his perception stat is higher than Lucy's though, that's clearly her dump stat
But he got good agility I say. He quickly got the gun and shot those two fiends .

I love that after the Bridge shootout, there is no " I told you so" from Maximus despite him being 100% correct about the situation. He doesn't even seem annoyed or angry that Lucy did not believe him and just treats it like one more day in the wasteland, moving on to looting and then on where to go next.

When the guys don't appear in a reaction series it doesn't always necessarily mean they don't want to watch the show.
Sometimes it's simply because they have other things going on and they don't have the time to commit themselves to every single reaction.

I think you guys are underestimating how ruthless the Brotherhood is. Knight Titus literally told Maximus they would string him up of letting his knight die. Thaddeus first response when hearing Titus was dead was that they Brotherhood was going to kill him. Maximus said that he'd be fine if he brought back the head, but he doesn't know that for certain. Fear is what driving him. Sure some of it is stupidity, but mostly it's just fear.
Yeah, the Brotherhood could kill Maximus anyway for Titus's death once he gives them the head. The smart thing Maximus could've/should've done was abandon the Brotherhood, his mission, and live out the rest of his life elsewhere.
"Thaddeus first response when hearing Titus was dead was that they Brotherhood was going to kill him" To be fair, the way Maximus had presented it made it sound like he had actively murdered Titus for the suit rather than let him die, which to the Brotherhood would not be much better.
Have you heard the theory that the Brotherhood merged with the remnants of Caesar's Legion after the events of NewVegas. Not sure I believe it but it's interesting, the Brotherhood does seem to have taken on a more brutal strategy in the last 15 years.

Maximus' first impulse is always to lie to protect himself. Which really sucks for him because he's *so bad* at it.
(Though honestly, he's not that convincing when he's telling the truth, either.)
See, the armor have the name of Titus on it. He didn't have much a choice.
It shows Maximus Is a bad liar. It also shows he has a conscience. Remember the first episode he felt so guilty about wanting his friend hurt so he could be squire that he froze up and stammered.
Now he feels guilty about not protecting Knight Titus. Remember, he already said on the radio that his squire was killed before Thaddeus showed up. Odds are the clerics told Thaddeus why was anointed squire.
It's also a good sign he did not plant the razor blade in his friend's boot. He has too sensitive a conscience to keep up such a lie.
but like to be fair with what he could have told thaddius it wouldn't necessarily be a lie or at least it would matter if you are a good liar or not because all your doing is just not saying a specific thing.

It's a subtle thing, but in episode 2 Wilzig describes Vault 33 as a "meritocracy" implying anyone can rise up the ranks if they work hard, but then even without knowing what's really happening in 31 it's believed that they have advantages that 32 and 33 don't have. Meaning it's not true that you can really advance based on your own merit and are instead promoted based on the believed advantages you were raised with.
Hawthorne? Remember the Vault-tec "commercial" from the last episode? The Hawthornes were the scientists who were going to do the 5- year test in the vault.
Wow! I watched series, watched 3 other reactors to watch it, and only here they notice this and thanks to your comment it now makes a lot of sense.
This show deserves all the worship. I'm a non Fallout fan but obsessed with the lure because of this show. Wish I could get the game soon
Go for Fallout 76. Easy to pick up fast. I just started this week. It's fun.
The world building and lore is extremely deep..
Almost as deep as The Elder Scrolls franchise since both have been around for basically 20 years, the Iceberg Theory is very prevalent.
If you'd like to learn the lore more, I'd highly recommend watching some lore videos 'cause even if you play the games, there's almost no way you'd learn everything without spending A LOT of time playing the games and you'd still not know everything there is.
Obviously some things will be spoiled from the games so maybe don't if you actually intend on playing all of them, even the early games which are Isometric RPGs but I know a lot of people nowadays can't get into those much for a multitude of reasons so you could watch videos on Fallout 1 & 2's lore if you don't ever intend on playing those. 👍🏻
@@mybedissoft Fallout has been around 27 years, and Elder Scrolls has been around 30 years.
You could probably put a few thousand hours into the fallout series and still miss out on tons of lore.

I love all 3 main characters, but Maximus is definitely up there for me. He's pretty "grey", but when you think about the fact that he's basically a child soldier with little to no life experience, other than whatever he was trained to do at the brotherhood, got the the crap beat out of him there at the only life he's really known, had one whole friend and his first knight was kind of a prick who told him that they hang bad squires and leave them out to die. It makes sense why he started lying, probably out of fear for failing his first knight ever.
He definitely could have worded things better when talking to Thaddeus, but again. Lack of life experience/social skills (charisma check). But clearly how he dealt with the fiends means he's at least got some combat experience thanks to the brotherhood. Lucy froze in that moment and would have been shot and eaten, had he not taken the gun.
Again, I love all three characters and the show is amazing. I think Maximus gets a lot of flack, but I feel like his character makes sense due to him just being a product of his environment.
Well said. Maximus becomes one of the most interesting characters on repeat viewings. So many virtues; so many flaws.
i find his interactions with lucy really sweet. it's pretty much the only kindness he's ever known
I think Maximus couldn't tell the Brotherhood or his squire the truth because he lied to the Brotherhood back at Filly, because if he told them the truth they would've sent another knight to take the armour and punish him for failing to protect his knight.

Shady Sands is a location from fallout 1 and fallout 2. It was founded by the residents of Vault 15 and eventually grew into the New California Republic, the arguably the most powerful faction on the West Coast. Shady Sands' appearance in this episode was controversial for a number of reasons, most more relevant to next episode. The one relevant to this episode is that the show has it in the wrong place, showing it within the confines of Los Angeles, close to where the post war city "the boneyard" should be. In the games the city is located much further north, at the top of fallout 1's map and the bottom of fallout 2's. Presumably the simple explanation (without the location just straight up being retconned, which would kinda mess up Fallout 1 and 2's narrative) is that for some reason the city moved at some point further south for unknown reasons.
Yea, very easy to come up with a reason for why they had to move.
If there's one thing the wasteland likes, it's throwing curveballs that explode into knives that explode into cats.
They probably moved it further south so they could have better defenses with all the buildings everywhere
i mean mate it also just could be a different shady sands. This clearly aint the shady sands from the games cause that one least felt like it was much bigger the 30k people and the show does say it was the previous head base of the ncr so im thinking it was named after the original and the rest of the ncr moved back there

Can’t be. The sign explicitly refers to the show’s shady sands as the ncr “first capital”. Likewise in vault 4 the black board refer’s to the game and show’s shady sands as the same town since many of the early dates are dates related to the game’s shady sands. (Edit: If they were two separate cites they’re surely be some sort of distinction made on the black board)
It just makes more sense for the city to have moved location for unknown reasons rather than there being two separate cities existing within the ncr called “shady sands”
edit 2: you also said the game shady sands is much bigger than 30k when its canonically smaller. shady sands only has a pop of 3,000 during the events of fallout 2.
My guess is that, rather than the city moving, it just grew to be THAT large. I mean, 34,000 is a LOT of people.

When maximus says he’s not armed, every single reactor has the same dumb reaction. It’s easier to ambush people if they think you’re not armed. Hence why they BOTH claim not to be armed. And in the wasteland, ambushing people is going to be your best bet, unless you have the clear numbers.
The amount of people who’d have been shot is crazy 😅
There’s the way we want the world to be and the way it is. Lucy deals with the former, Maximus knows it’s the later
this right here!👆👆👆maximus does and says some dumb shit in this series but this wasn't it. he saw what was coming, he calmly and efficiently took care of business and once it was safe he immediately returned Lucy's weapon.
I had the same thought you guys did when mentioning how Maximus didn't have to make it sound so suspicious.
Maximus is even more sheltered than Lucy. There were tons of hints but the notion that he thinks that "the bombs fell" means that Shady Sands was the peak of humankind should have made that crystal clear. Despite this faulty understanding of the world, Maximus shows great ability in "rolling with the punches" and adapting to situations he wasn't trained to deal with - as opposed to Lucy's training at least coming through when it comes to approaching strangers.

I like this episode's commentary on voting in elections, the peer pressure, and the feeling like you have no choice "oh who am I kidding"
The number of the Vaults and when they were made is honestly a bit confusing. There is a grand total of 122 Vaults, and Vault Tec tried to market having enough for the whole country, but that was never going to happen. When the first game came out it was fairly consistent, with Vault 13 being near Vault 12 and 15 (fun fact: the residents of Vault 15 founded Shady Sands and the NCR). Fallout 2 expanded the map and the number of Vaults to be seen, but tried to keep consistency. We see Vault 8 in Fallout 2, so to see Vault 4 in the show is not entirely implausible. Then we get Fallout 3 and still having some form of consistency with Vaults such as: 101, 106, 108, and a few outliers like 87 and 92. Then Fallout 4 makes placement of the Vaults completely random with 111, 114, 75, 81 and 95. We then get Vault 76 in West Virginia and apparently that is now one of the first Vaults to open up.
I just can't figure Maximus out. Sometimes he seems smart and capable. Like how he answered the cleric, shooting the bearwolf, fighting the armor thieves and the fiends. Then other times he acts so stupid and naive, like with Thadeous. Lucy and the Goul, i kind of know who and what they are. I just don't know what to expect from Maximus.
Loved your reaction as always. You should watch society of the snow. It's a great movie and I would love to hear what you have to say about that one. If you do watch it I recommend the original language with subtitles, the acting was amazing

The character of Maximus has an Intelligence of 4, so he may not make the smartest choices.
25:00 Enclave breeds perfection, haven't you seen they're breeding perfect dog, and burning the rest, and that's why he took and imperfect dog (not the right weight and size) into his care? That's why when found out, they signaled the alarm. Why do you think you were presented with all the info in a visual form instead of exposition with words? Enclave is an isolationist fascist-like purity and science-first oriented group/faction that thinks they are the real government. And they said he escaped the enclave when showing Brotherhood announcing him as a target, one of the members of brotherhood even says "wait, Enclave is real?". You gotta watch what is shown on screen.
So this is a spoiler for the game series but not much of one for the show....
Shady Sands is a town that was built above one of the Vaults (prior to the first Fallout game... you visit it during that game and again in the 2nd one)...
So what Maximus is saying about Reclamation Day already happening and not working is kind of true... from a certain point of view... and the fact that Shady Sands is a crater now made me sad because i remember it from Fallout 2.
So when Maximus is talking about the bombs falling... he's not talking about the nukes from Episode 1.... they fell AGAIN... on Shady Sands. "The bombs fell when I was a kid... if it makes you feel any better, it didn't work out."
But seriously.... ANOTHER "nuked the fridge" plot armor???? Dammit Indiana Jones!!!

Based on what’s revealed next episode as well as how they leave this Vault, the Hawthorne Lab trap isn’t directly physically connected to the Vault
so far from my small fallout friend group they like the world building they did but some of the decisions the characters make are VERY dumb over all good show but the visuals carry hard.
Funny, I just noticed how close fiend and friend are to each other...
4 was advertised by Coop in the last episode, with a family of scientists saying it'll be a place governed by scientists. And family's name was... Hawthornes.
That is the next episode.

Makes you think that Overseer Hank knew what was happening in vault 32 but did nothing to assist. Max is an idiot savant. I'd love to play Fallout 3 but it won't play on modern computers because of the graphics card.
Fallout 3 will play on modern systems. I know someone playing on an Intel 13th gen, Nvidia RTX 4070 ti.
With Maximus...I think it's important to look at him as a Fallout character. He's got LOW intelligence and LOW charisma. He says dumb things.
Maximus always picks the stupid dialogue option LOL. He always makes dumb choices and says dumb things that put him in bad situations.
