Lughnasadh, pronounced "LOO-nuh-suh," is an ancient Celtic festival celebrated (in the northern hemisphere) on August 1st, marking the first harvest of the season. Named after the Irish god Lugh, this festival honors the bounty of the earth and the hard work of the farmers. It is a time of gratitude, where communities come together to give thanks for the abundance of crops and to celebrate with feasts, games, and rituals. Traditionally, it involves baking bread from the new grain, making corn dollies, and offering the first fruits of the harvest to the gods.
