Best Lens For Street Photography? - CANON RF 50MM F1.8

- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- In this video I am going out for some Street Photography / City Photography. You will get a POV perspective to get a behind the scenes look. My goal is to exclusively shoot with the Canon RF 50mm F1.8 on my Canon EOS R Camera body to see how this 200 dollar lens performs and if this Focal length is as good as a lot of photographers say it is.
This video is not a review or a tutorial. I simply took this lens out to test it out for some city photography/ street photography.
Enjoy and have a good one.
Thanks for tuning in!

What’s your favorite shot? Mine is the one at 4:38 min of the nurse that walked by me. So stoked she walked right trough tat patch of light
None. Your’re scared to death to do street photography.
@Debabrata Panja appreciate that a bunch! Happy holidays!
This is such an interesting format for a photography video. I really appreciate your voice over.
I am glad you like it. Thank you from the kind feedback
This will be my next lens. Thanks for the good video bro.
Lovely vid. I really appreciate the running commentary explaining your thoughts while shooting. You're inspiring me to get off my butt and go shoot once the sky stops dumping on us.
I am stoked to hear that! I appreciate the feedback that really means a lot. Let me know how it goes
The 50mm is definitely a nifty one. Have recently added one to my bag the past few months.
That’s awesome to hear! Hope you are enjoying it
The boy got the prime 🙌 RF for life
My first ever RF lens. I found I was lagging a prime so I gave this one a shot and it did surprisingly well! 🙌🏻
Nice shots, man. Really nice edits. Enjoyed the commentary. I liked hearing about your thought process. I’m in the 804, too.
Thanks for the feedback. Stoked you like it. 🙏🏻
I really enjoyed the content! a hug from your friend I photograph here in Brazil. 🇧🇷
Awesome man glad you liked it
I really like the couch photo and nice work on that Camaro.
Appreciate the kind feedback! Thank you! 🙏🏻
Nice video. That part of Broad st has some great light in the mornings.
I agree. I love going through the streets where the taller buildings are located because those through some great shadows
And thanks! Glad you like it.
I started with 35mm and 85mm, and I still really those focal lengths, but I’m really trying to use nothing but 50 for this month. I love how tiny this lens it. And you can get some solid results from it.
I agree it’s definitely tiny! Really cool that you want to only shoot on it for a month. Let me know how it goes.
@@StevenSchulzPhoto2 years later. 50mm is my “if I can only bring one lens” lens 🤣
The city of my dream - no people on the streets xD
Yeah, I was definitely almost like an abandoned city lol
To me when I am in Freelance mode which to me is not on a job or anything but just walking around seeing what I can photograph. To me, it's a feeling I get when I see something that I photograph. Its hard to explain but I get a feeling when I see something that I know I can get shots from
That’s really awesome to hear! Thank you for your feedback 🙏🏻
Nice
Thank you
I really liked this. I’ve never appreciated pov quite like this. Lovely pictures. Did you shoot the non-pov video with the fifty as well?
Thank you glad you enjoyed it. The video was shot with the ef 16-35 f2.8
it's a great lens - standard on my R!
I agree it did a great job
Great video... you got some great shots. I am working out whether to grab this lens or the RF 36mm? My old EF 50mm 1.8 has been put through the mill.. smashed and crashed! And it is still working. Was the city dead due to COVID?... devastating and eerie.
Well I guess that’ll depend what you prefer when it comes to shooting. Do you like more environment to be displayed in your photos or do you prefer a tighter field of view. For me the 50 is the winner just because I can use it for more that just street photography. It’s a tough one though. I shot this on a Sunday morning so it was empty anyway but Covid probably had something to do with it too.
Great shots downtown! I’m always filming my cinematic shorts and reviews in the area, we should collab sometime on a future project.
Thank you. Yeah I am just getting into the videography part. Sounds like a good idea to me
Great edits!
Appreciate it. Thank you
I personally hate the 50mm and honestly don’t see the big hype about it besides the price point lol. At the end of the day it’s all preference. With my Sony I use the sigma 85mm 1.4 Art dgdn and once in awhile the 35mm1.4 Art dgdn. Great photos and great vid
I agree. It’s definitely a preference thing. Everyone is different and for me for example it always seems to change with time what focal length I prefer. Definitely prefer the look of the longer ones at the moment. Appreciate the feedback. 🙏🏻🤙🏻
Thank you
You're welcome
I like your video.
what a ghost town
It sure is during this time
Where is everybody? 😮
Very very nice! What camera profile do you use in LR?
I normally don’t mess with the profiles in LR. It’s probably the one that’s selected as standard. I do edit all my images in LR and Photoshop though.
@@StevenSchulzPhoto thanks. Anyways your video is very inspiring and makes me want to go out shooting ;)
@@wayanbarre that really means a ton! Thank you 🙏🏻
great shot!! by the way the town looks abandoned 😅
Thank you! It does doesn’t it? It’s Covid and also it was a Sunday morning that did it’s part. But yeah definitely not busy at the moment
Hello, thank you for this video. with my Canon RP, I therefore use the RF 50mm f1.8, but also the EF 4omm f2.8 stm lenses, and the EF 35 f2 is usm with the RF-EF adapter ring. I noticed that the image rendering is more natural and less contrasted with EF lenses than with RF 50mm, what do you think ???
Thank you for the feedback. I really appreciate that. I can’t say that I notice much of a difference in that regard between the ef and RF lenses. Do you shoot RAW or JPG?
@@StevenSchulzPhoto I shoot in Raw + Jpeg and I edit my images in DxO Photolab5
@@PHILGOODOK1 interesting that you notice that then. I might have to pay closer attention to that.
@@StevenSchulzPhoto I saw it mainly on the Portraits !
@@PHILGOODOK1 I see good point. I am going to take a look at that
I’ve never seen such a deserted city! Where were all the people?
A Sunday morning during Covid 🤷🏼♂️
@@StevenSchulzPhoto It must've been really bad there at that time. A year ago here you still saw folks out and about.
Yeah that part of town is usually not very busy in general so Covid definitely didn’t help
@@StevenSchulzPhoto You've kinda got me wanting to take my Thrifty Fifty out and do some street stuff.
Do it!
hey, what camera are you used for POV video?
I use as a chestmount with my iPhone. ;)
@@StevenSchulzPhoto nice
I heard canon's 50 f1.8 is pretty slow and noisy. Is it true?
So for me personally it has not been bad. I would say it is definitely not super fast but on the other hand definitely usable. The rf 50mm f1.2 is definitely advanced in that regard but therefore also comes with a price tag. 🤷🏼♂️
@@StevenSchulzPhoto yeah, too bulky and high-profile for street photography. And focus speed slows down due to its size and weight as well. Not a very good lens choice for street photography with RF mount. EF 50 f1.4 maybe a better choice.
@@leiwang1965 you are right. definitely a good alternative. I did have the ef 50mm f1.4 before and then decided to buy the RF mount. I definitely don’t regret making that choice. But that’s different for everybody.
Bro walking threw a ghost town
Kinda lol
where all the people go?
During Covid on a Sunday morning. I hope that explains it 🤷🏼♂️
Downtown Richmond looks depressing.
I 100% agree
It feels like a ghost town...
Sure is on a Sunday morning. Covid does it’s part of course
street photography without people is just feels empty
I agree. When the streets are empty the streets are empty… 🤷🏼♂️
The video is good. What is the name of the camera?.
Canon EOS R
The RF 50mm is the “Thrifty Fifty,” not nifty! The EF 50mm is the “Nifty Fifty.” C’mon man!
RF50mm f1.8 STM portlait test!
ua-cam.com/video/CZZtE3SouuQ/v-deo.html
2 копейки полученные за рекламу... Самое скучное фокусное расстояние 50 1.8 ... Шедевры в области портретов не получишь, в области природы и уличной фотографии тем более )
I used to think the same. A few years ago I challenged myself to shoot with only the 50. It really made me think, it taught me a few things, and now 50mm is my favorite focal length.
It’s definitely a challenge sometimes to stick to one focal length but a the same time it helps you not to overthink which focal length should I use…
That shit looks like the I am Legend set!! Noooobody there!!!
