Has anyone else besides me ever experienced this phenomenon?: You rage quit a game because you try and fail over and over again to do a certain part and, usually in my case, you leave it for a week or longer and when you finally come back to the game, you get past this part on the first try. This makes you think: Why did this cause me trouble before?
Bob Sav I often find that 98% of the time I do better after I haven't played for a while and all future attempts (that happen in succession) just go downhill from there.
Yeah, I think everybody's felt that way lol. I think the problem is when you're frustrated you're not thinking clearly, you're basically just ramming your head against a wall (metaphorically speaking). Then when you take a break and calm down you can think clearly and beat the thing that gave you so much trouble. Sometimes sleeping on it helps too because it gives your brain time to work out what you did wrong and come up with new strategies and ways to approach the problem. When I was little I used to get frustrated with games a lot and my parents would always tell me to take a break and come back to it later. Turned out they were right.
Pie Pierrot You're right. What you're saying reminds me of when I played Batman, I got up to the Hugo strange part and I tried for an hour and his henchmen kept beatimg me. I came back the next morning and I piled them all up in a corner! And I thought: Why wasn't it that easy last night! needless to say, I laughed. ☺
I always thought that Rob was a good actor but it really came through in this video. At 10:04 where he rage quits and then goes through like 8 different emotions in 10 seconds and legitimately tears up and cries on command... Bravo Rob. Bravo.
I thought the same thing, he really put a bunch of emotions on display. It was done for comedy but that could be refined for drama. I'd much rather silly Rob than serious actor Rob though, so don't tell him I said that.
Because of commenting so late, I don't think anybody will read this, but here is my story: I reaslised, that I shouldn't be throwing controllers on the ground or wall. So I've looked around and saw, that my bed had some kind of soft wall to it. So from this moment I always threw the controller to this soft spot = no sound, no controller damage. I did this until the controller bounced back right into my face.

After playing a very irritating hour-long session of Overwatch I was so mad that I had to throw something. My foresight said "throw your controller at the soft chair next to you so nothing will break," so I did.... and it bounced off of the chair and straight into my TV, destroying the pixels on one vertical half of the TV. FML.
many screens have died by my hand or by my controller launched into it! Not to mention my last mouse with a ball in it for my computer that became my cat's favorite toy after becoming the largest surviving piece when I slammed it down in rage from a computer game...GRRRRR! :)

"And it's not me!" Lmao. The first 10 times or so Nath lost in One on Onesie are some of the funniest things I've ever watched in my life. The pure, unfiltered rage of a man that thinks he's better at gaming than he actually is was absolutely priceless.
I couldn’t beat vamp on metal gear solid 2 so I threw mashed potatoes and gravy at my ps2. Luckily I immediately wiped it off and it worked fine, years later while visiting my parents I could still see small stains from the brown gravy on the ceiling , a faint reminder of my rage quit.
A close friend does currently only buy white controllers instead of black ones! Why you may ask? Because black controllers always leave these ugly stains on the wall ....

Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper... I spent a solid forty-five minutes mulling through the first crime scene, which was only a couple meters wide and inescapable until you reconstructed the crime... I didn't know that... I walked, used Holmes vision, walked more, walked even more, and the entire time, my buddies are watching as dumbfounded as me. My blood pressure has gotten to the point that I can feel my pulse in the tops of my ears, and I finally turn to Watson, hoping desperately for some insight to some mechanic I was missing, and this guy looked me dead in the face and asked, "What are we doing, Holmes?" There was a moment of silence before one of my friends gave a dry laugh. I dropped the controller, looked at him and said "What are we doing, Watson? What are we doing, Watson!? WHAT ARE WE DOING, WATSON!!!?" as I feigned strangling my pal. For a while after that, it became a bit of a running gag that when I got irritated, one of my friends would stop and ask "What are we doing, Holmes?"
I don't know how many times i raged against Bloodborne/dark souls bosses, just keep on shouting at them, insults them, say the game is broken and when i finaly beat them just give them the biggest finger ever xD
While the girlfriend spectates, questioning your sanity and asks why you are playing it... Telling you to calm down (Which doesn't help!). Then you beat the boss eventually and it is the best feeling in the world... and it is a feeling she will never know or understand :-) *Praise the sun/Good hoonter*

Dragonborn2182 Mike hahahahaha omg that happened in enemy unknown,lost the mission, THEN China left the alliance. I immediately uninstalled the game never playing an xcom game again.
X-Com 2 got Rob's Persona 5 treatment from me. Got so tired of teammates ending up injured and on the shelf because I'd miss gimme's. With a potential kill-shot was 85% or higher, I'd miss 3 out of 4 times. Spent more time making a crew of soldiers based upon B or C movies that were featured in RedLetterMedia's Best of the Worst reviews than actually playing the game.
While playing dark souls 3 I was invaded by someone using a really crappy weapon and who was also lagging. I proceeded to get destroyed by said person and then taunted after they killed me. I had previously been eating a can of soup, and the pot with the remains of the soup were near me. I became so upset that I picked up the pot and started to use it as a hammer against my footrest, sending cold soup and the spoon flying scaring the literal piss out of my dog (who was sleeping in my room at the time) in the process.
I remember the good old days of ragequitting Gun Game matches in Black Ops 1 because some people loved demoting you by only going after you with a knife ;) (And then being a child about it and doing it yourself to others. Ah well, I was young). Oh yeah and trying to get the gold relic on Stormy Ascent just yesterday. Ah well I got it now.

when I rage-quiet, or just get freakin angry at a game,I scream like a Banshee at the screen (oddly none of my neighbours had complained about it yet), sometimes smash the controller at my couch (as long as it does not bounce of to much, it keeps safe) and then go online to see if anyone else is totally pissed at that certain part of a game.
These funny sequences in the middle are so hilarious all the times. I've watch all of the channels vids over 5 times each I think but yet the mum sequences are amazing. Good work Rob, you're the best
Mortal Kombat on SNES... My sister sat behind me while we played 1vs1, being the cheeky bugger I decided to spam jump attacks to win over and over again. She got fed up and smashed her turbo controller into my head shattering it in the process. Good times.
I have a habit of rage quitting, immediately feeling stupid, and going back into the game hot without sufficient cooldown, convincing myself I'll do it this time, as I get worse and worse at the bit as my blood pressure continues to spike
My brother and I used to love playing Star Wars Battlefront (the old one). We were both playing Imperial on Hoth, and my brother wouldn't stop shooting me when I was trying to take the bunker. I've never played with him since.
In thirty years I've never rage-quit a game, I just quietly and calmly stop playing. Unless it's the board game version of Monopoly, in which case someone else look for all the scattered pieces, sort the explosion of colourful money, and sellotape the board back together... I don't play Monopoly any more.
I once had a 12 hour streak going in FFV. The first time I ever played it way back when. I ran in to Omega Weapon and was completely wrecked. I was totally unprepared for that death machine. My last save was that 12 hours I previously stated. I calmly put the controller down, turned off the game and shelved it for a year.
My sister and I were playing psychonauts at the same time and I rage quit at the meat circus and she laughed at me for it so I did the next logical thing and hid the disk from her so she couldn't beat it
That is the pettiest thing I've ever heard. Funny though, and if I had known my sister would get past the coliseum in the first Kingdom Hearts I might have considered the same thing.
Biting the controller.. Still do that cause my brain says breaking something is expensive and you just gotta take your anger out on something. Eating electronics it is. This usually combined with the 3am rage.
Finally...someone who understands the pain of trying to fully synchronize the game. That flying one was also a nightmare. In fact, most of the ones where you have to not get hit are all nightmares
I have two, First, Conker's Bad Fur Day (Remake) the Lava level. I basically took the controller outside, spun it around like a hammer throw, and smashed it against the house, shattering it everywhere. I left it there and grabbed my spare controller played again. Lost and kicked the console. Second. MGS5. I spent A DAY building the nuke, it finished building, and literally 10 seconds after it finished building someone snuck into my base, and fulton'd it and then turned off their internet connection so I couldn't get my F*ing Nuke back. I never went back to MGS5.
Can we take a minute to appreciate how good of a comedic Actor Rob Pearson is? The way he visibly conveys emotion you can tell he was definitely trained.
My idea of rage quitting is me just setting the controller down and watching myself get pummeled whilst I say "yeah... I don't care, that's what I wanted to happen, awesome. This is great." Usually Dark Souls.
Only game I rage quit was Bloodborne. I got so mad, because I was stuck at the final boss with only 2 blood vials. I tried for a few days, then got really angry and sold the game. Just to buy it again a few months later, because I actually like it lol

The only game I remember ragequitting is Dark Souls. Oh the boss is one hit away from death ? "Here let me make you forget everything you know about the controls of this games , go ahead give it a heavy attack not the light one , no we don't want the FAST WAY OUT!!!" I once broke the screen on a GBA because the Spyro game I was trying to play --- me off with it's idiotic fake 3-d that made it near impossible to fly down screen without falling into bottomless pits. Only Spyro game I ever owned, never bought one after that.
I've broken a dinning chair, scratched a table, and destroyed a PS2 contrôler due to medal of honor European assault's last level BATTLE OF THE BULGE Never finished that damn level although it was my favorite game for the better part of 3 years... It is just too hard (and I was a kid...)
Lord knows how I haven’t lost friends because I know several chronic power players who will learn every nuance of a multiplayer game, challenge me to play, destroy me utterly and refuse to give one single tip. In return, they will never play me at any game I have mastered.
I was playing Mortal Kombat with my brother. He doesn't know how to play and so he doesn't do combos, he just sits and spams the same move over and over. I kept losing because I was too mad to think straight and counter him. I spiked the PS2 controller so hard off the floor it literally exploded. It was like a little bomb went off in it. There were bits of controller everywhere. I still find pieces of it every now and then.
I had that happen to me once playing Tekken in an arcade. My fave was True Ogre and this kid decides to play and chooses some guy in a karate gi, and literally low kicked and leg sweeped me to death.... I didn't yell or anything, I stepped back and let the AI I would have been fighting if he hadn't shown up annihilate him.
This is the most relatable video yet. My rage was trying to get the "flappy goat" achievement in goat sim. I couldnt get the 10 points so i threw my controller, and it cliped the corner of the TV (CLIPED IT) and half of the screen turned to the rainbow lines. The worst part was explaining to mum why i needed a new TV
Collus Sane thankfully I was already a stoner when I first played Dark Souls. I could only imagine how infuriated I'd get, as I still get pretty sore lol. Only enough to quit for the day though.
Kane Aquino I hated that damn battle. I quit playing it for years and tried again when I stumbled across it while looking through my cabinet. Beat it on my first try that time.
I had a similar experience. Was able to beat him pretty easily years later when playing the remasters. Can't say the same for his digital version though, which I was pretty ready to rage quit. Had the same experience with Xigbar, the guy who shots lasers every where, but years later I completely wrecked him. Beat him and his digital version on the first try. It was very cathartic.
My "rage quit" story isn't truly rage quitting at all. After losing to one of the bosses on Dark Souls 3 for the millionth time (I forget which one now) I quit, and decided to vent my frustration. My parents came into the kitchen at midnight to find me aggressively making coffee cake while passive aggressively grumbling. The good part was that the coffee cake was delicious.
I remember that day, when I was playing Destiny 1 against another players, and with a friend. I was really bored and frustrated on Osiris because, there, it looks like the players are invencible (or I really suck). Then, to resolve things, I quited and put on that trick that makes u play online but looks like ur offline for others, so they couldn't bother me... Play against the mobs made me feel a lot better, headshots on them was like a walking on the beach on sunlight perfectly lighting me.
Am I the only one who has never raged this hard? Ever time I feel the tilt coming I put a hyped up music and that's it... I get very hyped and forget the tilt...

Back when I was in the navy, I was stationed in Sasebo Naval Base on board the Essex. For those who have been stationed on the Iron Gator and have suddenly had flashbacks like you were in 'Nam or Korea, I'm sorry. Back in late 2007 when the first game of a series most of you love called The Witcher first released, I picked it up right out the gate and tore into it. Pardon my heresy, but I found the game to be a frustrating, infuriating, and unplayable mess of bugs, clunky and awkward controls, and slow plot that has about as much pull as the overarching plot of the original Final Fantasy. It came time for when I had to hunt down the barghest. I considered myself a patient sailor, but The Witcher, predatory hunter it is, felt determined to show how much more patient -it- is. Wandering around trying everything I could, killing everything I found, and even taking the hit to my pride and looking up walkthroughs and following multiple ones step by step the barghest refused to spawn. Ever. Even when it was supposed to do hit and runs it never spawned. So I decided that I was going to show this game and it's overpriced $60 price tag that I was neither amused nor one to be trifled with. I ejected the disc from it's slot in my laptop, dropped the case in the trash on my way out of the berthing on my way to the top decks of the ship, and in my supreme wrath I flicked my wrist and sent The Witcher spinning through the air and off the back end of the ship like a Frisbee. It had a good go, CDs make awesome Frisbees by the way, and the offending chunk of plastic went a good 50 meters before sinking into the ocean waves somewhere between Japan and the Philippines. I sure showed it. In my chronic immaturity I still feel pleased with my performance today.
Once when I was younger I raged so hard that I kept hitting the chair I was sitting on with my remote on impulse. Instead of hitting the space between my legs I hit my crotch and the frustration from the pain on top of mine with the game caused me to quit... What's worse is that now I don't even remember what game I was playing, I'm pretty sure it was an online game as I died super frequently, probably CoD.
Destroyed my Dark Souls 2 disc after trying to get through the Iron Keep for the first time then went and bought another copy the next day, I live in Australia to and it just came out so 90$ each purchase

I was playing Crash Bandicoot 'N sane trilogy and I was on the hardest level in video game history...........the high road. I had got so mad that I threw my deodrant on the floor, it exploded and my room smelt like autumn flowers for days......
GTA V: Load online, Rockstar services unavailable. Get into a server, leave apartment, game freezes on loading animation. Load a job, sit in lobby for 20min waiting for players. Mission loads, player quits and mission fails.
Ugh I hated that gym. I had a Ghastly! They were supposed to be strong against Normals and Normals were supposed to not effect them! Why do you do these things to me game?
Rage quitted on Catherine. On the 3rd or 4th puzzle I got so mad I got a knife out of the kitchen and scratched the disc as hard as I could, and did a mock exorcism on the game (yes, I'm serious). Also Dark Souls 3, threw the disc at my wall, got the disc chipped And Demon Souls, threw my controller against the floor so hard that it flew and created a perfect arc that hit the top left of television, breaking the screen. Also a few times I damaged/broke controllers, can't remember them specifically though. I may need anger management.
You might want to see a therapist. Sounds like you have some bottled up rage there. A game should never make you physically violent. I've squeezed my controller or yelled really loud to vent frustration but jeez you've got issues.
I've been getting better since then (Demons Souls was the most recent one, 2 yrs ago). I know when to quit and walk away now. It really taught me a lesson. Not sure about telling this info on the internet, but whatever.

I remember once getting so frustrated going for gold on 150cc in mario kart 64. Then the phone rang which forced me to rage quit and answer the phone, in which i decided to greet this person with a good yelling. Mother was not best.pleased with me that day 😂

Punched the N64 cartridge to death for Golden Eye 007 after trying and failing the Natalya mission. I still haven't been able to play it because the rage is there every time I start the game.

I remember when I was 8 years old playing Crash Bandicoot 3 on the PS1, I rage quited a level and broke the cd in two, but as a result of that I cut my hands. The blood soaked the carpet and my mom was angry as hell at me!
I think there is a wonderful commentary to be found here about how emotionally involved and sucked into a gaming experience we all can be when considering controller smashing. In my opinion, The reason that controllers are the most abused item is because it serves as our virtual connection to the game world, and is the most direct method to communicate with that virtual world. It’s not enough to punch a pillow, one needs to feel like the game world has heard our plaintive cries, and the best way to do that, for them to hear, is through the medium of the controller. We Could easily find 100 things in our immediate environment to destroy without consequence. How many pens snapped in half before you call down? But the fact that the controller is central to many rage quits is an expression of how much we want to communicate with the game world itself that we are pissed.

I spent a solid forty-five minutes mulling through the first crime scene, which was only a couple meters wide and inescapable until you reconstructed the crime... I didn't know that... I walked, used Holmes vision, walked more, walked even more, and the entire time, my buddies are watching as dumbfounded as me. My blood pressure has gotten to the point that I can feel my pulse in the tops of my ears, and I finally turn to Watson, hoping desperately for some insight to some mechanic I was missing, and this guy looked me dead in the face and asked, "What are we doing, Holmes?"
There was a moment of silence before one of my friends gave a dry laugh. I dropped the controller, looked at him and said "What are we doing, Watson? What are we doing, Watson!? WHAT ARE WE DOING, WATSON!!!?" as I feigned strangling my pal.
For a while after that, it became a bit of a running gag that when I got irritated, one of my friends would stop and ask "What are we doing, Holmes?"

X-Com 2 got Rob's Persona 5 treatment from me. Got so tired of teammates ending up injured and on the shelf because I'd miss gimme's. With a potential kill-shot was 85% or higher, I'd miss 3 out of 4 times. Spent more time making a crew of soldiers based upon B or C movies that were featured in RedLetterMedia's Best of the Worst reviews than actually playing the game.
While playing dark souls 3 I was invaded by someone using a really crappy weapon and who was also lagging. I proceeded to get destroyed by said person and then taunted after they killed me. I had previously been eating a can of soup, and the pot with the remains of the soup were near me. I became so upset that I picked up the pot and started to use it as a hammer against my footrest, sending cold soup and the spoon flying scaring the literal piss out of my dog (who was sleeping in my room at the time) in the process.

Unless it's the board game version of Monopoly, in which case someone else look for all the scattered pieces, sort the explosion of colourful money, and sellotape the board back together... I once had a 12 hour streak going in FFV. The first time I ever played it way back when. I ran in to Omega Weapon and was completely wrecked. I was totally unprepared for that death machine. My last save was that 12 hours I previously stated. I calmly put the controller down, turned off the game and shelved it for a year.
I feel comforted to know I'm not the only grown man who bites things when he's rages. This includes controllers and my own skin lol.

First, Conker's Bad Fur Day (Remake) the Lava level. I basically took the controller outside, spun it around like a hammer throw, and smashed it against the house, shattering it everywhere. I left it there and grabbed my spare controller played again. Lost and kicked the console.
Second. MGS5. I spent A DAY building the nuke, it finished building, and literally 10 seconds after it finished building someone snuck into my base, and fulton'd it and then turned off their internet connection so I couldn't get my F*ing Nuke back. I never went back to MGS5.

Only game I rage quit was Bloodborne. I got so mad, because I was stuck at the final boss with only 2 blood vials. I tried for a few days, then got really angry and sold the game. Just to buy it again a few months later, because I actually like it lol

Lord knows how I haven’t lost friends because I know several chronic power players who will learn every nuance of a multiplayer game, challenge me to play, destroy me utterly and refuse to give one single tip. In return, they will never play me at any game I have mastered.
I was playing Mortal Kombat with my brother. He doesn't know how to play and so he doesn't do combos, he just sits and spams the same move over and over. I kept losing because I was too mad to think straight and counter him. I spiked the PS2 controller so hard off the floor it literally exploded. It was like a little bomb went off in it. There were bits of controller everywhere. I still find pieces of it every now and then.
I had that happen to me once playing Tekken in an arcade. My fave was True Ogre and this kid decides to play and chooses some guy in a karate gi, and literally low kicked and leg sweeped me to death.... I didn't yell or anything, I stepped back and let the AI I would have been fighting if he hadn't shown up annihilate him.

I had a similar experience. Was able to beat him pretty easily years later when playing the remasters. Can't say the same for his digital version though, which I was pretty ready to rage quit. Had the same experience with Xigbar, the guy who shots lasers every where, but years later I completely wrecked him. Beat him and his digital version on the first try. It was very cathartic.

My "rage quit" story isn't truly rage quitting at all. After losing to one of the bosses on Dark Souls 3 for the millionth time (I forget which one now) I quit, and decided to vent my frustration. My parents came into the kitchen at midnight to find me aggressively making coffee cake while passive aggressively grumbling. The good part was that the coffee cake was delicious.

I was really bored and frustrated on Osiris because, there, it looks like the players are invencible (or I really suck). Then, to resolve things, I quited and put on that trick that makes u play online but looks like ur offline for others, so they couldn't bother me...
Play against the mobs made me feel a lot better, headshots on them was like a walking on the beach on sunlight perfectly lighting me.

Back when I was in the navy, I was stationed in Sasebo Naval Base on board the Essex. For those who have been stationed on the Iron Gator and have suddenly had flashbacks like you were in 'Nam or Korea, I'm sorry.
Back in late 2007 when the first game of a series most of you love called The Witcher first released, I picked it up right out the gate and tore into it. Pardon my heresy, but I found the game to be a frustrating, infuriating, and unplayable mess of bugs, clunky and awkward controls, and slow plot that has about as much pull as the overarching plot of the original Final Fantasy. It came time for when I had to hunt down the barghest. I considered myself a patient sailor, but The Witcher, predatory hunter it is, felt determined to show how much more patient -it- is.
Wandering around trying everything I could, killing everything I found, and even taking the hit to my pride and looking up walkthroughs and following multiple ones step by step the barghest refused to spawn. Ever. Even when it was supposed to do hit and runs it never spawned. So I decided that I was going to show this game and it's overpriced $60 price tag that I was neither amused nor one to be trifled with. I ejected the disc from it's slot in my laptop, dropped the case in the trash on my way out of the berthing on my way to the top decks of the ship, and in my supreme wrath I flicked my wrist and sent The Witcher spinning through the air and off the back end of the ship like a Frisbee. It had a good go, CDs make awesome Frisbees by the way, and the offending chunk of plastic went a good 50 meters before sinking into the ocean waves somewhere between Japan and the Philippines. I sure showed it. In my chronic immaturity I still feel pleased with my performance today.

Breaking a controller is the worst, especially a ps4 controller, those fuckers aren't cheap, luckily i've only done it once lol

I remember when I was 8 years old playing Crash Bandicoot 3 on the PS1, I rage quited a level and broke the cd in two, but as a result of that I cut my hands. The blood soaked the carpet and my mom was angry as hell at me!
I think there is a wonderful commentary to be found here about how emotionally involved and sucked into a gaming experience we all can be when considering controller smashing. In my opinion, The reason that controllers are the most abused item is because it serves as our virtual connection to the game world, and is the most direct method to communicate with that virtual world. It’s not enough to punch a pillow, one needs to feel like the game world has heard our plaintive cries, and the best way to do that, for them to hear, is through the medium of the controller. We Could easily find 100 things in our immediate environment to destroy without consequence. How many pens snapped in half before you call down? But the fact that the controller is central to many rage quits is an expression of how much we want to communicate with the game world itself that we are pissed.
