A lot of great advice here. You have to prioritize what you are going to do with your money. Being debt free is great. We still have a house payment but have no other debt. We save up for travel. There is nothing worse than taking a big expensive trip and then coming home and having to figure out how you are going to pay for it. We have never purchased a new car in our lives - only used. We don't have to have the latest phones, fashions, technology - we just keep using what we have and save money wherever we can to keep debt away. It will be a glorious day when the house is paid off too. Thanks for the reminders!
Sounds like you guys are doing well and have it figured out. We foolishly bought 2 new cars and learned the hard way. Now we buy good used cars with cash and drive them until they die. Car payments are awful. We have learned through the school of hard knocks to now be very thrifty.
Some great ideas here, both about saving and investing early and living within your means. Yes, we're totally debt free and it makes retirement much easier. We also pay our CC off in full at the end of the cycle. Now we have enough left over for our travel vices! 😁😁
So much comes from setting up a plan...a plan for both saving and spending. I remember someone telling me that if you have a monthly payment, such as a car loan, once the loan is paid off, still act as if you still have the loan, but now take that money and put it in savings. Great way to save for the unexpected. For the first ten years of my teaching career, money management and consumer education was a mandatory class for graduation...but it is one thing to learn about it and another to actually put it into practice.

As a child we had a saving scheme at school. Weekly banking. It showed that even 50c a week mounted up in a year to a lovely amount. Te 50c was reward for the chores one did all week. Two lessons here learnt here. Something else my parents instilled in us was: Buy what one can afford. A good topic - Mostly necessary for the youth though some have reached pension stage without having attained that knowledge. Budgeting seems a dirty word these days. Patience is short supply. Hey 👋 Keith & Terri! Debt seems to mean nothing to the irresponsible. Someone else will pay it off. Kick the can down the road. When college loans are “forgiven”, that debt is transferred to us all. Being frugal is a mindset, a way of life for responsible folks who know what it means to work hard and save. But in retirement, we want to live out our remaining years to the fullest. When our buying power is cut in half by our elected leaders, that is worrisome. Good talk!! Time to refill my coffee cup. Have a great day!

Great ideas! We've never had a new car and have only financed one used one but sold it after a year or so when I became a stay at home Mom. This past week I had an unexpected possible expense come up...dental work and no dental insurance. My dentist retired last year and the one who took over is more aggressive? and made out a plan of care. When I checked out I was handed the plan with the cost and I literally thought I would have a heart attack. It was for over $4000 (for work on 3 teeth)! Out of panic I asked if they still had the Care Credit program. I had used it years ago where payments are for 6 months at no interest. The office clerk applied for me but apparently there was a glitch so I had to call CS when I got home. It turns out she had sent it through twice and I have 2 accounts now and they are credit cards. I never knew that part. Once I came to my senses I got a 2nd opinion from another dentist and thankfully his plan is better and more affordable and I won't be using those credit cards either. Hopefully my credit won't be hurt too much just by me getting them. 🤞
Wise decision to get second opinion! That happened to me once at a dentist as well. It never hurts to get another opinion before spending that kind of money. Hope your Sunday is wonderful 😊
