So it’s almost like we have to read people’s minds 😊. English being my second language sometimes I miss the right phrases that people might use to look for something in particular. Thank you Christina, as always great information!
You can use AI like ChatGPT to help you come up with more keywords and phrases :) or do what I do and look up similar products on Etsy and find what keywords they use in their tags and titles
I sell digital downloads on etsy, does it count as a "new" item to etsy when I copy a listing and redo all the tags/description/images/etc for a new design? Hope that makes sense. It's like a shortcut for me and helps me upload more new items.
First of all I want to say that the content here is of a good level. My friend launched her shop in February this year and after testing a lot of things without results, I started to look at and filter the different people giving advice for Etsy. I kept 5 including this channel. We had decided not to talk about the shop to friends in the USA to understand the algorithm and generate sales via total strangers. About the alt text, at the beginning we tested with only the 1st image by filling in some listings and not others. When the interface changed in June / July we systematically filled in the alt text of all the images (we had been setting the maximum quota of authorized photos as well as videos since the beginning). So we have had an AB testing base since February with 2 types of algorithms (see three, Etsy is so vague, from the change on the delivery prices). The result: absolutely no impact. Concerning the keywords, we worked with the everbee and erank tools by testing, analyzing 50 stores that worked very well, we also tested classic keyword generation tools or in ai, respected the rule of titles and filled out the descriptions abundantly. We also tested all kinds of mock ups. To date there is only one rule: your conversion rate. And that's where you are in the fog as a new seller.
The local seller tag on a listing still appears. I noticed that Etsy does recommend/favor local sellers over others in your own state. I receive a lot more traction on buyers from my own state and surrounding states than others. I monitor all these metrics in all my listings. I have been on Etsy for about a year and a half and hit 6 figures in revenue last month.
I dont get that personally and reading the Etsy handbook for this video, it didnt mention location like it used to. I remember reading about location the first time I read the handbook but it didnt mention it anymore. I havent seen the local tag on my Etsy in FOREVER and I noticed that when you set location, it also doesnt mention getting a boost for local shoppers like it used to. THOUGH by seeing that you ship locally, nearby purchasers probably favor you anyway due to them expecting it deliver quicker and most likely falls under "shopper habits" though it doesnt explicitly say that anymore
@ I open up an incognito page and sign in on my regular Etsy account as buyer to see how my listings rank and I always see my listings as well as other local sellers with a tag on the thumbnail saying “Local”. I don’t buy anything on Etsy so I don’t think the algorithm is picking up if a buyer has a habit of buying locally. I have been racking my brain to figure out why my sales for November are down from last year. My shop does very well in all aspects with 0 packages shipped late, fast replies and high review rate with 500 five star reviews on 2,000 orders. Unlike a lot of my competitors, I always update my designs and list new products. I don’t want to disclose my niche since I already have quite a few copy cats of my best sellers.
Relevancy is so important. Long tail words still working I guess. As to shipping’s ranking… well, I am wondering how all us in Canada are doing with the Canadian Postal Strike affecting us and our Etsy numbers. I followed your ornaments video, thank you, and made personalized gifts for a few family members to check them out and ordered samples. They have been sitting at the border for three weeks. Ugh. Have you done any videos on who is delivery by UPS or DHL during the strike? I did get a mug through? That has to be hurting the Etsy algorithm for us all. Basically us north of the boarder have lost the momentum of quarter 4. 😢
It shouldn’t hurt your entire store no! But if overall as a whole your whole store has a low conversion rate then likely. But I have some listings that sell like crazy and then others that just never get sales
As a fairly new shop with no more than 70 listings - after turning on ads and having about 1800 views within a week but no sales - what should I draw from all this? Do better designs? Too soon to tell? Leave ads on longer and draw whatever you can from info even if no sales?
Do you know any information about what happens when someone follows your shop? For example, are they notified when you post new products? Does it just show up in their search? I've often wondered this
theyll see you more often in the search pages as youll rank higher for them, get notifications if they favorited your items if it goes on sale, they may see your new listings on their homepage and if they use the app they MAY get notifications about new products or sales you run though I have the app and havent seen this
not sure if anyone else is getting this low visibility score on main photos using the mockups from printify themselves ...? says low resolution ...is printify a partner with placeit or something
I never use photos from printify or placeit! I create all my own mockups! I’d only use placeit for non apparel mocks like mugs or pillows that always look the same
I have a seasonal product that goes on fire during the holidays. I think it's because of the image of the ornament ( It's not a "Christmasy" image ) Should I put that image on other things? And if so, wouldn't that look like a "this is a print-on-demand" product?
Yes put it on new things in new listings! This is a strategy I do a lot. If I get a bestsller on one product, I'll add it to other products that it works on and often those also sell!
What is the name of your etsy store? If I had a UA-cam channel I was investing a ton of marketing money into I certainly would not miss an opportunity to promote my etsy store while I was at it. Funny how it's nowhere on your website. I would certainly not miss an opportunity to promote it on my website. Odd that I can't find it on your website filled with all this secret etsy algorithm knowledge that people need to pay for.
Because promoting it there would only hurt my store. I’m teaching people how to do what I do. The few people who have found my store have just copied it. People I teach here are not buyers or my niche and would also hurt my conversion rate! I have a seperate website, Etsy and socials to reach my audience for my POD store
This is one of the points that is disturbing but it can be explained. Before the change this year it seems that Etsy kept an initial promise to bring you traffic. I think that even specialists are now impacted by a very simple arbitrage: the conversion rate. In the normal web the rule is indeed in funnel: having a lot of visits gives results but here it is the opposite if you do not manage to convert quickly it will drop your quality score and will make certain listings invisible. I would indeed like among the good UA-camr advisers to see one who starts a store from scratch and proves all the recommendations in 2024 but there are none. Only one risked it but there were some biases and the results were far from being convincing moreover her community fell on her a little. At this stage in 2024 I only see one rule: the conversion rate. So you have to blindly arrive at having a bestseller to generate sufficient positive opinions and especially keep them, At this stage Etsy will start to find you interesting for its business but it will have to continue to replicate this challenge... if you succeed then you move into "winner takes all", the one who does not succeed becomes more and more invisible; only one way to remove all your work that did not work and start all over again to go and get that famous bestseller.. Remember one thing, Etsy is not doing so well and will systematically favor the listings that give it a commission.
thank you! its weird mine doesn't show up. For others it seems to. But they still dont mention location anymore in their handbook for ranking though I'm guessing it still plays a small role in shoppers habits

I do that too! Yup, it will count an a new item since you change all the keywords. :)
Does alt text on each listing photo, worth the time?
Also curious about this! Wondering if it’s worth my time to update all my listing photos.
I do at least my main photo now since that’s the one that would show up on search pages!

Hi C. U. Do you know if a product's poor conversion rate affects rankings for your entire store?
It shouldn’t hurt your entire store no! But if overall as a whole your whole store has a low conversion rate then likely. But I have some listings that sell like crazy and then others that just never get sales
Learning Etsy is not easy. Thx for the help!
glad this could help out! :)
Atributos, es lo mismo que etiquetas????

there are actually alot of things that determine your listings getting sales
How do you come up with video cover images ? 😂
Love it ❤ 👏

go in photoshop and export the photos with 2048px for width and in jpg, not png. I had the same issue
For shipping. Is anything over $6 just for single listing. Or the entire shop gets lower ranking.
Likely just a single listing! though I just 1 shipping profile across my whole store so I keep everything below $6
@@c.u.onlinecan you explain this more in detail? I know you use printify, and their shipping rates are atrocious. How do you get around that?
I have a seasonal product that goes on fire during the holidays. I think it's because of the image of the ornament ( It's not a "Christmasy" image ) Should I put that image on other things? And if so, wouldn't that look like a "this is a print-on-demand" product?

Do you know where I can find this information for Etsy 2025 algorithm?
The Etsy Seller Handbook! :) etsy.com/ca/seller-handbook/article/375461474487
helpful thank you
thanks for watching!
I still see the local seller tag.
seems other do too! must be just me ahha! but still the local boost is no longer mentioned in the Etsy handbook as a ranking boost
