I was super sad to see you leave Japan guide, but so stoked to find out that you moved to HK to cover the beautiful culture there. Hong Kong will forever be part of my cultural identity even though I’ve lived most of my life in America, but I am so honored that you are literally recording the remnants of its great heritage because there is bound to be unforseeable changes in the coming years that will alter its unique identity and loss of traditions.

I first went to HK as an 11 year old in 1979. I have roots there as many relatives escaping from Mao's China used it as a stopover before spreading out all over the world or staying there for good. My father escaped with my grandmother as he was being drafted into Mao's youth army. My grandfather was in Manila making a living and bought them a unit at one of the apartment buildings in North Point before joining him. We still own the place and my aunt still lives in the same unit with my cousins and I usually stay there when I visit. I have been back to HK since then many, many times and I can go around the main areas like a local. I consider HK to be the best city in Asia (next to Tokyo) for pop culture, clothes, and SPECIALLY, FOOD. My God. The food there is amazing. From the street to high end Michelin places. I have tried many of them. All good. But I still prefer mid level to street level food. To me, that is the soul of HK food. Not the fancy ones. I have not been there for years (too busy), but once the pandemic clears, I'm fucking buying tickets for me and family and will spend a couple weeks there to soak the place in again.

I used to live in Hong Kong. Love how you are covering the neighborhoods by tying each neighborhood’s history to the present day. It’s very touching that you are doing personal interviews with some of the notable fixtures in the neighborhoods. It really brings the fabric of the neighborhoods alive. I watched your vlogs about Japan travel. Didn’t know that you moved to HK. Hope you enjoy living there. HK is a bit more gritty compared to Japan.

This artist has the most beautiful caligraphy I have ever seen. The fact that he is self taught is even more remarkable. It is a damn shame that they are forcing him to leave. He won’t be able to afford the outrageous rents HK is known for. I hope he can pass his skills on to an apprentice, but I feel the younger generation doesn’t have the same appreciation for these arts. Thank you, Sam, for another video gem!

Thank you very match for this video! It passed almost 4 years i visited HK. And the place our family choose to to stay while being there was exactly North Point. I really liked this place with its people with its crowd with its soul. Really dream to visit HK and North Point as soon as it will be possible.
