To purge the air I believe the FSM says to raise front and turn the wheels lock to lock 10 times without starting the vehicle. Then you check fluid and start engine.
There are several of these on UA-cam, but yours is by far the best. Removing the water reservoir and the coolant hose makes this *so much easier* - thanks!
One of the best car repair videos I've ever seen.
Thank you
Very informative video I especially noticed how you told everyone watching what size socket to use.
Awesome thank you it’s more visual easy to use stand. But where can I get a drill like yours? I want one.
Brother, thank you. I used this today, step by step, (although my belt was still intact) to replace my pump. Top notch!
You're welcome brotha
Thank you for sharing , most defiantly on of the Best repair videos online.

Hello..do you know the part number of the o ring and the other little gasket?becuase my power steering pum is good is just leaking from the joint between the pump and the receivor.
Greatly appreciated. O ring info was of importance.
Brand replacement?
Awesome video. But... what's up with all that screaming in the background?
IV had 3 different ppl put on 3 different pumps and it still leaks out what's going on here
Good job
Used this video just now the pump worked at first but now it is not turning at all did i do something wrong
What was the cause of the replacement did u have a bad leak
Really good video, thank you.
To bleed the system you just put it in the air turn it on and turn the wheels back and fourth a couple times correct? Then shut it off and let the air come out then it should be good?
Yes, some of these dodge pumps you may have to use vacuum to the reservoir also with the vehicle off in order to get all the air out. They are picky sometimes in my experience
@@FixItPhillip ok thank you very much!
I have the 2000 Dodge Durango 5.9….is it the same process as this video? My reservoir isn’t plastic it’s I think like rusted out aluminum. How would I know if it’s my steering pump that failed or my rack and pinion?
What type of light is that you're using? Nice video, I have to replace my 2000 dakota pump and fortunately it looks pretty straight forward.
I seen you used ATF +4 transmission fluid. Is ATF +4 transmission fluid what's recommend to fill the power steering?
For this vehicle atf+4 is what it calls for for the power steering
That's transmission fluid or power steering fluid
Atf+4 is trans fluid, which for this model and year is for the power steering fluid
The pulley is made of plastic? What the hell Dodge?!
Great video

Let's say the Seals on the Pump is bad only.. Is there a Rebuild kit for the pump..?
Technically im sure it can be done, ive never rebuilt ps pump internally, for the price of the new or rebuilt aftermarket pump nowadays is usually pretty inexpensive and usually has a lifetime warranty.
if your leak is from the actual pump itself i would change it, if its leaking from a oring like from the fluid reservoir to pump, or from a pressure line to pump oring you can change thise out if you like.
@@FixItPhillip Throwing Oil from the Front shaft seal... looked for a reseal kit none on line... New Unit $123.00 with Reservoir..
If it was me in would replace it
Good luck brotha thank you for the question, please be sure to Subscribe, much appreciated!
@@FixItPhillip After 19 years and just over 150.000 miles I have the Original Factory Accessory Drive Belt When I bought the Truck New... All I have ever done is change the pulley Bearings or pulleys... Tension or Idler... Has cracks in the grooves but no chunks missing..
How did you manage to take the radiator hose off like that with out dumping coolant everywhere
Its the upper hose. Not much will come out of it it being at a higher point not much will come out usually
Well done, well lit, clear descriptions, very helpful
Thank you I'm happy it helped, please be sure to subscribe, much appreciated!
Dont suppose the bolts are in same location on an 07 as they are on 2000-04?
I believe its similar design but possibly not exact. I do know the ps pump on a 07 still has the 3 main bolt design behind the pulley that connect the ps pump to the engine. If i had a 07 here i would check for you lol
FixItPhillip yeah there’s hardly anything on 3rd gen Dakotas on here, mines got that getrag238 in it and I had to do the clutch no vidyaos on doin a clutch on one these trucks but it’s straightforward enough as if it’s any other manual transmission... joined a group of 3rd gen Dakota n them guys that do their own work or post issues with theirs would be great to be slapped up on UA-cam as well... I have always been a fan of these little trucks even though they have problematic, take that back my 3rd gen has been problematic vs the 1st gen and 2nd gens I have owned. Would have been nice to get some aftermarket parts for these trucks too they been out long enough
@@SmudgyContent i will definitely post some 3rd gen repairs if i get them in brotha. Be sure to Subscribe please. Good Luck with your truck brotha and thank u for watching
too dark. can not see
What is that tool that you are using to drive the bolts?? And how much does it tend to cost?
A Milwaukee 3/8 ratchet and a Milwaukee 3/8 impact gun. The ratchet uses the m12 batteries and the impact is the m18. Plz be sure to Subscribe, much appreciated!
They are roughly 200 to 300 each
Please fly down to where I live and replace my power steering pump for free and at your own expense (buy all parts yourself), and do it all with your bare hands (no tools), thanks in advance.
