Actually you can choose to spray resin and fiberglass or only resin or only fiber. You can adjust your fiber to resin ratios effectively and quickly. There is control over the amount of material used. You can calibrate your fiber to resin ratios and you can add a counter that ensures the operator sprays the correct amount each time. A skilled operator can spray more evenly that a hand laid up system because the eyes observe the evenness of the laminate.
There are guns that only chop the strands, and then there are also guns that spray resin into a stream of shopped strand (these are probably the most common in industrial applications). If you were just using a gun that chopped the strand without resin, then you'd have to pre apply resin to your tooling or part. Anyways, nice MR2 dude! 2nd gen is one of my favorite cars ever and I hope to own one... one day.
This is the most cost effective and quickest method to layup a hull, sadly it’s the method most prone to weakness and failure over time. Also sad to see a company allowing the employees to work without respirators on.
I had to find this video after seeing it somewhere else....I find it freaking beyond astronomically HILLARIOUS that my homies in the video have taken the time to wrap up that oh so delicate head mop, you know to avoid air born debris from dirtying up the wonderful waves. But, find it unnecessary to wear any kind of breathing protection. You see like 2 people throughout the video. Your safety team should be fired. Respirators are needed in these AIR BORN APPLICATION environments. You're talking about breathing extremely fine particles several hours a day week in and week out. edit: the gel coating guys know whats up. Body, head, face, lung, and eye protection at all times.
