Instead of him saying, I, I, I. He keeps saying, “My team did this. My team did that.”. That says a lot about this Chef.
DarkSouljah practice for the speechlol
He's a nice guy
@@tanakorn111 lmao
@@tanakorn111 LOL nice and true !
@@tanakorn111 :) There's no I in team, but there is a ME!
Now chef Mural is more famous than all the doctors in his family. Congrats for breaking the typical Indian mold and following your heart. Way too many young Indians' dreams and aspirations are killed by their parents.
Way too many..I feel it.
i feel it too man, too true
why do Indians are like that? I wanna know, do they pursue engineer or lawyer or Doctor for fame and reputation in their land?
@@andrew2324g Status to some extent and money. Pretty damn sad.
Leonid Indian parents are very risk averse. First reason being they want their children to earn lots of money for the family and for them to have a structured life. What they don’t know is that things are changing and that you don’t need to be a doctor to earn lots of money. Second reason being that it’s all about status. Who’s son is better than the other one or daughter vice versa. Really really bad mindset they all have. They care more about what other people think rather than what their own children think. You get the general gist of it.
He broke the doctor pressure. I rate him 💯
So do I. Asian families need to stop those pressures as it is holding us back in sport, entertainment and other professions. About 50% of doctors in the Uk are Asian and they are not good as they go into the profession for the prestige and not to help people.
Being a doctor or engineer is a respectable and intelligent profession; instead he chose to make Roti like a woman. Nothing to be proud of.
@@IshanSanyal dumbest comment ever
Tongkat Ali-Activ Plus agreed lol i would love to see him make a comment like that in a restaurant
Ishan Sanyal you are an idiot and good luck with finding a wife! I bet he earns more than his siblings who are doctors!
The first step to professionalism is to be grateful for bad feedback.
Wow thats so true
Rabascan I believe a more appropriate term is critical feedback.
Big respect to this man for pushing against his family and doing what he wants.
With all the connections he has from his family how couldn't he become successful lol
i 2nd it. i tried to drop out of accounting to become a chef and my entire family even relative of my relatives called me telling me how stupid I was. there calls where nothing but emotional blackmail. in the end, i had to give in and continue accounting. it was too much.
Totally agree....
It's easy to be against your family and do what ever you want, but it's hard af to prove they were wrong and be a successful
Cheese Burger ur not wrong
"Food is not about North or South, Food is all about overall experience"
Exactly 💯✔️❤️
Literally the first Michelin restaurant not serving tiny portion in big dishes. Total respect for that.
Also the chef is humble
Alise Brus it is quite tiny they haven't mentioned the price
@@artivedi3887 Have you ever eaten at a Michelin restaurant? That's one portion of a menu. You pay for course meals. It could be 3 course, 5 course, even 12 course. Michelin restaurants are deemed best because they give us flavors that are out of this world. Not like a frikkin Udupi restaurant.
Sanjog K. You still didi tmention price mad entire course thing ..ofcourse I have not eaten I saw the one portion ..courses I never comment..sorry if it hurts
There are hundreds of Michelin starred restaurants that have typical a la carte menus. People go to them for their tasting menus as that is the real experience of the restaurant.
@@sanjogh777 I'd take a decent humble masala dosa from a good Udupi restaurant over a michilin starred restaurant. Its a matter of personal preference. Not everyone likes tiny portions of pretentious food. Ultimately, a restaurant fails in its goal if an eater comes out hungry.
This is very inspirational, you can really feel the struggles he has been through. He should be proud and so should his family.
With all the connections he has from his family how couldn't he become successful lol
UniversalChat Chat also true 😂
@@unvcht5046 What connections? 4 small town doctors?
@@gachanta $300k x 4 you do the math. That's enough bto make alot of connections
@@unvcht5046 You think small town doctors in India make $300K a year? Seriously?
Such a humble guy, despite the level of success he has achieved. Big respect for this man.
It shocked me how honest and self deprecating he was when he said he used to put too much salt in his food.
You never hear a top chef share stories like that.
Then there's Ramsey.
I got goosebumps watching him just plain talking of what life experience he had been through.. i was very truly inspired by his belief he never stop believing himself and chase his desire. Im 24 years old still confuse of my identity i hope thru time i can find that success
Cheers bro, good luck in finding the focus you need!
Keep chasing that you desire for😁
Nicely said.
The only identity you need to associate or "identify" with is life! You are a "human being", just learn how to be. :) If you stop paying attention to the "goal" or "expectation" and instead pay complete attention to the "process", the result will automatically be fulfilling.
Maybe it was the background music
Total respect for this guy...
Imagine having to become a Michelin Star chef just to get respect from your parents...
Lmfao
Thats asian parenting for you
Lol, that his passion, all the award is just bonus of his hard work
Welcome to our world
Cos we get scolded for getting 100/100. Should always get 110/100.
Coming from Indian background I know exactly what he is talking about. In India your career is considered doomed if you are not a doctor or an engineer. He is an inspiration to many like me going against the odds.
The best part is he managed to succeed... even i went against all odds, but success wasn't as much
@@michellem4084 I believe its never too late. A lot of people have ambition and then they have dreams. But most stop when they get a job that pays bills and don't realize that you can always work upwards towards dreams. Ive come to this realization about 1.5 years back and still feel that I don't take enough steps to ensure my dream. But I say to myself even when things aren't good now, I will eventually get there. Of course I don't wanna reach it when Im 50 or anything cause then Id be too old lol.
Agreed. My family is full of doctors (uncles, cousins, even my brother) yet I have gone into the field of business admin lol. Talk about being an outside :) . Just do what you want to do, and not what others tell you to do is how I have went about my life and I have yet to have any regrets so far.
@@megaprimegamer1184 yeah... thinking about it.. i still have hope to find the success that i dream of in the field that i chose.. but, as time keeps going by you wonder how many years more????... and then there are those people who make you realise that you have made a mistake and should have gone the way the flock went. Anyway the decision was mine... only time will tell whether or not i would have regrets.
Stop exaggerating
When he said "this is from Nagaland" im like Wow .
whats up in Nagaland bro, hows the weather there?
@@Hades-tw4ql Nagaland is developing and the weather here is perfect .. Thanks for the concern brother
That he acknowledged ne india 🇮🇳 more power to him
Samee!!!
Basthenga op
Total respect for him.
I also went through something similar and none of my family supported me until I showed results. It’s not easy and felt terrible when you try and try and didn’t get much result. Glad that he made it
Can relate
4:25 I really loved the sentence, "food is not about North or south, it'sall about overall experience." Damn true., we can't draw a line when it comes to food.
Every job should be respected
As long as you do an honest work that isn't a detriment to society - it should be given due respect.
Yes, I'm a warehouse ops and it's a thankless job.
Dirty hands clean money
Tyler Mortan clean hands dirty money lol
SuperKnowledgeSponge I was about to point out theft
He is so humble man
Thank you for elevating Indian food to a higher level.
what an inspirational story. My son & I went to an Indian restaurant least monthly for 15yrs in San Diego, CA, run by a lovely older Indian couple, unfortunately they sold up and new owners ran it into the ground & it closed approx 2rs ago. How I wish I could live in Singapore, just the ambiance of this story is appetizing.
Sir, congratulations to you and your team on your phenomenal achievement.
I am just a regular guy who eats home and the occasional hawker stuff.
This year on my birthday I am gonna treat myself to dinner at your restaurant.
let us know how the food was
scotts rd has some of the very best of restaurant, not just because they caught the eyes of the michelin guide but because they are genuinely and wholeheartedly good.
There are millions of doctors all over the world but only few Michelin star restaurant. Regardless your profession one has to be good at his/her own game. You have proven that with hard work and perseverance one can achieve professional height. Good on you
One day I will visit Singapore and I'll swing by chef Mural's restaurant.
it's a pretty g place, one of my favourite places in singapore
He mentioned Nagaland 😍😍
What stands out for me is his approach. His clientele is mostly Chinese and he is cooking things that are familiar and still new at the same time for them ⚡⚡🤘
man what a good guy. he almost cried at the end saying how his family is proud of him.
I'm a chinese but i love indian cusine so much. Sad to know most of my friends only know prata which is not only about that! Gonna swing by for his food. Looks amazing!
Another beautiful story ... Thank you for sharing...
Sending to my travel agent ... "MUST GET TO SINGAPORE!!!'
An excellent video. Well done! Always felt SOI was one of the top Indian fine dining restaurants in Singapore so am very happy they got recognized.
Lol my story is completely the opposite..!! I wanted to become a doctor but im stuck with running my family food business..!!
Customers are so demanding And government regulations is going overboard cant handle the stress man..! Have to work for 364 days year..!
Karma 59995 being a doctor is stressful too my friend. 365 days a week. You can’t even take a day off. Patients are extremely demanding and stress and workload have increased. Attacks on doctors have increased by mobs. Enjoy what you do my friend. Have a nice day
k p I just quit medical school because I cannot stand the life of a doctor. Food business is stressful too but much less crazy than being a doctor. It was traumatic for me but I had to quit otherwise I will not be able to live on any longer. That said I love medicine and there is nothing like it.
Look at the situation of doctors presently and you’ll understand. Every job has its pros and cons. Doctors are however getting hit and even killed by mobs just because 85 year olds die of heart attacks. So yeah. Very tough. And dangerous to life
@@kp9539 ME too. I m A Doctor, it's a Headache, but I Love it.
Jenima Rai same here. Surgeon. Loving every day of life. It’s stressful. Hectic. But most of all at the end of the days gets worth it when you see a patient smile.
Wow. You have my respect. Such love, passion & dedication. God bless.
A man with a dream and the strength & courage to see it through. An inspiration to all. Bravo!
Kudos to the story tellers!!!
May this video reache every student and parent on the planet.
24 crt example of not giving up when chips are down.
What a sweet sweet guy!
So much pressure from home, still he managed to find his passion and chase it to excellence. Wow!!
God has blessed his soul for sure!
It's changing nowadays, but eating out is traditionally not seen as a good thing in India, and restaurant chefs would not have high status or room to really experiment or brand themselves. Kudos to this guy for standing up for his ambitions and abilities, despite this.
im having a goosebump watching this, really inspiring and heartwarming..
Very inspiring. Thank you for sharing your story with the world. 🙏🏽
Mad respect to bro from a fellow Indian. I know how hard it must have been.
Beautiful story of perseverance and dedication. I look forward to trying his restaurant when I am in Singapore later this year!
Respect! Inspirational ! Emotional!!!
Amazing story all together...
Michelin 🌟 with Santorini playing in accompaniment, both borne out of extreme industriousness.

Massive respect to you chef 😀 we can feel the pain he went through, his love for his team and his passion towards cooking in his words
Lovely guy who followed his dream. Huge respect. Please open a restaurant in the UK!

The presentation of all the dishes are spectacular! Can't imagine how awesome the taste would be! Surely going to this restaurant when I visit Singapore!
I feel your story sir, as I have faced a similar dilemma surrounding my career choice due to family pressure. Great to see that you have stuck with your dream and worked hard on the implementation.
Well done. You did something not a lot of people do. You're a success. Congratulations and keep it up.
Such a humble man, keep rocking 🤟
Food looks amazing well done on not giving up on your dreams great chef great team.
He’s true about Indian parents wanting you to be either doctors or engineers, I’m Indian and always wanted to be a pole dancer and my dad wouldn’t have any of it 😢
K G wait what..
Ken Dao yeah he caught me twerking for instagram live one day and bashed me with a broom 😣
Have worked with him in Mumbai . Very down to earth and a calm minded chef .
What a nice man ............Bravo to him and his team
biggest respect to this man for following his passion and heart.
i have just so much respect for asian creatives; it's hard not to cave under academic pressures and expectations and to follow your passion in spite of the disapproval of your family
You getti up bro awesome vedio
Such a humble person.
Massive respect to you, Sir .. for following your passion, despite all the pressure !!
huge respect for this Indian Head Chef any restaurant would be lucky to have someone like this
Love seeing a chef who's adapted to the culture and surroundings, And embraced new ideas. Meeting the high standards that the Singaporeans have, truly a wonderful thing.
I'm so proud of this man! Respect!
Those dishes look amazing....
Eaten here. Beautiful place. Love to the chef. Wish I could work here Chef ! -An aspiring Indian Chef
You can tell that he loved what he was doing.
Respect is the First Emotion that I felt on experiencing this tough journey. I wish the "Respected Chef" Good Luck and His Resilience to "Win Stomachs" is Commendable. Should be Awarded a Padma Shri. And 15 years later be Honoured with something more Exalted: "Every Indian Enjoying a Treat at His Restaurant" Already Blessed by God and Us.
Very very inspirational!
the fact that who stood up for his passion says alot about him
well done mural - every indian should be proud - breaking away from tradition and trying new ways to make food - reminds me of the more daring indian chef in thailand Gagan
I like this guy, he spoke about his downfall, and what the reality of success is.
Respect from nagaland India
Well done Chef..! Outstanding achievement..💯💯💯
Wow nice to see your video sir I'm in hongkong.. and u said right all Chinese people love Indian food 🙏🙏
You sir, are a legend.
He's so humble.
I've never been able to eat whole spices or seeds but I love Indian food, this is my kind of restaurant
If you can't eat the way it's made here, sorry, it's not Indian
The chef is really a great person of strong will and ambition!
You Sir is the essence of Human existence and you are a luminary:)
What a gentleman! What an inspiring man!
I really enjoyed this video. He stuck to his passions, went at it alone without the support from family. It wasn't about proving anyone wrong, like he spoke about changing perspective in his food. He also changed the perspective in people. Moving to a different country combining different cultures & foods is a testament to his belief in himself, his team, their resilience & risk to change their menu, flavours to cater to the different palates, infusion & finding a good marriage of local traditional flavours & not losing the heritage or the essence of his Indian dishes. As a Vegan & someone who wants to venture into changing people's perceptions of food myself - I found this video & his message Beautiful❤
I had tears and goosebumps watching this man. Superhero and definitely the most famous member of his family. Today his father and brother’s might introduce themselves as the family member of the only Michelin star rated restaurant’s executive Indian cuisine chef. The tables have turned.
I’m from a traditional restaurant family and I’m not a restauranteur at heart. My family isn’t happy with me but someday I hope to become this man.
Pretty surprised to find so many haters in the comment section. I guess your successfulness is reflected by how many haters you have.
Love from india 😇
This dude is awesome! I hope he gets 3 stars.
I hope this man stays blessed
