When my 8 year old daughter wanted to start playing, I started incorporating her pick a number between 1-20, then she rolls. If she hits the number exactly, she succeeds gloriously at whatever it was, if she's one or two numbers off, she succeeds, but barely. If she rolls a 1, something hilarious happens. She wanted to shoot a bandit with an arrow from across a town square as he was escaping, she rolled a 1 and even though her aim was perfect, a bird flew into the path of her arrow and she stuck it to the bulletin board and the crowd cheered because they thought she was amazing. The bandit got away. It makes the game flow faster than having her constantly checking her sheet.
I want to play with a DM like that! EVERY ROLL IS A SUCCESS! and you can literally do anything. The ultimate fantasy world, no rules, no failure, everything is permissible.
Love these shorts! When my son was 11 and ran Dragons of Storm Wreck Isle these videos and the accompanying series for the set were both awesome. I also love the way Madeline pronounces “call.” Where I live in Middle America the short a abounds.

I wanna play a Raksha-sa Sorcerer Skald of Obliat! The decision making would be so easy - What's the most self-serving action here? Okay, I charisma for that.
This is fun to listen to (she is a good presenter) but not all that helpful. I was looking for more of a manual, but this was more like the synopsis on the back of a manual.
Weirdly enough I find it fascinating to watch this video without sound ... it's like watching a female younger version of Doc Brown orchestrating, I mean explaining time travel, I mean D&D. :-)
Damn, this is all I need to know in 4 minutes? Good thing I didn't waste my time with the PHB, DMG, or MM. This 4 minutes is all I needed to know so I'll run a campaign tomorrow! Thanks so much! 🙄
sorry to say but i doubt you know it ??? but im ready to give it a chance, now that was mistake nr 1 its not about all having fun that is like someone who told all others this is how its done and now all are doing that, but if that is what all feels like dont let me stop you, but that is not that Gamemasters is about, now you want to hear my version i think you have to be loyal to one thing as a Gamemaster and that is the world / the players have to keep themself what ever they want to be that is not youre job to keep the happy or anything.. youre job is to roleplay the world make adventures... let the players handle themself dont protect the playes dont be that nanny gamemaster,,,, and in jump a figher and save the day the players live you are robbing them of being Hero's
If you actually want to learn how to be a DM go watch some Matt Colville videos or one of the other MANY amazing content creators on youtube instead of whatever the hell this is.

This is a wonderful way to introduce her to the idea of tabletop roleplaying. 👏
I'll use that idea with my youngest 😆

Madeline's enthusiasm is really contagious lol. Couldn't have picked a better host for these series. 👍
She's like a European Elizabeth Olson, without the weird fingers.
Doesn't hurt that's she's beautiful
I love how concise this is. Well done!
@Michael Johnson lol are you really trying to impress ppl with the amount of time you've spent playing a video game?......Bwhahahahhahaha
I liked this mini vid. It was well put together and delivered!

How to be a DM:
Step 1: say "yes, and" or "yes, but", or "you can try" to every prospective action the PCs ask or suggest.
Just say no.
@@gattzflappa6306that’s lame why would you say no?
I'm genuinely surprised at how useful this advice is.

Seems like a lot of work for what it's worth in my opinion. I'll stick to playing the games and reading the books
