Ted man!!!! I love your fish room!!!! Thank you for the awesome racking idea I have 12 tanks, 9 in my tiny apartment 3 at my brother's in his fish room.
I do not use CO2 in holding tanks where the plants will not be there for very long, because (in my experience) plants that are acclimating to new conditions are not growing at their fastest rates and would not be utilizing the gas, and that increases the chances of algae problems. Also (ime), plants in small aquariums can get plenty of CO2 from the atmosphere.
ooooh~ me like~ :) you not only have fish, but also plants! which is great!! hey buddy, what is your water parameter and temperature to breed otos? its awesome looking at them having babies!
Awesome! I love fish rooms. I hope to have one myself one day and learn from you. Also a reef! tank! please! that would be awesome and make the fish room even better!
Ted What sub-strait do you use in your fish room for your tanks? I tend to use unwashed pea gravel mix small and large granules because i like the looks it give on the bottom of the tank but i also like the looks of the stuff you are using. Also very nice layout and great looking fish room!
Hi Ted, new to the UA-cam fish keeper community. Saw your interview on SolidGold and heard you mention your fishroom has moved, but the one you just gave a tour of , if old, was terrific. Love the West Africans but never able to find any but the kribs and jewel cichlids available. (love both) One question I have is , in your experience, can jewels be kept in a community of appropriate robust cichlids and schooling species, say tiger barbs, or is a species setup best?. Largest I could do housing wise would be a 55g or 75g. tank. Thanks again.
+Mark Quadrozzi Hello Mark.... The most common red jewel in the hobby is H. guttatus or hybrids of that species and others, and they are very mean. There are several species that are not as belligerent. One of the best, and usually available, is the true lifilili. Most fish sold under that name are hybrids with guttatus and are very mean. You can find the real one sold as H. sp. 'Moanda' or H. cf. lifilili 'Moanda'. I have some right now: tedsfishroom.com/catalog/index.php?id_category=17&controller=category&live_configurator_token=71ce7b9f711aa97e1782d6fab48b3c73&id_shop=1&id_employee=1&theme=&theme_font=
Ted, your fish room is really amazing. The plants in the clay pots -- do you ever use plastic pots? I understand the function to be moveable between fish tanks.
Thanks for responding Ted. One more question if you don't mind. Do you not use carbon dioxide because you are only housing the plants temporarily or are the plants kept long term? Either way they really do look great and once again nice video.
+Truong Nguyen That is a matten filter... a solid wall of open cell foam with water being drawn from the back with a lift tube. I use Poret foam for matten walls, and get it at www.swisstropicals.com
+Ted Judy Hi, I'm running two of the largest sized Hagan sponge filters plus two of the largest Marineland hang-on-back filters. And that with lots of plants. In your opinion would the swisstropicals manhatten give more filtration than the Hagan ones?
Where do you get those sponge pads you use for the bubbler filters? Is like to install them in my tanks for emergency filtration in case of power outage.
Nice to have a place where you can just relax in your own hobby and escape from the day to day grind... Fish are a lot of work, however, well worth the effort ...
Subbed - Hello, you really seem to know what your doing? I have 4 Bolivian Rams (what I thought were all males) turned out to be at least 1 female. Woohooo!!!... Ok here is my questions: I am a 100% total newbie about egg layers well breeding in general. What I need to know is my Rams mated and layed eggs for the very 1st time since I have had the 4. (about 8 months). 99.9% hatched and the parents didn't eat 1 and moved them to a pit they dug and placed them in. My tank is NOT setup for easy retrieval of the fry and I had no idea they were a mating pair and layed eggs. Found them by accident while doing my water change and cleaning. I would not be able to get the fry now. So what I am considering doing is making a breeder tank setup for the next time if they lay eggs again. My big question is to you what I NEED and how to care for them? I did buy a new 10G with a new sponge filter and I have a seeded filter to get the sponge filter seeded for the future and have a heater and light. I was thinking of a bare bottom like you have in many tanks as well as some java moss with a couple of other pot planted plants if possible. I don't have a lot of extra money. Would very much appreciate your HELP!!! Thank you so very much in advance.
You are setting up a good tank to raise fry. Do not try to raise them all... only what you think that you will be able to find homes for. The pair will not stop spawning so long as the conditions are right, so if you try to save them all you will be overrun. You can siphon the fry out when they are free swimming... will not hurt them.
Ted Judy So, what I planned for the fry breeder setup is fine? Should I move the parents or leave them where they are? Could I use New life Spectrum Small Fry Food High Energy Micro food?
Very nice Ted. Amazing room. You accomplish a whole lot with a great variety of tanks. Especially digging the Jack Daniels in with the fish food.
Mr. Ted that fish room is like a dream come true.
Great fish and nice set up.
Hi Ted, I've allways liked your videos you have a great room, keeping fish is a great hobby, keep up the awesome videos from Matt Sydney Australia

Ted man!!!! I love your fish room!!!! Thank you for the awesome racking idea I have 12 tanks, 9 in my tiny apartment 3 at my brother's in his fish room.

North Jersey A. S.? I am not a member (I live in Wisconsin), but I know some members and will be doing some presentations there in the the Fall.

I like how a lot of the plants are potted, very attractive setup.

Also very nice layout and great looking fish room!
I use a mix of silica sand and size 30 red flint 'sand' in a ration of 4 parts sand to 1 part red flint. In planted tanks I use size 25 red flint.
Very cool. It looks like you have great stock on hand.

very beautiful fishroom, good luck for more.
Ted, your fish room is really amazing.
The plants in the clay pots -- do you ever use plastic pots? I understand the function to be moveable between fish tanks.
No problem with plastic pots, as far as I know.
Thanks for responding Ted. One more question if you don't mind. Do you not use carbon dioxide because you are only housing the plants temporarily or are the plants kept long term? Either way they really do look great and once again nice video.
Great video Ted!!!
I was wondering do you grow all of those plants without supplemental carbon dioxide?
Absolutely beautiful.

At 7:20, can I ask what kind of filtration that is? I see you grow algae on a foam pad, but I'd like to know what you use behind it.

I think I will leave the parents in there own home and just move the fry.
