- A new series where I will cover various games I have played in ranked with different ships, highlighting good and bad moves of both myself and my team, as well as trying to show my thought process behind many of my moves.
Let me know if you guys would like to see a series of this kind with various ships this season, like blyska, shira, nagato etc as I work my way through them!

Gneisenau embodies Wargaming's idiotic mantra: "RNG adds tension and excitement!"
Gneisenau at shorter ranges seems to suffer from RNG all the time. But at 12km+ it's incredibly accurate.

I had a battle not too long ago where our Sims vs 1 enemy was left, the Nagato, was domination, we had a big point advantage and the sims just managed to nail the nagato with 2 torps. then the sims went behind a few an island a few kms away and just started sitting there. we were all screaming for him to run but he just sat there, even when the nagato's spotting plane showed up over him it took him a good 15 seconds to realize what was going on, then suddenly the nagato appeared full broadside and deleted him. definitely some "special" players in ranked for sure. maybe it has something to do with WG giving out extremely OP ships to anyone who fails enough times and gets carried to rank 1.
eh... no. The DD caps first and can run down the score. Points are gained much faster in ranked than in standard play.
How? DD always has all the advantage in late game, especially when your team is up in points.

Man, listening to you, I think I just learned more about WoWS than I have all my time playing. I love how you explain why you are doing what you are doing. You seriously deserve a LOT more subs than you have. Absolutely awesome job!
Definitely please do!!! Love your vids, I def like learning finer points of game play from watching and listening to your analysis of others game play. I have made ranked 15 with my Shira and my Scharn. and was leery of using other ships due to the its not broken don't fix it mantra. thanks for all the work you put into our game, Flamu, Keep up the good work.

I managed to reach rank 7 mostly plaiying me belfast and nagato but at some point you get this matches where there is so mutch smoke you don't see any ships at all for 10 min and it's realy frustrating

Exceptional job Flamu, I personally don't like fighting Scharn close range in the Gneis, but you showed everyone how it can be done.
I think this is a nice idea, it'll be a really helpful series for those who only recently started the game and want to get into ranked.

this is the stronger ship.... since enemy team will rush to the objective, so is your team. this BB is better fight at close range than nagato... you don't get citadel.

Watching the first time taught me several useful things, especially about parking next to a landmark in smoke. However, I realized that you used all 5 Repairs so went back and watched again to see when you used repair. That massive Potential Damage # shows how well you manage your HP. I rarely use all of my heals and need to improve on that. Thanks!
Yes please. I played some Nagato and Scharn last night in ranked and did pretty well for myself with an overall average damage of 74k over 17 battles. I've been holding off on playing anything else for the time being.
for me personally I'd rank the gneisenau at no. 1 for ranked BBs, simply because she can keep up with the cruisers and has torps. Nagato has the range and accuracy yea, and can brawl, but she can easily be left behind or take alot of damage from focus fire before she can lumber into cover, and the same goes for the Colorado. Gneisenau at least can dictate engagements better because of her speed. Not to mention her torps can come in extremely handy in close quarters when needed. Her secondaries are also arguably the best at T7. She is just so much more flexible than the other non premium BBs at ranked, in my opinion.
Argee , the secondaries are teaching you how to Bismarck but the armor is not as strong , YET.
Flamu you're playing NA ranked?! I sure hope you end up on my team and not the enemy's. thanks for these vids they help a lot, I love to watch more guides like this and I would love it if you did like an "overview" for the good and bad ships in the game for pubs like you did with the ranked ships.

Interesting - you play the Gneisenau very similarly to how I play it, albeit I haven't got it quite as refined as you have. I think my two biggest bugbears about the ship is its guns (dispersion and low number) and the turning radius - Bayern was slower, but I found its rudder far more responsive. That being said, I reckon it's a very tidy ship, and in CQC against other battleships, it shines (so long as you don't come under intense HE fire and lose your torp tubes).

Rocking the Mahan in ranked at the mo. No losses yet and definitely pulling my weight. Last game I went to a cap and both enemy dd's turned up and I killed them both and badly damaged a BB before I died.
I like this detailed breakdown of the ships and there place in the meta, but I feel like Rank 11 and higher is kid-gloves. Maybe focus on the Rank 10 and lower meta?
im agree with you. this rank season i see many ppl just rushing without thinking what the next. and when i see people like that i am just waiting them to make a mistake while stay safe.
i think this season just not as great as last season, it is just not that hard.
This is why I rarely play the Gneisen or Sharn. I feel helpless to often with that dispersion. I can never get shots to land when I need it...even at ranges sub 5k. You just never know if you will get any hits or get lucky and hit 1 shot with the rest bracketing the enemy.
I've heard a lot of negativity about the Gneisenau (I see the Scharnhorst too, but I dont have it). If you load out your commander and modules for gun performance and secondaries, leave the Gneisenau on the A hull and install the rudder shift boost module, the Gneisenau is an absolute monster. For example, I've only played this season ranked for 2 days, I leveled up 2 times after 45 minutes of gameplay because of the gneisenau. Most games I'm between 60,000-90,000 damage dealt, however last night, guns only, 174,000 damage dealt in ranked battles with the Gneisenau, vs Nagato's and their squishy citadels. I had 7 citadels against 2 nagato's that match. I tried running the colorado, no thanks. After seeing the Nagato's squishiness, no thanks. And as far as cruisers, why would I even waste my time with cruisers when the gneisenau decked out with captain skills and rudder shift with a secondary build and main battery accuracy boost feels like a big cruiser, but battleship guns and battleship armor?
The only game I have sat back a little with my Gneisenau was one that had 5 DD's, the opp BB charged in and died quickly.

Good stuff. Though I use Rush and also AFT instead of manual AA since that serves double purpose and CVs are not that common in ranked, or at all.
Sure but that is only useful when you have a CV in the game. AFT is useful always. Both secondaries, which are quite good, and for AA. So tbh I don't see why Manual AA is better, in fact I would call it situational
I use the AFT as well, exactly for the same purpose.

where can i change my crosshair to this one flamu uses? i cant find it in aslains modpack and also not in the gameoptions.. maybe i am blind?
Seems like one of those games where it's: how many damage do i need to do before you potatoes can win?
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm receiving the impression that you're treating both HE damage and Fire damage as "light damage" i.e. 100% heal-able. If so, please be reminded that HE damage is treated the same as AP normal pen damage, which means only 50% can be healed.
Once a ship fades in smoke the mouse cross starts to move according to my own speed. So I have to move the cursor to stay in place. Wonder why urs stays in place without a target?
I just wish I could get good teams. I've bounced around between 10-12 over and over. It's brutal.
I use a secondary build with 7.6km range for my Gneisenau and it works quite well, I often get Close Quarters medals and 10-20k secondary damage. Thoughts on this?
I really don't like this season:
my stats really went down and I am still on rank 15 my starting rank. On top of that I think there are much more guys who don't really know what they are doing so it doesn't make that much fun as the last ones.
I think there should be tier 8 battles again.
How about a video discussing strategies for Ranked on Epicenter?

How do you a make a BB work in ranked, it doesn't have smoke or radar

I was wondering the same thing. I think he is just switching to the map and back quickly to see what way the Nagato is heading and to see if he is turning ect. Not sure though.
mashing "M". Since the M button shows the overall map and its animation is panned upwards, it can be exploited as if u have a spotter plane

What rank is this game? It seems like a rank>10 considering the cruiser lineup (or maybe NA is ignorant of the ranked meta lineup?). Ive reached rank 9 now and this season ranked battles are dominated by fiji and belfast which make the games a ridiculous smoke n radar camp fests. Shiratsuyu seems like the only viable counter.

I love the way Flamu always thinks he's right. Like the start when he talked about snowflakes doing their own thing. Later in the video he didnt like the team pushing the enemy cap so he did his own thing and said they were wrong. :) Which is it Flamu? Great videos but I think you do suffer something I am awful at....thinking I know best ALL the time :)
Well they needed points and his team was closer to B than A and should have just defended it, it would have probably been a win if they all turned back, although I do agree with you sometimes Flamus ego is a little too big and he does make mistakes but this time he was actually correct lol
I've recently unlocked the genisenau and I am sooo disappointed, can't hit a ship at 5k any advice on how to play it?
Try doing this, go 1/2 speed steady, and only fire when you are at 0 rudder (totally neutral). Don't take my word for it, try it out for yourself; fire when you are turning slightly and going full speed, then fire at half speed and at neutral rudder, you will be stunned at how much of a difference it makes.
Nice match breakdown. But how can you not build for the secondaries? Gneisenau basically has an Atlanta strapped on top of her. Add manual secondaries and you will increase her damage output by a 1/3.

I can't deal with the RNGuns on the RNGneisenau... I just... can't. It is just zero fun to me to line up the perfect waterline shot and have half the shells of your pitiful 6 guns hit the water far short and the other half overshoot the superstructure by dozens of meters - at 5km range. Especially in tight life-or-death situations like your salvo on the Fiji.
With a full secondary build even those aim better than the main guns LOL
Had 15 yes 15 defeats in a row in ranked yesterday and was top of the team every single damn time... my matchmaker is so screwed i swear. Always putting me with idiots.

I know your pain its happen'd to me too 3 days in a row :( we just have to keep trying to educate the public to play properly ... good luck on the high seas.
This is why I just avoid ranked. Had ten losses in a row where some potatoes in Belfasts, Scharnhorsts and Atlantas kept trying to do their own thing instead of sticking with the team.

Well Bismarck is better but I wouldn't sell a Gneis to get it, try and have them all =\
i must admit i loved the gneis...but after some times i sold it, just beacause i was never playing it. i'm using the sharnhorst in ranked whit quite success. i can delete destroyers and cruisers and still be able to kill nagatos (looks like that if you don't kill destroyers nobody does). what really trigger me is when the enemy battleships start shooting HE all game. goddamn.
Took your advice and I'm using the Belfast from my first ranked season. I've gotten to rank 13 but am stuck there - usually because at least one or two members on my team just go rushing in and get overwhelmed and killed right away.
Battleships are all very strong unless being played by a complete potato...says the potato god Kappa

You are not a good BB player. you get 2700k potential damage,it doesn‘’t mean you absorbed 2700k for your team. the most part of potential damage you getting is from nearly end the match, which is kind useless for your team. I was very disappoint with your BB play style.
