  • This base opened in 1940, it was used by both the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces. During the war it was used primarily as a troop carrier airfield for airborne units and as a subsidiary training depot of the newly formed Royal Air Force Regiment. After the war it was placed on care and maintenance during 1947 when the RAF Regiment relocated to RAF Catterick.
( HAD PERMISSION ON THE DAY TO EXPLORE ) At my own risk. Nobody else's!

I've seen comments saying I deserve to be shot in the face for being here or I should have my neck broke. For trespassing ( EVEN though I had full permission to create a video and be on this land ) Most of these comments are from the F###ed up elder generation that just hate to see other people enjoying their life. You are a bunch of fools hiding away behind screens jealous of others ability to have a fantastic life. PEACE ✌️

Looks like 90% of that machinery is nothing but scrap metal now, they have been picked clean of of most of their parts. There were a few trailers and a couple of tractors that could have a little life left in them. Nice video , thanks for the tour👍

Commonwealth troops built an airfield in North East Thailand, 1963/66, when we left some of us flew back to Singapore while the rest along with the plant machines were shipped back. The broken down plant was tipped over board in the China sea, none of it was worth saving, but they had to take it all away from that airfield. By the way, it was abandoned as our PM Mr Wilson called it all off.

But do you know how or why did all this equipment end up at the airbase location. Did the owner obtain the equipment after they got ownership of the old base? Or was at least some of the equipment there when the base was acquired. Sounds like this could be a pretty good money maker. With the age of some of these pieces this business could be one of only a few places or possibly the only place to obtain parts for the older equipment.

Bill, I read all the comments and selected William Willmot's as the one ypuo would probably find the most applicable.
There were people who bought old WW2 airfields with concrete runways and hardstands just for their execellent space to park as much as possiblte right there.
Obviously the owner of this did so with the exprss purpose of storing machines until breaking them.?
It probably cost him little if he just offered to take it away from where it last broke down....
I am on the other side of the world so I can't help any further...most of the machinery loks 1950's style so not "war surplus"?
If you want to go down a rabbit hole have a look at the channel Marty T....a Kiwi who takes old "stuffed" "scrap" machinery and gets it going...to be used again.
