I struggle with dotted quarter notes, followed by an 1/8th note ....I guess that is common thingy with new students....I have to concentrate so hard to get hit the 1/8 key on time that I have been forgetting to listen to the metronome...(I use the one built into the keyboard). And, when the 1/8th note is a different note than the dotted quarter I have to concentrate that much harder on the fingering....I will see if I can focus more on the metronome more....
I'm so glad you are trying to listen to the metronome! Sometimes when working with a metronome, I tell students, don't worry about hitting the right notes.. just listen to the metronome and get the rhythm as accurately as you can. We can fix the notes later. :) Closing your eyes for a couple bars can help you hear the metronome better as well!
Excellent information about using the metronome. Can you believe that I have never owned one? Now, I guess I have one built in to my digital piano, but I never use it. Now that you've taught me some, maybe I will try some of your tips!
However, it is not explained how to use metronom while playing piano or learning a piece on practice sitting at the instrument and pushing keys the right way. A big chunk of theory goes separetely from playing on the background of a ticking metronom...
I would start with 1 metronome click on every single eighth note (6 clicks per bar), then once you are ready for a faster tempo, one click for half the bar (which would be dotted quarter notes in 6/8). Thanks for watching!
@@onlinepianolearning For example I searched for “Nothing else matters” tab and I don’t know why every quarter not is chosen for metronome(71 bpm). however, like you said I tend to use every dotted quarter not. That’s why I got complicated.

Using metronome for 6/8 time signature pieces is complicated. Could you tell me which notes should be chosen for metronome?

Interesting that the digital metronome clicks at the left and right a, while the treditional metronome clicks at the CENTER.
