  • Majuli is such a peaceful and calm place that if you travel here, you will love in love with this world’s largest inhabited river island, located at a distance of 350 km from Guwahati, Assam.
How to reach Majuli: You can take a ferry from Nimati ghat Jorhat, ferry charges and other details along with how we have spent our full day at Majuli below.
Majuli Prashanti Eco Tourism Resort: We stayed here at the night.
    Akhoi with Milk
    Address: Doria Gaon, Assam 785104
    Google Map Location - tinyurl.com/y6...
Room tariff: Rs 2600 per day.
Sri Sri Auniati Satra: This is among the most popular satra of Majuli. Satra is place of worship of God, like Hindu temple but this place is where Vaishnavites live,
Satra is also a place where lot of cultural activities take place.
    Address - Auniati Chapori N.C., Assam 785106
    Google Map Location - bit.ly/2Vcmrrd
Uttar Kamalabari Satra: This is among the top 3 satra of Majuli. There was a time when there were about 65 Satra in Majuli but due to sand erosion most of them have moved land areas.
As of now there are about 32 active Satras in Majuli. You can see cultural activities and folk dance at this satra. They charge about Rs 3000 for one hour cultural programme for guests.

Bor pitha (Rice powder & Gud)
    Poha Dahi
Missing Food: we had the following food items at her home.
    Jhilmil saag with tomato
    Aloo pitika roasted
    Plantain flower with aloo
    Purang apin (sticky rice)
    Black daal
    Email I'd - pmaatu@gmail.com
If you are looking at going to Majuli, you should plan it between Oct to feb, other wise its hot over there, plus monsoon time you should avoid.
Water level at Majuli rises during monsoon, many land areas at Majuli come under under water. If you are a tourist you should look at avoiding your travel to Majuli during monsoon time.
Over the years land area of Majuli is going down because of constant soil erosion. Government and other authorities are trying to save Majuli as a heritage. It had a area of 880 sq km at the beginning of 20th century, now its 352 sq. km as of 2014.
Do share your experience about Majuli, i will look foward to hear back from you in this regard.
    Thanks, harish bali

Worked for almost 3 years in assam... Their hospitality is legendary... Very friendly and believe me anywhere you go or anyone you meet... Eventually you will land up for a lunch and dinner invite... Actually from Karnataka after several months spent there eating their food... I was longing for daal and rice for breakfast rather than idlis and dosas... And hats off Mr Bali... You are one of the very few UA-camrs who are transparent within... Great work... Lots of love to the people of Assam from Karnataka...

I went to that mask shop and hung out there for a bit. The guys that work there are really nice. I remember being impressed by the mural there. I didn't have a driver so I had to hitch-hike back and I got picked up by these two nice young men driving a truck. They didn't speak a word of English, but they were awfully nice. It's always interesting to see the same places I have been and then see how different Mr. Bali's experience is from mine. Even though I had good experiences with my meals, Mr. Bali usually seems to do much better.
I'd love to share a meal with him one day when I return to India. I started traveling there in 1986 and would love to sit and chat about how much India has changed and the way it used to be traveling back in the day. It used to be really rough, and now, at least for me, it's cake.

@@visa2explore yes...she might have misheard. Thanks for reading my comments and replying to them. Sometimes you give mischievous expressions... You have one child alive within you and it helps you to live your life happily in this cruel and selfish world.
God bless you and your family.
