    Every time I see documentary about this area (the whole of middle east and north Africa) and it's ancient history I feel like I know the people of that time.
    Thank you for the video.

    when I watch anything related to Iraq. I remember an Iraqi doctor who told me a lot about it, he was speaking with pain. it was a a place to study and discover and it was a glory for us and now just see how it became. something painful

    Subtitles go mad when they speak Chinese. Let's not glorify this time too much. The Iran-Iraq war was a pretty horrifying conflict itself. Hopefully peace will return to this land. I would love to see some of these sites one day (closest I've got is south east Turkey)

      Bullshit; it was westerners who started the agression towards the Arabs NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. It was the Americans who colonized the Iraq not the other way around. Iraq had jack shit to do with terrorism. Last I remember, the 911 attacks were committed by Saudis and Egyptians so why the fuck were they not invaded? Get your head out of your ass and stop being fuckin brainwashed; ignorant bastard.

      @Eko my comment was directed at the Iran Muslim leadership, I have Iranian friends that I would fight for that stand against the radicals in control of Iran

    For those who see the beauty in these women, it wasn't just "back then" and the television actually lessens their beauty by at least half. They are, more often than not, simply stunningly beautiful. One can almost understand the male desire to cover their faces up lest they tempt men to think untoward things. Of course, it's not really acceptable that they force it but the desire is something one can, sort of, understand.
    They are simply stunning in their beauty. To see them in person is so much nicer. They are, truly, lovely. The screen only captures the smallest of portions of that. If you get the chance to go, do not hesitate - go immediately and without regret. The people can be good or bad, like everywhere, but so many of the women are absolutely stunning. Yes, they're beautiful enough to risk a trip around the world just to see them in person.
    I wouldn't mind living there but I'm afraid they're not too keen on people who are not Muslims. I'm a Secular Buddhist (but not a monk or anything) so I don't think that they'd want me living there.

    too nice film...but I must say the intencity of background music is very much disturbing... is a barrier to hear the narrations clearly.

      I understand your reaction but most people disagree with you. Music is never neutral, here they chose to make it a significant part of this art work, and i think it adds more to the originality and experience than it covers. I agree that the mix volume is high.

    @11:20 I thought something completely different when I saw it. It's blue sure, maybe representing the waters of the Tigris, but it was erected during the war, and looks like the dome of an Islamic mosque cut in two, separated but facing each other as if in a dance. To me, that represents the Shiite and the Sunni factions, separate but still united peacefully under the same religion, worshiping the greatness of the same Allah.

    • @jeshika22
      @jeshika22 10 років тому +1

      I edited my comment. I didn't mean to offend, I just thought that whoever said the meaning of the monument was just the blue waters of the Tigris was probably afraid of consequences of by saying something as controversial as it representing two kinds of Islam. I mean, why else would the sculptor make two halves of a mosque, and at that time in that place? It must be representing two kinds of Islam.

    • @jeshika22
      @jeshika22 10 років тому

      Actually the two factions exist because one believes and accepts the cousin of the prophet Muhammad to be like a second prophet (or something along those lines), and the other does not. Of course there are probably many other differences and political, territorial, wars have erupted between them but very basically speaking, the two factions exist because of this "cousin of the prophet Muhammad" and whether he's also a prophet or not.

      ok, I'll try for a bit, but then you'll need to do your own reading.
      Ali and his sons were the true heirs to Mohammeds empire.
      After Mohammeds death, there was a power struggle and the rebels (the Sunnis) won and killed Ali's sons.
      A large portion of muslims (current shias) didn't accept the coup that had taken place. and 14 centuries later, they still don't accept it. That's why the sunnis are out to silence, or preferably completely destroy them because they know Islams dirty secret. Which is:
      The coup regime that the sunni rebels put into place, still hold the highest seat in Islam: they are in control of Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem (partially in any case).
      So my friend, it's all bloody political games and unresolved issues. This war will go on for another thousand years. Make No Mistake!
      For the rest, plz read some ;)
      in case u r wondering I'm not a shia.
      I'm an Atheist. an ex sunni

      mr jeshika let me enlight you , this is a monument built by saddam hussain to dignify the soldiers who had been killed in the 1st gulf war with iran , it had nothing to do with sunni-shii conflict
