodructions 3. I don’t go to the Manhattan campus as much anymore, but that was my choice. How connected you feel to the Manhattan campus is dependent on how hard you try to go there and participate. They host events open to everyone and vice versa, so you can mingle between campuses. 4. By train it takes 20 minutes. There’s also a free shuttle that runs every hour or so!
A D there’s a computer science major, or you can do computer engineering for more hardware related things. I’m not a computer science person, but you should look into the courses that those majors have to take and see if it’s what you want to learn
@@Puppuchy Thanks for the reply! Also, as a Tandon student, are you allowed to study abroad? And are Tandon students able to transfer within the NYU schools? Thank you!
A D study abroad is possible for a Tandon student, but we’re more limited in options. If u want to take an engineering class abroad you really only have NYU Abu Dhabi to go to. I think they’re also trying for engineering courses in NYU London. Then again you can always study abroad wherever over the summer and take humanities classes!
BreBre XoXo most clubs you can just attend whenever you want, but clubs that enter technical competitions (robotics competitions, etc.) you have to apply to be a part of their team
This is an amazing video! Thank you for sharing, I am applying upcoming fall and this information made me want to apply even more! I hope I get in!
The video is amazing! Keep up the good work! 😊 Can't wait for the next video hahaha
Nice video! Thanks for sharing. My son is going to NYU tandon, just want to ask if the area is safe.

Do you recommend Computer Science in Tandon or CAS?
HI! I love this video thank youuuuu :) I really want to go to Tandon and pursue CS. I'm not sure if I can get in...what is the average GPA and SAT?

This was so helpful! Thank you.
How is the tandon bridge program to get into ms in cs from nyu tandon? Thank you for your time.

It depends on majors actually. As a Tandon student at BTM, my major requires me to take 4 classes out of 5 at Stern this semester
