    My golf school schedule is LIVE! If you’d like to join me in Bethlehem, PA for a two-day immersive golf experience, go to ecgolfcoaching... to learn more and schedule. If you are not able to join us in Bethlehem, PA check out www.cogornogol... That’s our online community where I work with golfers from all over the world. That’s where you can send in your swing and get feedback, priorities and direction to improve your game.
    The two big issues most of you see during the backswing is too much roll and/or too flat of a backswing. The drill in this video is designed to get the first few feet of your backswing correct and get the shaft more vertical and to help remedy the biggest backswing issues.

    Love this drill, and combined with your other video that shows how the club has the lowest weight (feeling wise), when it is straight up. I now use the line check with the club parallel and the feeling of it being almost weightless when my arm is parallel and the club is at 90deg, and it's almost impossible to go horizontal then.
    Eric, one more question...regarding golf camps that you responded to on another post...Was thinking of a one week summer golf camp for my 16 year old son who will be on varsity team this season. Live in Calif, but open to one anywhere. Just want solid, reputable teaching. Have looked at a couple (in FL and CA...not wanting to mention names here) but wanted to see if you had any suggestions. Thanks.

    Correct me if I’m wrong Eric, but for me, I think the key is the hands being inside the right pec. If you don’t do this, it seems to me the golfer has used too much arms in the backswing which causes arms too far inside and loss of width. In other words, you almost can’t use too much body in the backswing. You must keep your arms in front of you (right pec). A lot of left shoulder (body), very little arms. Thanks.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 роки тому

      I definitely like that as a checkpoint (hands near right pec) at left arm parallel.
      What you said in generally true.....people not only turn different amounts (degrees) but at different times.
      Some more EARLY....some more LATE....just want to pair the AMOUNT of body rotate and the TIMING of that rotation with arms to keep it neutral

      Eric Cogorno Golf .. Thanks buddy. I will definitely take a look. You’re instruction is the best by far. Not even close. I tried the three checkpoints at the range and hit the ball really well. I really like the feel. The shoulder more down really does make hitting the checkpoints easier. Thanks again, Eric!! Keep cranking!! Take care. Jim

    Something that helps me is the feeling of starting hands back first instead of club head. A little lag helps to keep club head outside hands .I think Tiger does this .

    Great video & well explained -however I thought the butt of the club should be pointing close to the ball but you seem to be suggesting it should be almost pointing straight down not pointing towards the ball

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 роки тому

      Hey Martin!
      Thanks!
      If you watch back you will notice I do say it should be at or just inside the ball line
      But this is an exaggeration for those who get too far inside with takeaway or flat with backswing
      I say it again then when I do the Hideki review.
      Im sure you will see that if you watch back!

    I do this drill all the time, however, I have seen in other videos and books that the butt of the club should be pointed at the ball at position three where the arm is parallel to the ground or anywhere between the ball and the feet. You are saying to point the club behind the orange stick behind you. Hideki Matsuyama is not doing this in your video example above. Hideki is pointing the butt almost at the ball. Why the difference in what Hideki is doing and what you are teaching in this video?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Richard!
      Thanks for the message.
      If you watch back the video you will notice that I mention this is an exaggerated feel.
      I mention in the Hideki part that butt of club at ball line or just inside is the goal
      So why the drill with it so far inside that line?
      Because you need to exaggerate
      As I mention most people are too FLAT....so what do they they need feel?
      I've talked at length about good checkpoints....again keep in mind and re watch how I mention this is an exaggeration
      Here are more literal checkpoints

    A perfect backswing may not be that important. Furyk, Matthew Wolff, Trevino, Nancy Lopez, Raymond Floyd, Moe Norman, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Hogan. Let's not even mention Hosung Choi! Lol! Isn't focusing on a correct impact more important? If we get that right then the backswing will find itself for the down swing needed for a correct impact.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 роки тому

      I believe the backswing is very important. To your 9 examples there I could like 90,000 good golfers with great backswings. I could also like 90,000 who stink because their backswing makes their downswing too difficult.
      The backswing matters. Of course it matters....you have to swing down from there!
      Can some great players get away with "bad" backswings? LOL....of course!
      Not Joe public.....lets get real :) To think otherwise is silly.

      Having a good back swing minimizes variability. The larger your back swing variables are (variables being variability) the harder it is to repeat great impact shots. It all begins with the back swing buddy.

    • @guitar1950
      @guitar1950 4 роки тому

      jacob belmontes I don’t disagree that it does minimize variables and can definitely help in getting a correct impact. I’m not a great golfer so my opinion doesn’t hold much value. But I know for me, if I focus too much on my back swing, it affects my ability to hit good shots. I like Bradley Hughes teaching. He focuses on a student’s ability in the down swing. Utilizing a series of drills mainly with an impact bag to ingrain an inside path to impact and proper use of the forearms and pivot to square the club. He preaches accelerating the club after impact and not focus on hitting the ball. He believes that the back swing will usually (and I did say “usually”) takes care of itself once a golfer learns these other important aspects. I like Eric’s instruction very much. I just don’t think my back swing is important for me. By the way, I’m 69 years old. An old duffer. I started playing golf at age 45. I became obsessed with learning the game and to play as good as I can. I don’t hit it very long. But I consistently score in mid 80s and I’ve broken 80 several times including last year. I play middle tees on most courses I play. Ive played courses all over the country including Myrtle Beach, Tennessee, Florida, Indiana, Arizona, Utah, and California including Torre Pines. I’ve watched more instruction than probably most lifetime golfers my age. I found the best overall instruction that connects with are Eric’s and Bradley Hughes. Here’s to better golf!
