    93 LS400 owner here
    Pros
    - Extremely handsome car, stock, VIP built, etc.
    - Stock spring/air ride suspension hold up extremely well in all conditions and ride like a cloud on wheels
    - Dead reliable, strong overbuilt 4.0 V8 engine
    - get's between 18-26 MPG combined/hwy if that's good enough for anyone
    - Lexus paint jobs do not fade easily! They are extremely durable paint, especially the pearl white/gray combo
    - Interior is wonderful
    - Every adjustment is power (minus the headrest tilt, but they are power up and down)
    - Pioneer sound system from base factory, Nakamichi for premium upgrade. Both hold up extremely well to this day, my 30 year old pioneer system with OEM H/U is crystal clear and sounds phenomenal.
    - Timing belt engine, extremely smooth
    - etc.
    Cons
    - Parts are getting hard to find, best bet is rebuilding parts, trying your luck at a pull-a-part, or trying to get parts off a part car in another state. Many AEM parts made for this car such as power-steering racks just do not hold up.
    - The power steering systems on these cars fail often, power steering rack is a big failure on the LS400's, and the rubber axle boots will balloon with PS fluid and risk tearing when this happens, the PS pump is a two piece unit that has a gasket sealing the back half together that fails, and there was a poor design choice to place the alternator underneath the PS pump.
(If the PS pump fails, it risks leaking PS fluid ontop of the alternator causing many electrical issues, and even destroying the alternator.)
(The power steering pumps on the LS400 ONLY have what is called an ACV "Air Control Valve" The purpose of this little $30 valve is by using vacuum it allows the car to steering easier at slower speeds. This part commonly fails, and when this part fails there are two vacuum lines from this part that attach to a hose nipple on the front of the intake manifold, and a little hose nipple on the air "breather" pipe that connects the filter/MAF to the throttle body/Intake. When this ACV fails you risk the vacuum sucking power steering fluid straight into the intake causing the car to either run funky, or smoke a ton of white smoke. This ACV can be easily deleted if desired.
    - If the PS fails, it's a difficult part to find OEM, or just have it rebuilt. If the STARTER MOTOR FAILS that is a tedious job! It is located underneath the intake manifold, and with having smog/canisors/EGR systems equipped it is a pain in the A** to get to this starter, and replace it. They luckily do not fail very often but god bless when it happens.
    - Timing belt, model years 1990-1994 are NON-Interference engines, but should the belt go unserviced, and fail can still cause much damage. 1995-2000 are Interference, if the belt fails the motor is toast, it will be 10x more costly to rebuild the upper end of the motor than to have just serviced the timing belt.
    - Fuel pump ECU/Engine ECU. The fuel pump ECU tends to go bad after some time causing idle issues, or even the car stalling in traffic at random. This is a very easy bypass by simply connecting to wires together and running the pump at fuel power 100% of the time. (It does not drastically lower the life of the pump hardly at all)
(ENGINE ECU!!!! ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORS, THESE ARE PRONE TO FAIL! YOU MUST REPLACE THESE ASAP IF THEY HAVE NOT BEEN DONE)
(To do this is very simple, pull the ECU from the glove box, pop it open. Broken or leaking capacitors? Take it in to a local reputable computer shop asap and have new capacitors put on. These capacitors leak acid, and over time this acid WILL DAMAGE the circuit board, and destroy the ECU. Good luck sourcing a new one in good shape for a good price. These capacitors don't take much to replace, they sell kits online for these, or a shop can get the part locally and do this.)
(Symptoms of a bad ECU can be anything such as. Car stalls, idles poorly, dash needles flickering/not working, car misfiring, etc. For anyone who buys an LS400 PLS PLS PLS change these capacitors before it's too late. It will save you so much headache.)
    - Dashboard gauges failing, or loosing their electroluminescence lighting. There are shops you can ship your dashboard cluster to have these rebuilt.
Overall, the cons may seem like a lot, but don't let it deter anyone from buying an LS400. These cars are gems, and Toyota was extremely proud of them. These are cars that just need love, even on a budget when things need replaced these cars will always take care of you, so long as you take care of it back. I love my 93 LS400 to death and I will always buy another one so long as I can.
Hope this helps LS400 owners diagnose their issues, or anyone looking to buy one things to just be-ware about. These cars are old, they will need care. They're absolutely worth owning.

this the comment right here basically everything you said is what’s needed to know about these cars and honestly for a car between 23-40 years of age you’re only doing the basic maintenance you’ll probably end up doing on a car 10 years old anyway lol

We both have the same age LS400. I've only been using mine for a little over a week ( I brought this as I'd always wanted a V8 and in the UK there kind of rare ) and your so right its just Smoooooooth . I own quicker cars but in this I never feel any need to rush any place I drive so much slower in this . And top marks on getting it sorted out as you said you use that car to get to work and you need to have faith and trust it :) . I've just done an oil change, cabin filer ,replaced some old crappy bulbs but next weekend I'll swap out the plugs, air filter and drop out the cheap oil I've used as a flush and put something better in. Only thing I'm struggling with is finding some one to service the cam belt and water put as I don't fancy that job myself much . Thanks for video I look forward to the next one .

Very comfortable ride, yes. I have put a lot money into my '95 LS 400. Power steering fixed, new timing belt, a few alternators, a few starters, camshaft seals, full tune-up, a new stereo, and a few smaller problems here and there. I think I put in about $10k in repairs over the past ten years, but to me it is worth it because it is like sitting on a sofa, as you said.

I would be honored to possess the original example that challenged the status quo of luxury cars. This vehicle delivered fit to finish smoothness that successfully blended the elegance of Mercedes and the performance of BMW. Even though Infiniti rolled the pinball along the trunklines and doors in its commercials, Lexus could balance champagne glasses on its running engine.

The reason why bro spent a lot of money on maintenance is because the previous owner didn't take care of it. And since he's the one doing all the maintenance people start say and thinking stuff like "it's not reliable" well no shit if you bought it from a trashy owner. all cars a trash if you don't maintain them but some don't need much other than just oil changes like all toyota and lexus cars
I am also planing to buy a 1998 model to put a BN sport body kit and ofc all the maintenance to start off with😂
