  • A rather nervous Dame Joan Hammond, introducing fellow Australian soprano Joan Carden, at the opening concert in the new Melbourne Concert Hall (later re-named Hamer Hall) in 1982.

Another great Australian soprano introducing another great Australian soprano. Joan Hammond was also the teacher of another great Australian soprano Cheryl Barker, and had been the NSW women's gold champion in the 1930's before her career in London.

Dame Joan was a great artist with a great career and much loved by her public, but she was also rather shy , hence the slight nervousness at speaking on a public occasion like this. A very special lady.
