This is great but if my paragraphs are auto numbered - how do I get the TOC to include the paragraph number? When I to Alt+Shift+O it only includes the wording, not the paragraph number.
Deborah, you made a new fan today. I'm almost 30 yrs as a trainer and had long since forgetting this method. I'm currently working on a federal contract and the "Admiral" has his/her demands for the TOC. I'd love to get your final admonishment in writing so I can pass it around. Sheesh! It's just a document people! Get over yourselves. haha! PS: your delivery was clear and flawless. Thank you for being so considerate of your audience.
I LOVE your clear and complete explanations (and also, I must admit that seeing even you make the occasional "oops" gives me a sense of relief!). Thank you for your videos!
Excellent video. I have document with tables with various headings that I wanted to selectively include in the TOC. This technique does the trick for me.
Thank you so much! I think this fixes the problem that I was having! I am going to have to go through it a step at a time, to be sure, but this look like the issue. At the very least, as I try your videos, I am learning more about the software in general, and that is ALWAYS more helpful for problem solving.
It’s better to work this document with styles. I learned it by my own with excellent videos like yours. Love your teachings thank you. In the law office where i work they still use this TC field because they know no better. I refuse to keep using TC fields after learning about styles. I considered my self fair good in styles.
Ma'am, if I want two separate tables of contents within the same document using the same method as explained in the above video, how can I do it? E.g., I need a list of Figures and a list of tables for my project report document.
Hi Can you help? I am trying to center, and bold my TOC main headings but keep the page numbers aligned to the right. I can do this manually but ofcourse it shifts back to the pg number in the center when updating TOC.
I have a TOC that shows two levels. On 1. and 2. the boss doesn't want to show the levels 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, etc. But, on 3 and the remaining TOC he wants to see levels 1 and 2. Can I disable Header 2 for the first TWO items in the list, but keep both levels beginning with the 3 paragraph?
There are bunch of paragraphs, some of which start with a numeral. It contains an *en-dash*. We need to go to the point of en-dash, push rest of that Para into next paragraph. Then come again to the earlier Para (numeral para), apply a custom style (eg. My Style). Then insert a *style separator* at its end (now this would automatically - visually join the next following paragraph to the numeral paragraph. May be this requires regular expression or macro... I am not sure. 😵... Could you solve this 👆
Thank you so much the video illustration is superb. thank you once again. Now i want to hide the field code in the document, how can i hide the field code from the body of the document.
In the TOC, how would you "Capitalize Each Word" (Just the 1st letter of each word) in any of the levels? "Font" doesn't give that option. I can only do it by going through the HOME tab and selecting Aa, etc. Thank you kindly.
I had this same problem. Can't find the answer anywhere, but this video did as good of a job as possible in getting close. Maybe Word doesn't give that option out.
Thank you so much for this video, I thought I was crazy trying to figure out why I couldn't mark a rogue entry to be included, I kept doing it with the keys and nothing was working. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
Hi Deborah, can you do a video or answer this question, how do you make your number/letter linked heading jump to the next number/letter without manually applying the style. Like if you're doing a list that goes from a) to m) for instance? Is this possible? Thanks.
If you're using automatic paragraph numbering, pressing Enter should start a new paragraph with the next number/letter already in place. Is that not what's happening for you?
It is very important to point out that if by any chance some revisions are made in some of the articles titles or sections, they would not be automatically updated in the field you marked. You will have to also make the revisions inside the marked field or delete the field and mark it again so that your table of contents show the revised article or section changes.
Does this TOC technique help you with any of your documents? Let me know what TOC challenges you're having!
This is great but if my paragraphs are auto numbered - how do I get the TOC to include the paragraph number? When I to Alt+Shift+O it only includes the wording, not the paragraph number.
Automatically I mean - without me having to type a number in and so that it will automatically change if I add extra paragraphs.
Clear explanation.

So when I try this I can't get it to include my paragraph numbers in the TOC. It just includes the heading but not the number.

How do you set up on the TOC that you click on the a line, and it takes you to that section in the book

I learned a lot from your video on para numbering (Paranum1, 2, etc) styles . Can I create a TOC using those and not Heading styles?

How do I omit level 1 page numbers in TOC?
A M A Z I N G
Question: Can I use styles as well as manual addition of topic in a TOC?
Yes, you can mix them; you'll just need to be very clear about which entries appear at various levels.
@@DeborahSavadra Thank you very much.

True. If you want the title to update in the TOC, you'd need to revise the TOC field. That's one of the drawbacks.
this is what i've been looking for😭🫶
